You should do this with people that actually love sugar

I think it’s actually more interesting watching it with people who don’t have a huge sweet tooth. I have a giant sweet-tooth and it’s obvious that it’d be difficult for me, but this shows that there’s added sugar in everything that even people who don’t have a sweet tooth are affected
@alchemistdreams5 жыл бұрын
x8Sophie Yeah I think it’s more interesting too although it wouldn’t hurt to get another perspective. I always thought I wasn’t big on sugar. I don’t like candy, am not crazy about any other sweets except the pint of ice cream I get through every 6 months. The level of sweetness of packaged and restaurant desserts is oftentimes gross to me. However, when I started tracking the amount of added sugar I was having I realized that it was in a lot of savory foods. Even if I’m making a dish at home, sometimes I still struggle with leaving the sugar out because I just feel like it’s missing that extra oomph. The only way I could see cutting it out completely is either using a zero calorie natural sweetener or sweet whole foods like applesauce (homemade only), pineapple, dates, etc.

There’s a difference between “sugar” and “added sugar”. Sugars like Maltose is a natural sugar. You find this in things like organic honey, agave, and even fruits! You’d have to look at the ingredient list or look at labels that have the new label that have the “added sugar” section. Added sugar is typically refined, white sugar. Remember- a little bit of sugar is good but it’s about balance.

It is addictive, but not nearly as much as people think. If you were addicted to sugar you'd probably be fine eating sugar cubes as it is no one is out there overdosing on sugar cubes and chances are unless you have compulsion issues most people aren't going to see a sugar cube and just eat it. For further explanations, it's best to read science articles that also relate back to the original studies that many of these "experts" cite: behavioralscientist.org/no-sugar-isnt-new-heroin/ instead it mainly counts it as a mild case of substance disorder since it doesn't stop you from living your life like say heroine would. Also keep in mind as the article states most studies were conducted on rats and not humans.

I just started this challenge a week ago! So far I've been doing really well, and I've found a lot of options of stuff that I can eat. I went to a local organic food store, and I found no sugar added options for things like ketchup, salad dressing, pasta, and other staples that generally have sugar in them. I didn't cut out simple carbs (sustainable change is more important than extreme change people!), so I've been doing things like making my own bread at home so that I can still enjoy the food I love. I've made some exceptions and eaten some thing that have a gram or two of added sugar per serving, and I've had one night where I went off the challenge because there weren't any other options at the event I was at. Not starving is more important to me than rigidly following a self imposed challenge, so I'm just proud of what I've accomplished so far. Hopefully I continue to have a successful month!

i did this once when i was in high school. i had hormone problems so my period was not happening regularly (like i could get my period once per two months) but during my sugar free month, my period came right in time and i lost 5pound ish bcs of it. i felt sooo much healthier and lighter. im actually doing this again but not as strict as i used too! but definitely keeping the added sugar down for daily consumptions.

Thank you for this experiment you two beautiful women! I'm never going to be able to quit sugar. As a Swiss person I'll become anemic without my chocolate:) But anyways it's the amount of things that makes the difference. Don't exagerate and enjoy the food you're eating. As for me - I eat cake, chocolate or ice cream on special ocasions. That way it's always something special. Eating should be about enjoying and sharing and not about dependence.

So I am a chocolate and candy fend and I did this challenge about 2 years ago. It was hell on earth! I made it to about 60 days sugar free and I probably would have carried on but I started my travel lifestyle and it became near impossible. The worst part was the headaches and shakes I had when I was going through sugar withdrawal. Definitely not a challenge for the faint of heart.

Guys I did it. I used to love love sugar. But I cut it ALL OUT. I never really drank coke/soda bc it kinda hurts my tungue so I never had a problem with that. Buuut I love chocolate. So I stopped eating any sugar. And here is what happened: MY SKIN GLOWED UP. Like I used to have small bumps... GONE! Acne... GONE! My skin is smooth and glooowy. My weight decreased! I actually lost a lot of weight. And u actually feel better. People say that the chocolate gets u hyper and stuff, but the afterward effect just makes u fell full and glumly. Rather withought sugar just makes u feel good all the time. I TOTALLY RECOMMEND IT. But obiously don’t go to the extreme but yesss try it!

