4 things no one tells you about going vegan - open and honest from my experience. I get a little emotional on tips 3 and 4, just FYI! 1. Dealing with gas and bloating on a vegan diet. Tips from my own experience, as well as from Mic the Vegan and Dr. Gregor. 2. How easy it is to switch to a plant based diet! A whole foods plant based diet can be simple, even when traveling if you keep it simple and try to be prepared. 3. I never realized how much the animals would change my life! I went vegan for my health, I've stayed vegan for the animals. 4. If you're looking for a sense of purpose, need a confidence boost, new hobby or passion project, go vegan! I'm telling you, it's majorly increased my self esteem and my sense of purpose because I make informed choices every single day that I can feel good about it. Hope you enjoy this video and let me know if you've had similar experiences :)

Do the best you can and if you mess up, just keep on trying. When you succeed and show the people you live with that you can be a healthy vegan, you might inspire some of them. Maybe you can cook some delicious plant foods that they will enjoy. Unless you try, you won't know. Good luck.

Vegan is not an ISM. That's problem #1. Diet is NOT an identity and it sure as hell isn't a "philosophy". I stopped eating meat for several years in my 20s and never had any meat cravings but I looked/felt weak and emaciated. I started lifting weights and my system immediately demanded meat. I quickly realized that Lifestyle was far more important for health and virility, and that nutrition was the servant of lifestyle. I do credit not eating meat with expanding my knowledge base and viewpoint about food and nutrition as a whole. I eat more or less the way Native Americans and our ancestors ate. This hyper sensitivity to "suffering or pain" that virtually all of you feel s simply your need for some sense of morality. It doesn't make you any better or worse than anyone else. Death is only a part of Life. And unless your ancestors have been meat free for centuries or millenia you should think very deeply about the long term affects. Indians have virtually no muscles for a reason. And finally, PLANTS ARE EVERY BIT AS ALIVE AND AWARE AS ANIMALS. Read the book "The Secret Life of Plants" if you don't believe me. Plants FEEL every bit as much as any animal.

cavaleer plants DONT have an immune system. also, being vegan has made me stronger. i work out everyday and yes it was hard in the beginning but it wasn’t because i was fucking vegan it was because i hadn’t ever worked out before. “my body needed meat” fuck off, clearly you were never so great at discarding meat as you said you were. no one “needs meat” because it isn’t humane to kill and consume an animal. if you can live on plants with a massive amount of fibre, protein and vitamins, why kill animals to get less of what you need. you’re bullshitting because you screwed up. realise that and then fuck off because no one wants to hear your inaccurate “philosophy”.

When I became vegan I didn't knew that afterwards I would be able to perceive the real smell of meat at the supermarket. A few months after becoming a vegan I went grocery shopping and it smelled like it was rotting, no one else seemed to notice. Milk also smells awful to me. You are NOT going strong eating sheep food. As a matter of fact you would shrivel up and die eating rabbit food if you didn't take all those supplements and nutrients required to make up for for the lack of nutrients missing from eating an improper plant based diet. Not to mention the bloating, farting, mental cloudiness, skin rashes, arthritis, fatigue, and everything else that goes with eating a plant based diet. That and the mental challenges required to chase after every batch of chemicals you can find that mimic meat. Fake meat, green meat, beyond meat, I can't believe it's not meat, and all the other fake meat foods. I'll bet you know them all because you are forced to eat them because your body craves meat.

I have been vegan for a week and a day, and I’m honestly surprised over how easy it is !! I can literally eat everything I ate beforehand, just with modifications to make it vegan. I find myself cooking nearly everyday, where I never cooked before and i enjoy it and have been able to spend more time with my mom bc we can do it together. I did it for health reasons, but hearing you talk about the animal cruelty just establishes my views of staying vegan. I’m excited to keep going on my journey and trying new recipes!

