It should be mentioned that the d7100 has a pentaprism optical viewfinder, that not only appears larger to the eye, but is brighter as well. It also has 100% frame coverage. Its a pretty significant upgrade.

Tony Northrup Thank you for this great preview. I haven't had read this much information on D5500 elsewhere! I also noticed they changed grip material and texture (my D5300 grip started to wear out slightly and feel weird). And they relocated "info" and "i" buttons on D5500 ("i" button location on D5300 is annoying for frequent use for me), and finally I love the sliding thumb feature to move focus points as I frequently use "Fn" button. I think Canon is working hard to release something (maybe 80D !?) to compete with this lovely camera :)) I'm considering to buy a D5500 and 18-300mm f3.5-6.3 DX VR (newer and smaller one) lens for more zoom and sharper photos :)

Hi Tony I would like to ask a question. I have a Nikon D750 which is a great camera. Recently I got an HDMI lead and connected my MacAir to my 36inch TV. I viewed images from the 750 along with ones from my earlier D90 and D70's. The one's from the D90 and D70's were far better than expected in comparison with the D750. I am thinking of getting a second body for everyday use and wonder if the D5500 will fit the bill. Will the images from that camera be as good or better than the 90 and 70 ?

Hi Tony, I was looking at getting the D5500 as my first DSLR. Along with the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 ART lens is the 18-140mm kit lens good enough for an everyday walking around lens, or is it better to get body only and a different lens for just casual shooting?

I'm really considering getting The D5300, is it worth paying that extra 200/300 for the D5500?
@masononemine17025 жыл бұрын
it actually is, you would get slightly better iso performance and more of your shots would be in focus, not to mention that the touch screen is a god send when changing settings in Manual mode. if it makes your Picture taking experiance just that much stress free I think its worth it. just buy a 35 mm 1.8 or any fast lens and the difference gets more exaggerated. its a pain in the butt to use a faster lens on a D3300 because of the focusing system. I believe the nikon d5300 be better than that but I havent tested em side by side. Buy a nikon d5500 but if u cant find em at used, D5300 is a lovely camera. I have used both and I loved it. just make sure to buy an extra battery because these dont last that long.

I want to get my first dslr camera and I have been watching reviews and videos on youtube for more than a month now. They are very helpful however, I am still very confused. I love to take photos wherever I go and share them especially on Instagram and people like them! I want to become better and know more about cameras and photography, still I don't know which camera to get. Wifi and light weight are a must for me. I have the sony a5100 and it is an amazing camera. however, lacking a viewfinder is becoming to annoy me and also lack for external dials! so should I get the Nikon D5500 or should I upgrade to the D750 for example, or should I get something like the sony a7 Mark 2 ( but its very expensive I think)...I am very confused please help.
@InfiniteBeingX9 жыл бұрын
If you are on a budget, then the best camera for you is a D7100. If you are on a greater budget then get a D5300. But the $200 extra for the D7100 is much more worth it as it has a bigger sensor than the D5300, which will produce better pictures. If you are like me, who is also on a budget but willing to pay for the best image a camera can produce. Then get a D810. I got the D810 and omgosh the image it produce no matter night or day, low light or sunlight. The pictures looks phenomenon. It is the best camera available right now. But you can still start with a D7100 which is an awesome camera and maybe someday upgrade to a D810 or straight to the D810 for the best of the best.
@InfiniteBeingX9 жыл бұрын
You can get any of these cameras for cheap on Ebay. D5300 New is about $470. D7100 New is about $700-750. D810 New is $2500. Every now and then the D810 goes on sale on ebay for $2300. I got mine for $2300 through the seller "getitdigital" on ebay. Grey market/ import models and the USA models are exactly the same. Made in the exact same factories by the same people. Just the USA model carries a USA manufacture warranty. That is why the USA models are a lot more expensive. D810 USA model is $3000. You are paying that extra $500 for the USA 1 year warranty which most likely you will not use it. Sometimes the sellers on ebay offer you seller warranty to match the manufacturer warranty.

Hi, Tony, Chelsea I enjoy your videos much. However, I believe that your totally ignoring a pretty great camera when comparing the d5500, the Pentax Ricoh K3, which can do everything the Nikon can and much more. Right now the K3 is priced at around $700 USD and is an excellent value. Pentax does have a myriad of k mount lenses and are respected in the camera world. The Pentax/Ricoh brand has been making a pretty great lineup for all types of users, recently, such as the K3, the 645z and the GR. I hope in the future that you could preview/review the Pentax line. I have friends in the APSC Nikon world who are still waiting for a D400, but Nikon continues to push their full frame and consumer cameras such as the D5500 and D7100, so they re just keeping their D300's or going elsewhere. Meanwhile, I am going outside to take some photos.......... and will come back in to watch you Thursday show, later. Keep up the good work

Sriram P Nikon didn't mention touch-to-focus, but I would assume so. They didn't mention improved video focusing, so I'd assume it's similar to their other cameras, which is far worse than the 70D. We'll follow-up with real tests when we get a review copy in a month or so.

Mr. Northrup I think you're funny; your reference over the Nikon D 3300 sitting on your desk, granted it is not masculine ... lol. If I owned it and it was a good camera I would not squawk about the color. I have seen it online, I would buy one used if I could find it for a reasonable price used. It is my opinion: Any electronic equipment when sold secondary, should not be priced higher than half of its original value. I believe if you lowered the price you could probably sell it, maybe to a girl! I have seen several women using that camera at the beach here in California. Thank you to you and your wife for the great videos. Cerard Lee. PS I like your sweater looks comfortable!

Nice review, although I was amused at the usually unflappable Tony getting the model numbers mixed up. :-) Regarding the D7100 (which I am still considering) I love how a 2 yr old camera is considered "long in the tooth". The reality of consumer products in a consumption world I guess. I wondered when someone was going to work carbon fiber into the mix. Gives them a stop-gap "wow factor" while they figure out how to transition into the world of mirrorless without losing their key competitive advantage; native lenses and associative gear. BTW, for those of you who don't like incremental updates try what I do with bad TV... look away and ignore it.

Depends on your point of view. A Fuji X-E2 gets about 350 images per charge. Compared to most DSLR's, that's terrible. My previous camera shot film. 36 exposures ran me $7 plus the cost of developing and prints. Figure $500 for 350 images, and not all of them keepers. That kind of cash buys an awful lot of spare batteries.

Tony Northrup , Sorry Tony, my mistake. Perhaps, I confuse, should have read carefully. At Nikon USA in TechSpecs under Interface section at the line above: "available seperately", but at the same time at the line below it gave me an impression that it is there. In other hand, I watched several other preview and review, also one pdf in comparison with D5300, but none of them give any notification on about that issue. Too bad I wish the same like you, GPS unit is built-in. I'm glad you notice it in your preview, which many others don't. Good Luck.

Nothing screams 'cool' more than a huge camera and lens around your neck. Just make sure to keep the big logo branded neck strap. Don't go for comfort, you NEED to show people how 'cool' you are!

Tony breathed only once at 18:20, and when he exhaled the camera sensor melted...

I hate this kind of comparisons where you just check spec and say that more af poins is better.

Again another forgettable Nikon release, when will they produce something interesting in this series. Nikon is it not about time with a proper mirrorless camera?
