Thank you once again for stating that 5.76M Dot EVF means 1600 x 1200 pixels. We, as an industry, really need to move away from this "Million dots" BS. All this unit does is hide the fact that manufacturers have been giving us unacceptable quality screens and EVFs for so long.

That's what happens when you cut out Coolpix, and all the DSLR bodies and lenses. The new viewfinders are cheaper to make. Most of the batteries are lower capacity. They've cut out power bricks for the most part. They did a lot of cutting by pretty much killing off the entry level market that smartphones captured. The APS-C line is still pretty slim. They've focused mostly on FX bodies and lenses. They're still using old sensor technology but optimizing them to the max and beyond. I think ai was also able to help them cut staff. So that's good for the company, not so much for someone needing to put food on the table. They're getting a lot of money from their lens technology making glass for other brands.

Love that they didn't get carried away with positivity but mention motivational points where the product is "almost there, keep trying" to the manufacturer such as open gate recording and shutter angle control. One depends on fast readout, which this camera has, the other is a simple menu item. Could both features come in a firmware update?

It checks all the boxes for an amazing hybrid photo/video camera. I owned a Nikon D7000 for three years that I still look back at fondly. This camera has good AF, good ergonomics, good battery, good video quality, good IBIS, good photo quality and fantastic lenses. My bank account also not. But i guess Nikon would hit it with this one - a baby Z8 is all i'd really appreciate & love, since the Z8 came out. The EVF does have a nice upgrade, too. (vs. Z8/Z9 bodies) If the AF is with the Z6 III onto Z8/Z9 level, also the new 24.5 MP Sensor really optimized for low light, what's not to like? Only the rumored price into germany (3K EUR!) is very high - but then, it could being called at least enthusiast, if not semipro body. Hope Nikon doesn't forget also the Z5 II perhaps into Fall/Winter 2024, or spring 2025...as entry level Z body. Anyway, the Z-system does have with the 24-70/F4 S-lens is a fine zoom lens, for all purpose usage. No other brand does offer a 24-70 this good, for that asking price - i mean 2nd hand like new. Canon's 24-105/F4 L RF is *much* more expensive. And Sony...i would go either way for the 20-70/F4 G zoom, or the all new Sigma 24-70/2.8 ART Mark II - nothing less, seriously. And the weather sealing, the optics in front of the EVF is that good, i've the A7, A7 II...the EVF is horrible, any 2018 Nikon Z6 is so much better via EVF, than this crap from Sony, sorry to say. Weathersealing even of the Z5 is Z6/Z7 Level, i've seen worse tests about the A7(R)III back into the heyday. My guess is (being a Nikon shooter since the mighty Nikon FM) the Z6 III would be a home run for Nikon, and kick ass ! But i do shoot all gear brands, have Canon, Sony, Minolta, Yashica, Olympus, etc. too. Every once into a while, brand xyz brings out a great one, or even game changer momentum. Which is great, because it pushes the competition, to get better - and so on...an neverending process, for the better, "Kaizen" if you will this way.

Can't wait to get my hands on this. Replaced my first Z6 with the Z9 on release and love it but my second body is still the other Z6 and I didn't feel like the Z6ii was a big enough upgrade to warrant the switch, this looks like what I've been waiting for though!

3 or 4 years back I was quite unclear if Nikon will make it. They did stick too long with the old DSLR tech. I mean I loved those but it became clearer and clearer, that the will be replaced by mirrorless. But now - Nikon made it. Nikon is back. Happy that I did not sell my gear. Most of my lenses I can adapt and will buy 1 or 2 native Z lenses for the start.

Most cameras these days are killing it. Canon will one up them, Sony will one up both of them, and the cycle continues. Not worth jumping brands because of a "moment."

As a very happy Zf owner, love this. Knowing myself, in a few years I'll convince myself I need a more "serious" body and knowing that these will have been out there means that won't either be a Z8 tier price jump, or significant step back on things like IBIS/AF which is great.

Of course the Z8 will probably only be on sale until June 16.. diabolical, Nikon 😅

I was never a big fan of the button and menu layouts in Nikon cameras during the DSLR era, but they have been making some really appealing cameras lately and this one is right up my alley. 24MP sensors really feel like the sweet spot for my particular work. Unfortunately I have a whole stable of Fuji lenses instead…
