This singer is Floor Jansen, the third and current singer . She flew in to Denver (US) 2012 to save the tour of Nightwish when singer no2 went sick . Here she is not a member of the band yet . 10 months with the band. The rest is history ;-) . Greetings from nwAse Sweden

Also the first two singers had been very good (Tarja) or at least good (Anette) but Floor is the perfect fit for Nightwish. She also is the most versatile singer I have ever heard; she can sing all from opera (listen to her singing "o mio babbino caro" by Puccini) to death metal growls (listen to "Disdain" from her former Band ReVamp) and all between. In an interview Tuomas said "she is now at home" and Floor said "they all are like brothers for me". You can feel this when they are on stage.

The beautiful thing is, that Floor and the band somehow saved each other mutually. The band lost Annette in the middle of the US leg of the tour and Floor had been on a sabbatical, for around a year or so, due to burnout. She came back to working, when that call came.

Both Floor and Troy were given permanent position in the band before Wacken 2013 show but the official public announcement was only later the same year for marketing reasons.

Yes, Floor is the third and current singer for Nightwish. Few years back, Tuomas was quoted saying she's also wery probably the last singer for NW, as he wouldn't like to go through the searching for yet another singer once more... so we all hope they can stick together! Floor on stage is excellent. Tarja was great too, but Floor just fits the band perfectly, and her intraction with the crowd is just black (or white??) magic...

Certainly not Anette Olzon (2007-2012) as she was a poppy sounding singer and struggled to even perform songs from the two albums written during her tenure. And very few written for Tarja Turunen (1996-2005). This is Floor Jansen (2012- present) who can sing anything written for the previous two and improves virtually all of them as she has such versatility, range, diction and empathy.

Because in your world sun rises and sets on Floor. For example in this reaction you didn't leave your negative comments about Tarja and Anette out because you felt important to let people know your negative opinion about them. You couldn't compliment only Floor without criticizing others and you say you respect Nightwish? You constantly belittle the band in favor to Floor. Nightwish is bigger than your little opinion about them, every member should be respected for what they bring or did bring to the band but you focus on "criticizing" them. When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on KZbin. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered KZbin in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6). She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉. Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg, where she graduated in 2003. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken (pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people (one of the largest heavy metal festivals in the world and one of the largest open-air festivals in Germany). Enjoyed your reaction. As other's have said this is their third singer, Floor Jansen, the most versatile powerful singer of our time. I love Nightwish with both Tarja and Floor and some songs I like Tarja's performance better, some I like Floor's better and others I like them equally. For me, Floor's version is far and away the best. It just is more powerful and epic especially the changes to the end of the song that Floor added including the "note". Floor had been with the band about 10 months at this point. She had joined Nightwish in the middle of their North American leg of the Imaginaerum tour after the band had parted ways with their second singer. The band had been talking to Floo about being a temporary singer during the South American leg of the tour when their second singer couldn't tour because of her pregnancy. Floor joined them in Seattle 48 hours after getting the call and learned the setlist in that time frame During the rehearsals after that show Floor starting freestyling at the end of Ghost Love Score and came up with the ending you saw. The band loved it and said we need to do it this way from now on. I don't know how you could watch this, or other performances by Floor, and not believe in magic. You can literally watch the world change around her when she comes on stage, or watch people's attention and imagination be captured and redirected in an instant. The whole metal goddess/Valkyrie bit is almost a meme at this point, but the truth is, these are the descriptions that come naturally when you witness something like this. I know that for me, the first time I saw Floor perform all I could think was something like: "This is what it looks like when God moves in the world." And you can translate "God" however you want, its kind of irrelevant. Years later, that thought never went away, no matter how many times I see it.

Your "mistake" was correct because it allows you to compare both singers. I largely ignore the second singer. Tarja was fired in 2005 due to artistic and personal differences. Floor is officially just the temporary helper here. A long-term collaboration was already planned within the band. The new ending is from Floor. Floor has basic training in classical singing and typically sings a mix of chest and head voice. Tarja only used her head voice on Nightwish. Even as a 15 year old, Floor's stage presence was extraordinary. Floor thrives on the audience and the bigger it is, the better she is. There are two versions of Phantom of the Opera. Nightwish is one the few bands that sound even better live that on an album. Especially with Floor because she's such a great performer in addition to being an incredible singer.