Highway Huntress lmao ur opinion doesn’t matter, scientific consensus is that,ya a well planned vegan diet is healthy. If you’re eating all nutrients your body won’t struggle much to absorb nutrients, I and most other vegans overshoot most of their daily targets by a lot, it’s rlly not that hard

Highway Huntress most Americans are definitely deficient in something, only 3 percent of the population gets enough fiber and 2% get enough potassium. It’s not j vegans. I don’t think it’s easier to get ur nutrients on a vegan diet but definitely not harder. The problem is most people aren’t used to it and don’t know how to do it. It rlly doesn’t suck you couldn’t stay vegan but I hope that even if you don’t go back you at least cut down on animal products:)

I went plant-based almost 3yrs ago when I learned the health implications from eating animals, but it wasn't until my first local Vegfest that I was struck by the truth of a mother cow having her baby stolen from her and that milk being exploited for human consumption. I had learned about that earlier but what struck me so hard was that i was breastfeeding my 2month old in the room during that lecture. As a mother, I could not imagine having my babies ripped away from me. I cry whenever I think about it, and that moment completely sealed the deal on vegamism for me.

Yes that is exactly why I went vegetarian and now vegan. Because I could not answer the question "why do I eat a cow and not a dog?". I also used to eat horse meat, as it was normal in switzerland. Yet all animals are the same and none should be more "important" than others. Never going back to eating meat.

Morality Mentality haha oh yes, the "bacon" yellers :D Well I grew up in a small village in central Switzerland. And there were quite a few horse butchers around there. Maybe it was more a regional thing. And true, I never saw it on a menu. Yet at the butchers to buy for at home.

In order for humans to get milk from cows, unfortunately the newborns are taken away immediately after birth. I think it’s really great that you’re taking this step in becoming vegetarian, and I understand that it’s difficult to give up cheese, butter, and other dairy products. Many people in the world won’t even consider it. It’s great that someone as young as you is acting out of the love in your heart to protest animal abuse through your diet.

Now I have these images in my head and I think it’s actually good because I am such a visual learner and whenever I see an animal product now, I’ll remember those pigs eyes and those cows hip bones and I will never waiver. I refuse to go back now. There is nothing in the world that could make me stop being vegan, no amount of bloating or fiber overdoses, nothing. Vegans think that they have no impact. But agriculture uses water, fertilizer, pesticides, weed killer and petroleum. Fuel to till and harvest and take the goods to market. You could actually argue that the horrible state of our planet is DIRECTLY due to agriculture, not to eating meat. Before agriculture, we did not eat grains, but instead ate roots, berries, fish, nuts, meat, and anything else we could hunt and gather. And our population held at a low level in balance with nature. But thanks to agriculture and the planting of grains, our population exploded. Now we are out of balance with nature, eating a diet we did not evolve to eat, and this huge population (made solely possible by agriculture) is what is putting the strain on all of the planets resources. So there you go, you vegans and your agriculture is what is bringing forth the destruction of the planet. And keep in mind, that the meat grown in factory farms is fed grains, a crisis again created by the rise of agriculture. So much for harvesting plants not having an impact.
@twowheelsdown2002
@twowheelsdown2002 6 жыл бұрын
The point is that everything we do has an impact. And nature has a natural balance. The man made growing of agriculture and our shift from a hunter gatherer species has put an entirely different load on this planet. We no longer are in balance with nature, because we can grow more food, which allows for more reproduction. But even when we can feed that added increase of population, it turns out that there is more then just the food resources that come into play. More people uses more of every resource, while also contributing to pollution. And by driving up the population so high because of large scale agriculture, we set ourselves up for a huge fall if just one thing goes wrong in this artificial system. It could then massively collapse. (take the death of bees for example) And we could be vulnerable to a massive die off of the species. In the past, we kept in balance because by eating meat and gathering natural grown species of plants, roots, and berries, we were forced to sustain a lower population. We simply could not massively spike the population and overburden the planet. Now we are smart enough to overburden it, and not smart enough to not.

I myself eat lots of vegetables. But I also eat grass fed meat, butter, and locally raised eggs. I base my diet on health and not a moral agenda, which is what most vegans are about. So whereas, I can be open minded about both the benefits and harms of various foods, I find that most vegans are not in the least. Because they want to drive a moral agenda, they will skew and cherry pick every bit of data, or study that exists. Because they could never, ever, ever admit that ANY animal product could actually be beneficial to health. Even though they can't get B-12 naturally. Or no matter how much evidence that cod liver oil is good.

