Whisky.com reviews the Nikka Yoichi Single Malt. Nikka Yoichi matured in three types of casks until its completion. The single malt from Yoichi always has a smoky basic character. The distillery still adheres to the old distilling methods and fires its stills with charcoal.

Beautiful description Horst! Yoichi is such a special single malt. It's a favourite! In Vancouver, Canada Yoichi is about $130.00. It's worth it! Cheers! 🙂

I chose this over the miyagikyo and taketsuru and I think I made the right choice! A true highland representation with Japanese balance.

I was fortunate to purchase a bottle of this around the time of this review; excellent all around, although a little pricey at $90.00 US. Should have bought more then, went back today and the price for this is now at $190.00 - again, nice whisky, but not at this price point. Sometimes the reviews have a negative effect!

Hey Horst man. Serious question, when you “swish” around the whisky inside your mouth, does that cause tooth decay? I want to do the same but worry I’ll get cavities. Also, when I sniff my whisky I feel like my nose is burning. How do you sniff the glass so hard and not get irritated nostrils?

I can't speak for him, obviously, but I think it's safe to guess that it's not worse than anything else. I have a number of dental professionals in the family and they say the issue is not what we put in our mouths, but how long it sticks around. Unflossed teeth, not brushing or drinking water after a sugary beverage...etc. for example, if you drink coffee everyday with sugar, chances are you drink it and then that's it. Sugar will coat your teeth and slowly wreak havok. Rinsing with water after helps...but a brush is the only great solution. Whisky and other spirits are not so bad. I'm sure the alcohol will kill bacteria as well! I can't say for sure, of course, but a little bit of swishing and enjoyment followed up by a glass of water after will not be so bad. If you have a sugary diet in general, the concern is more about the whole, rather than a single instance of whisky swishing, if that makes sense.

And when I sniff the glass, i start farther away and slowly get my nose in there. It helps. Take your time. Enjoy it. Over time my nose and tastebuds have become more numb to the burn. When i moved to 43-50% stuff the 40% stuff felt tame like water. One's body should get used to it over time, barring sensativities.

The more experienced you become with drinking whiskey, the more the burning in your nose will dissipate over time. The time this takes depends on how long your body may take to get used to it, how often you drink, how long you make a drink last, etc. I do not have much of a burning sensation from smelling whiskey and such. It also depends on the level of alcohol in the whiskey. If you try a proper cask strength whiskey and you've never had proper cask strength, it will burn your nose much more than a normal whiskey until you become acclimated to it. My first cask strength whiskey was a balcones single malt single barrel select from a total wine. It was 64.7% and aged in New American oak, and it became my #1 favorite whiskey so far. After having that, I have found any whiskey below a certian % can be bit boring in terms of palate and watery (as in watery feel/texture). It was quite a sudden shift for me, and smelling/tasting any whiskey became much easier after that.

I have a bottle of Yoichi Japanese whisky...its very nice indeed...nice bit of smoke and lots of fruits in flavour but the price for this whisky has risen substantially over the last three years...making it virtually out of reach for lots of whisky fans.😑

"Normal" pricing left the building years ago, my brother. As unfortunate as it may be, elevated prices are now the new normal.