Thank you for your reaction! When Floor joined Nightwish she allready had a lot of experience as she started singing in a band (After Forever) when she was 16 in 1996. Tarja was young when Tuomas, Emppu and her formed Nightwish, also in 1996. In this time more female lead singers in symphonic metal bands were singing in a operatic style. In the second half of the 2000's some changed to a more contemporary style, like Within Temptation and Nightwish with singer Anette. Floor could sing anything allready. She learned to sing in a classical way to reach the really high notes. But she can also growl, scream, sing pop songs and even rap. One of her great talents is the way she expresses emotions using her voice, face and body language. Yet she is a humble person. When Nightwish called her to step in for Anette in the middle of a tour, she couldn't believe this was happening. She was recovering from a burn-out and this was a dream coming true for her. Nightwish was one of the greatest symphonic metal bands in the world. Before that moment she only had been part of their supporting act. That's how they knew eachother. Floor and Tarja are close friends. When Nightwish asked Floor if she wanted to be their regular lead singer, she first talked with Tarja about it. Anette had to compete with a lot of other singers to become the lead singer of Nightwish because they had enough time to make a choice. She joined in 2007. During the tour in 2012 she got sick and there was a lot of tension between her and the rest of the band. She left Nightwish and they reached out to Floor Jansen. There is another difference between Floor and Tarja and Anette. Tarja was very young, also busy with classical training and singing besides working with Nightwish. She found it stressful to sing in front of a huge audience, because of her perfectionism and high sensitivity. A Nightwish tour is a lot of hard work because they want to reach fans all over the world to perform. So they perform a lot, before smaller venues up to stadions and huge festival crowds. Anette was better in the studio, also had difficulty's to perform as many times as Nightwish does. Tuomas and Emppu both love to be on the stage, sharing music with their fans. So they do get fysically exhausted but also get a lot of positive energy when they are touring. In Floor they found someone else who loves to perform on the stage as much as they do. She is a kind, gentle woman who changes in this Valkyrie Goddes ones she enters the stage. A different person. There are a few video's where you can learn more about Floor Jansen. She's quite special. I don't know much about Anette but Tarja has evolved as a singer as well and is just a very special person with an extraordinary voice. Both Floor and Tarja like to challenge themselves to get better as a singer. Tarja has been active until today as a solo singer and is now also working together with Marko Hietala, the bassplayer who left Nightwish in 2021. This band and the amazing Floor Jansen are one of the best live bands in the world. The 2nd vocalist is the one you heard rumors about. Annette was more of a rock/pop vocalist and it change the live sound of Nightwish. Floor brought them back to the top as a live band. Symphonic metal is much more powerful in a live setting. this one is suggested the most as for the live versions this one has the best sound quality and this song itself is quite good to portray Floor Jansen's vocal range. her range is a lot bigger then just this though this one is simply a very good start. all 3 singers are amazing but floor jansen is an astoundingly good singer. and she was the only choice after having 2 very different (and amazing) singers. this song alone showed she could do the things both tarja and annette were strong in and switch between them in an instant without ANY difficulties. in fact i never have seen her strain herself to do any singing. and she has done some crazy stuff. the entire band is incredible. but as of now. it might not survive without tuomas and Floor. as both of them are not just incredible artists like all of them. they are both Virtuoso. without Tuomas i doubt we can get songs like he wrote. and i have no clue who could fit the shoes of Floor, as with every new singer they will need someone who can do what the previous ones did as this is the standard floor set for the band. all of the artists that left. are incredible and all of them have their own careers. apart from Jukka that is he simply went on a hiatus but if he decides to return in the music scene there will be no band dumb enough to want a drummer of his tier. and while a bunch have been replaced they will be missed by many. but their replacements are no slouches and fill the slots very well.

Well I guess they all talked you into the live version. Don’t get me wrong I love it, it’s exceptional and a must see. I just get tired of some Floor Fans bullying reactors. That said, you really can’t go wrong with any singer.

Nightwish is that rare band that performs live better than in the studio. Not that their studio recordings are not good. It’s just that they really come alive on stage. Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix I’d rather hear recordings. Nightwish is the opposite.

Love Tarja and Floor. So different, when I hear Tarja I think yes, this I how the song was meant to sound. Like a baseline /original. But everything in life evolves and when I hear Floor sing 'Tarjas' songs, most times I prefer it with Floor. But that doesn't mean I like the album version less. It is just different. Anette, I can't get used to the sound she brings, but the written of that era was amazing ❤

The song Stargazers though technically not opera, Floor sings the entire song in head voice. ( opera sound)

I think Floor has made this song better than the earlier versions, but I still prefer Tarja on some others (Sleeping Sun, Phantom of the Opera, Dead Boy's Poem). They are both awesome.