Nice video. A couple of things: 1.When eating legumes, it's really important to prepare them thoroughly. Most restaurants and take out places do not, because its very time consuming and therefore expensive for that business. Those ones can really cause bloating if they are not prepared well. 2. I made the mistake of trying to let my friends and family know how much better you feel and how it improves your health eating a whole food plant based diet. I realized that unless somebody REALLY wants to improve their health, (usually due to some medical crisis) then they won't be too interested in changing to a plant based diet. For me it's been life changing. I stopped eating meat, fish and dairy ovenight after 60 years. I haven't missed it for one second. But it really helps if you have someone to share the journey with you.

I enjoyed your video here. I am new (in my first month) Going thru some of the symptoms you mentioned but nothing that is awful. One thing I can attest to is the empowerment I now feel when I walk in to the kitchen and prepare something to eat. I made the decision after watching Game Changers. That really solidified my choice to go vegan and put a stop to the guilt and shame I felt when I would eat meat at a meal. I have to say even leading up to my choice to be plant based walking thru the butcher shop or meat department in stores and seeing the walls and cases filled with dead animals I felt that I needed to make a shift in my eating lifestyle. I felt when I placed the cooked meat in my mouth I was then eating the dark stress and fear adrenaline that the animal had when being led to slaughter. Thanks again. Congratulations for your choice as a young woman. You are teaching many.

The worst thing about being vegan, for me is when I had to give up being vegan. One year ago I had a very traumatic surgery and recovery, and then low thyroid problems, hormonal unbalance... my whole body changed. I couldn't have gluten, soy, almonds, cruciferous veggies or leafy greens! I kept vegan for a whole year, but I was just getting worse, weaker, fatter, with allergies, leaky gut, cronic fatigue, pains, aches, depression, 9 pills a day... I tried switiching foods, chaning habits, different combinations... nothing worked. Until I started eating like fitness "normal" people do: low carb, high animal protein. It was really gross to start with, I cried while chopping meat, but when after 2 days I felt normal for the first time in a whole year, I knew that that was the right thing for me. After a week I'm able to run again, lift weights, and see the real me in the mirror instead of that fat, weak & sick lady. Sometimes you have to put your own health before ideology: life changes, bodies change and you have to adapt to survive. For those vegans who are thriving with the diet, you are so lucky, but don't judge every meat eater, some of us just do not have a choice.

I have a friend who is vegan and got surgery and it was necessary for her to intake more iron and all the pills and supplements weren't cutting it. The easiest and fastest way she could get the iron she needed to recover was from consuming red meat, which is her LEAST favorite meat to eat. She ins't happy about going back, but you're absolutely right in that you have to listen to your body and put your health first before you ideology. I am glad you feel better, and hope you found peace in your diet changes.

I feel you. I've started eating vegan 4 years ago coming from an eating disorder, before that I had been a vegetarian for about 2-3 years. During the time of eating vegan I have developed a B12 deficiency TWICE and a few times, because I didn't have a supplement at hand, I had to eat meat. When I bought the meat in the store I started crying, I felt so ashamed but it helped. After getting the supplement I didn't continue eating meat. All in all I love veganism, but I do have a serious issue with the bloating. It feels so uncomfortable and I want to find a solution so veganism can work for me. My problem is that I simply don't like eating large quantities of food... Sometimes I do, but not for every meal. I think I'll give green juices a try. Of course, what you describe is different from what I'm going through, I just want to tell you: I don't judge you, I'm happy you're healthy, and you're not alone. There are others struggling with veganism as well🙈