Sugar causes my autoimmune disease to initiate inflammation, bacterial infections, gastrointestinal issues, and chronic neurological pain, migraines, etc. If you have a chronic pain disorder, or a GI condition, definitely try cutting out sugar for a few months (including honey, agave, stevia and the "sugar free" sweet stuff. You'll be shocked how much better you're feeling as time goes on, and how bad you feel again when you eat that piece of cake or bowl of cereal. 🥄🥄🥄🥄🥄

I honestly don't understand this. The canned beans I buy only contain beans and water. What do you mean there's added sugar? There's also no added sugar in the pasta I buy. It's a refined carb, so it may essentially BE sugar, but it doesn't usually have sugar added to it!?!?

Yeah, the regular canned beans I get are beans, water and salt (and I'm in the US). I wonder if they understand that carbs are subcategorized as sugar, starch or fiber. And that lots of natural foods, besides fruit, already have sugar in them (like beans and carrots and bell peppers).

People act like sugar is a monster.. sugar isn't bad as long as it's not the only thing you consume
@artyzara17995 жыл бұрын
Well, sadly it kinda is. I have a relative who has memory loss (like Alzheimer's, though it is not as bad yet), and her son is a doctor. She wants to sleep all the time and forgets the conversation we had like a minute ago. We discovered that it has to do with all the desserts and carbohydrates she eats, and how they affect the brain. One day, she had less carbohydrates than she usually has, and the differences were very observable. So actually, even though sugar is tasty, it can be a monster. (Sorry if that came off as aggressive, just trying to explain the case)
@mrb88105 жыл бұрын
it wasnt negative but I feel you miss read my comment. I basically said that if someone's diet mail ly consists of that than yes it bad but if theres a variety of healthy meals with protien, carbs f/v then Its fine.

A note about plants is that they create glucose which is sometimes referred to as sugar, but it’s the most basic form of energy that we break down into ATP or cellular energy. So it’s important to distinguish between that and “added sugar”.

From my very underqualified and unprofessional understanding, the tests were done on rats that were starving and as a result they seemed addicted to sugar because their bodies were in starvation mode. (I very well might be remembering this wrong). Idk just thought I should mention this. I guess what im trying to say is do your own research
@kgal12985 жыл бұрын
I agree with you I've done more research on this I think this article sums it up best: behavioralscientist.org/no-sugar-isnt-new-heroin/ after much practice with my own diet I learned it's not really sugar that is my problem, but I just love highly palatable foods. Once I took time to slowly change out my diet my cravings for sugar went away now I only have it if I feel like it, I do still have some compulsion issues in stores, but baby steps.

i am glad that they removed processed sugar and any alternative sugar names. if they are okay with natural sugars like from fruit, doesn't that mean honey or pasta to rice to root base like sweet potatoes or corn be okay too? cause one who is diabetic definitely can't do lots of wheat/grain based like bread. rice and pasta form.

I feel that the things like the protein shakes, the probiotics, things with such minimal amounts of added sugar that would get flushed through your system with no work shouldn’t be something you’re so picky about. Some fruit has more sugar than some of the foods they’re having to avoid in the video. Just like we can’t deprive ourselves of all bacteria, we shouldn’t derive ourselves of all sugar. Don’t get me wrong, I think this is a good thing to do, taking away the big things that have a ton of added sugar. I personally get issues with my liver if I don’t watch my sugar intake- buuuut, I also am prone to my blood glucose levels dropping easily if I just avoid sugar too often. Taking out just the one thing isn’t going to do enough, and might do more harm than good (if not physically, mentally). Take out partials of each thing, like salt, fat, oils, sugar.

If you appreciated this video, you may also want to know that the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends consuming no more than 25 grams per day (or 6 teaspoons) of added sugar. This is the amount of added sugar found in 1 cup of most orange juices, 1 container of yogurt, a 3 inch donut 2 tablespoons of honey barbecue sauce, or ½ a small brownie!