V GM when your body is in recovery mode and in a catabolic process, vegan is not the way. I think this is where people get it wrong. Vegan food is hard on your digestion, everything raw is not always good for you because you increase your parasite load. Cooking food is good for you too. People with digestive disorders need to be cautious on how the include that much fibre in a vegan diet. Trim down on meat but you don't have to be full vegan. We only had meat over weekends but the week we ate vegetarian. It was far better. I don't do dairy because I am lactose intolerant but it's the best thing, except for cheese. When I suffered with depression and anxiety, my psychiatrist told me I had very low levels of hormones and hence the condition. I suffered panic attacks for 10 years. I thought I could manage it as I am a psychologist. He said I need to have cheese ham and pumpkin seeds as they are the only things in nature that have seratonin. I guess this is why ham and cheese sandwiches are so popular around the world. My body ate its own muscle and I was spiraling down, I had to increase superfoods and protein from meat was the only thing that stabilized me. Trust me I am the biggest advocate for a vegetarian diet however when I went through that, I learned otherwise. I think we need to learn that we can't live a life of all or nothing. Good luck on your recovery. Be strong, get rest

almost all of your symptoms sound to me like you had SIBO and likely still have it. Having thyroid issues and surgery may have caused it actually. The reason you feel better eating a low carb meat heavy diet isn't because it's good for you, it's because you eliminated fodmaps out of your diet without even thinking about it. Fodmaps are fermentable carbs and a lot of the foods you mentioned that didn't work for you are high in fodmaps. If you continue eating low carb and avoiding these foods you may keep your symptoms down but it won't be good for long term health. Instead you should go to a naturopath and get a SIBO breath test as well as a parasite and ova test. The breath test costs around $100 in Canada, the parasite and ova test is free if your in Canada. 85% of people that have any IBS like symptoms have SIBO and even 10% of people with no apparent symptoms also have it so it's really common. I am going through a similar situation but instead of going to meat I found just avoiding fodmaps dealt with the symptoms. It is harder to find low fodmap vegan protein sources though but tofu, tempeh, and edamame are ok. All other soy products are higher fodmap so even soy milk, and pretty much all beans. Eating low fodmap is only a temporary thing though. SIBO is fully treatable and I would suggest making sure you treat it otherwise you'll always have some issues. You take 2 weeks of antibiotics or you can alternatively go 4 to 6 weeks of herbal antibiotics and then eat low fodmap for a month and a half. This will work in most people however a lot of people do relapse, there are steps to take to prevent relapse which any good naturopath would know about. Unfortunately doctors have no clue when it comes to this as I spent 2 years going to doctors and they ran all kinds of tests before I gave up and went to a naturopath who figured out my issues right away and did the proper tests. If you want to test if I'm correct without having to take the tests just try a higher carb vegan low fodmap diet for a few months and see how you feel. If you still feel fine then I'm right and you almost certainly have SIBO. I debated eating meat again too but decided to just eat tempeh and edamame every single day instead and I'm glad I went that route because I felt way better, all my digestive issues subsided and I didn't have to resort to eating dead animals. Remember, a vegan diet doesn't cause digestive issues like SIBO but it can make an issue like that feel worse simply because most vegan diets contain a lot of fodmaps but there are a few vegan low fodmap youtubers that you could check out for recipe ideas Anyway, I hope this may help your situation. I wish someone had told me about this year's ago. I could have saved a few years of suffering. It wasn't till I watched a KZbinr named gojiman that I even figured what may be going on as he went through a similar situation and he has a lot of good info on his channel about gut health you should check out.

Carnivore Life No, it’s not malnutrition. It’s helping nature. Ducks, cows, pigs, etc, are tortured and killed every day to give us food. And don’t even give me the whole food chain talk. I get the food chain, but we don’t need to torture and kill them so rudely. If we do eat meat, us vegans insist that the animal was dead by nature, not killed for the meat. That they died naturally, like they should, and not killed early. Not fattened and then stripped of meat. Force fed by a metal tube, to fill their liver so we can eat more. It’s horrifying. Also, the milk from the goats and cows are supposed to go to babies to make them strong and healthy. I’m not trying to force by vegan beliefs on you, but you are trying to force eating meat on us, so please, consider going vegan or vegetarian.

I was vegetarian on the past 22 years and couldn't make the move to vegan because I'm also celiac and it was very hard to adapt to both diet. As a celiac my gut reacted to too many foods. Maybe you could make a video about celiacs becoming vegan and their diets. In the end I think plant based diet is very helpfull to celiacs because it is full of anti-oxidants that fights inflammations on the gut/intestinal tract. I feel great after this transition.

In 3 weeks I lost 20lbs ... in 30 days I lost another 10lbs and off all my drugs. I have more energy and now back to exercising. I can hardly believe it 15 years of treatment by a number of doctors that said nothing about removing the animal product from my diet. The bloating can be controlled. Look up food combining. Certain foods really Do Not pair well together. For example protein and starch should never be eating together. Protein requires an initial acid digestive process where starches require a base (alkaline) digestive process. The two together neutralize each others digestive process. Certain fruits shouldn't be eaten together. Acid and sweet fruits should never be eat together. Raw foods should never be eat with cooked. The biggest thing you can do to avoid bloating is to eat your raw foods before any sort of heavy meal. Fruits and vegetables digest fast and when you eat a heavy meal before fruit it will cause a backup and this is where fermentation starts. When you understand food combining your bloating and fermentation issues dissappear.

Your skin looks really glowy and lovely in this video, I'm just wondering what vegan makeup you use? Would you be able to do a video about it?

Aw thanks hun! I lot of that is a good camera, quite a bit of makeup, and decent lighting but I have been trying to take better care of my skin and put a little more effort into my makeup so I appreciate it! Just have to keep it real and tell you there's a lot of things going on here lol I use so many kinds of makeup, I love a lot of stuff by NYX, Kat Von D, and Tarte :)

Hi. I'm also a vegan. I am currently 15 years old, I would just like to comment on the way you say it as 'diet'. Veganism isn't a diet. Being vegan is a lifestyle. You don't have to literally eat animal products, but you may not be aware of the things you wear, or use in your house. You should also incorporate the same idealogy of veganism in your lifestyle and not only your 'diet'. Don't forget to check if the clothes you wear are vegan (leather, fur...) or if the beauty products you use are vegan (is it tested on animals...) Being vegan is probably the best choice that I have made! I am happy and I know I'm making a difference😄🌿

Thank you for this video. I am current two weeks into my vegan journey and I have to say so far so good. It was over a year ago I decided to live a more healthier life. All my life I ate meat as you said thinking it was ok to do so. But over the last few years with all the recalls on meats and watching documentaries and other videos it really just turned me completely off to meat. I went cold turkey off all red meats and now a year later no meat at all only fish and lots of plant based foods. I hope I can one day get to complete Vegan. So far I’m doing good.

Us old timers hear a lot about millennials and the snowflake generation but watching this gives me hope that this new generation can pull away from the greed and self interest that has brought the world to the sorry state that it is in at the moment. If young people all over the world can unite through platforms like KZbin we have a chance for a better world where ignorance is overwhelmed with knowledge and armed with knowledge change will come.

Suprxme Storm no, but not acknowledging the suffering the animals go through is. It is still a personal choice whether you wish to act on this knowledge or not, but refusing to admit it exists or simply not realizing would be considered ignorance. Thank you for not going on a rant and instead just questioning the commenter, we need more people like you who don’t jump straight to arguing, so props to you! Hope this helped!

Suprxme Storm this is true in a sense, and I’m sorry if it came across as if I was saying you support animal cruelty, I understand this is not the case and did not mean to imply otherwise. I do stand with my previous arguments however, that the death of a living being, quick, short and painless or not, is still killing the animal and taking away its life. I realize my opinion is not shared by everyone but I merely do not agree with the killing of an animal, no matter how painless.

I have been vegan for six years, since I was 10 years old. Watching this video made me so happy!! You are totally right!! Sometimes, when talking to my friends, I feel so frustrated with answers such as "I need meat", "I like bacon". I belive it´s sad that something so horrofying can be so social accepted and protected...

I’ve usually don’t listen to someone chat on KZbin for 13 mins straight but girl your points are amazing and so true! I went vegan and it wasn’t a sacrifice in the slightest! But it is super frustrating that people do not listen. You just put it so eloquently ♥️

So, when I went Vegan one thing that happened was that I became more sensitive to violence. Physical violence, but also violence with speech. I felt more in touch with everything and felt the sacredness of life in all beings. Every choice I made with food, and with clothing was made from the place of love and non violence. I became more energetically sensitive. My energy skyrocketed! I was vegetarian for 16 years, but once I cut out dairy, I no longer felt tired in the mornings, where as before I was sluggish til about noon or two pm. Only side effect I wasn't thrilled about was that my boobs shrank a little. WTF?!! AHHHHHHHHH!!!!That part blows, but everything else Is fantastic!

voicesinthewoods plenty of great (not nice but as in powerful) leaders in history- who have held slaves or held captives in war have all said similar things to this paraphrase: don’t let your slaves eat meat . They knew this would give strength etc and was not given to anyone they wanted to control physically or mentally. I think it says a lot about how special meat might actually be. I’m not religious but I have seen in bible it says the animals IS life not HAS life. Big difference in words and interesting to ponder.

voicesinthewoods also always weird how movies have Always increased human violence to crazy levels but never animals (even cgi) probably to desensitize is to killing each other instead of animals. Ppl in power will always eat meat while the rest of us go vegan

I've been vegan for 6 months now and feeling better than ever. I had been reducing my animal products consumption for a year before finally going 100% vegan, so the biggest change was in my heart- I didn't feel guilty and with contradicting values. Peace of mind at last. I made the change quite gradually so I had no problem with excessive bloating etc. One thing I didn't expect was the way people get defensive when they see my lifestyle choices. They even get angry- without me even opening my damn mouth. They get angry because I choose to eat that way. Damn. But the most shocking thing for me was that even my friends choose to ignore what's happening. They see me thriving, always eating delicious food (cooking or delivery, sweet or salty, vegan food is everywhere nowadays) and YET they don't even CONSIDER reducing their meat consumption. At least, my boyfriend (we live together so he can really see that it's damn easy) has made significant progress and even defends me when our friends say stupid things.

So I'm here because yesterday my husband came home from work and asked me to watch something on Netflix with him that his coworker told him about. So I did. It was about the strongest athletes on a plant base diet. I lift weights 5-6x a week I been told to take protein shakes and eat lots of eggs, meat, and so I have! I came to KZbin to learn more about this lifestyle. Your video is the first I watched and My gah! You gave me more than 1 reason why this is something I should try and hopefully make it a lifestyle. I feel like crap because I been a carnivore and it's so true about animal cruelty. Like I've heard this before and know my meat comes from a chiken, cow or pig. But the way you say it it's an eye opener! Comes to my mind when I had a hard time breastfeeding and it was so painful! Poor cows 😭

Maybe you should actually go to a registered and qualified dietician who is vegan friendly or vegan themselves. I do have unfortunate health, but when I first went vegan, because I knew that, I went and saw a dietician. Few would trust some girl on KZbin to perform their heart surgery, just because she had been through one. However, for some reason many people refuse to go to a professional about diet, but they are happy to listen to anybody else. Four years of being bloated is annoying, but it could also be an indication of a serious issue. I work with animals and I am not qualified to know, but I do know that it is pretty reasonable to go and talk to a person qualified to do so. For the record an RD has to undergo a lot of education and practice in order to qualify. This web page talks about what is required in the USA, www.nutritioned.org/registered-dietitian.html I think that veganism is breaking through this, but we still have a reputation as a bunch of pseudoscience, fake allegation, militant, illogical, cult members. The widespread insistance on ignoring facts, science or reason, and the lack of respect shown for science, education and research in general, makes veganism seem stupid. But it is a legitimate, reasonable and good idea. There is so much peer reviewed research that actually supports veganism, that the lies damage a solid cause. Anyway, I feel like the cult of bananatards and veganstains is being over-ridden slowly. Your body, your choice, but I encourage to see a professional.

Could be gluten, or lack of a vitamin, which you should check with the doctor. But if it's not, then most likely your body actually isn't fit for a vegan diet and it would be better for you to be an omnivore. I would never put up with that even nearly as long myself. But its still your choice.

You know what. I enjoyed your video. You said a lot of things that made sense. I'm not vegan, nor am I thinking of becoming vegan. That doesn't mean i don't agree with some of what you said. Especially about how animals are treated. That also doesn't mean we don't buy meat at the grocery store, but we do limit how much and what we buy. I also am a hunter and try to provide the majority of my red meat in that way. We do buy pork products but not massive amounts. It's a small distinction I know but it is the one we make. Like I said. I liked what you had to say and the way you said it. Well done.
