This Canon T100 / EOS 4000D Camerawize video shows you how to set up your Canon Rebel T100 or Canon EOS 4000D (also the Canon EOS 3000D) when you have got it out of the box. Setting up your camera is really important as it will affect the quality of your pictures and videos.

The Battery
By fully charging and then draining your battery as you use it, use extend the life of the battery. If you look at the battery then you see that there are electrical connectors on one end and there is a Canon logo on the battery, so to put the battery in properly, you have the connectors facing the camera and the logo facing you and it will go in. Like most modern batteries it will only go in one way so if it doesn't go in very easily then the chances are you have got it in the wrong way around.
The Memory card
The second thing to do is to put in your memory card. It really is essential to have somewhere where you can keep these pictures and videos permanently and safely and that usually means an external hard drive. Like the battery, the card has electrical conductors and it has the logo on the front and if you put it this way so that the logo faces you and it goes into the little slot above the battery then you can just slide it in.
The Menus
When you want to go into the menus in the camera it is very important to make sure that you are on Manual Mode and the reason for that is that when you press menu button, you get all the menu tabs going across the top. If you were on a different semi-automatic or a completely automatic option then when you press the menu options you don't get all the tabs going across the top.
Format your Memory Card
If you have a new card or a card that you have taken from a previous camera, it is really important to format it so that the card and the camera will work together. The way you do that is by pressing menu button and then go to SETUP TAB 1 and here you can see the option to format the card.
The Monitor Brightness
If you find the brightness of the LCD monitor either too bright or too dark then you can change that by going to SETUP TAB 2. Click on LCD brightness and choose to either make it brighter or darker.
The Auto Off Setting
There is nothing more irritating than the camera switching itself off when you are still trying to compose a picture. Whilst it helps to save the battery life it can interrupt your train of thought and slow you down. You can change the length of time it takes for the camera to turn off by going to SETUP TAB 1 and choosing AUTO POWER OFF.
The ISO Setting
The ISO setting manages the sensitivity of your sensor to the light coming into the camera. The Canon T100 will be on auto ISO setting to begin with which is very convenient in most cases. It is easy to control the ISO by using the Cross Keys. Press the top one labeled ISO and the ISO options will appear on the LCD screen.
File Size and Compression
The next thing to consider is the file size and compression ratio the Canon 4000D will shoot a 18 megapixel file and that is a very high quality image.

hello, the camera doesn't have an in built speaker, so you will need to play the video on a computer to get the sound. The sound option in in the video menus and you can adjust the levels to ensure that the sound is the right volume.

Hello, It should be there. Mine is also a 4000D - rather than a t100. (though they are both exactly the same camera). Is the mode dial switched to M for manual? then go to set up menu 3 ( the spanner icon) and it will be under COPYRIGHT INFORMATION.

After I posted this, I was going through a Skillshare lesson and the instructor was using the Manual mode, and I saw that his Menu had more items than what I saw while I was in the "bunny slope" mode (A+?). I then checked the Menu in Manual mode, and there it was! I'm a retired computer programmer, so I can make computers "do stuff" (I speak fluent C#), but cameras? I had heard of aperture, ISO, and F stops, but had only the vaguest idea what they were. So much new stuff to become fluent in! This is going to be fun! Thanks for your video, by the way, it helped.

Hello, it is another way to navigate the menus and some of the features. so for example, if you go to the menu, the wheel will navigate across the menu categories. if you are in one of the preset modes and press the Q button, the wheel will help you to navigate through the options.

Hello, yes this camera would be fine for toy photography, but why change if your 550D os still working ok? when you say toy photography, are you thinking of close up pictures of models? If that is so, I might look at getting a lens - perhaps a Canon EF-S 35mm f/2.8 IS Macro, which would help you to get really good macro pictures. Or look at getting some extension tubes. they re much cheaper and will fit onto the lenses you have..

The Canon shoots .mov files and not all mobile phones will accept that format. I suggest oyu check the acceptable format for your phone and then change the .mov format in an editing software.

Yes it can record sound, but it only has an internal microphone. More expensive cameras have an external microphone socket so that you can attach a microphone, which would usually sit on top on the camera. And external microphone is usually better. however, you can get good sound from the camera with the internal microphone of you re not too far away.

Hello Hazza, If you don't have perfect eyesight, then the image through the view finder might look out of focus. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do with the camera, other than either look though the viewfinder with your glasses on - which is quite difficult - or switch the camera to the liveview screen. However,if you have the lens on autofocus, the camera will shoot a sharp image, even if it looks fuzzy to you through the viewfinder.

Hello, There is no function on this camera which puts the time/date on the visible image. However, if you set the time and date, the camera will record when the picture was taken and this helps you find them later. If you want to have a visible date stamp, there are some cheap/free softwares that can do this for you.

if you have a standard kit lens with the camera, it will be the 18-55mm, f3.5-5.6. The f numbers reflect the maximum aperture at the two focal lengths. So at 18mm your maximum aperture is f3.5. At 55mm, your maximum aperture is f5.6.

Why buy the Canon 4000D, which sells for only about $90 less than the Canon T7 (Canon 2000D) & is a Much better camera ? The 4000D has a Cheap Plastic Mount, while the T7 has a Metal Mount.

I think that Canon want to sell the cheapest DSLR camera, as they see that as a way of getting new customers into the brand. You are right that the T7 is a better quality camera and it has a larger file size, but the 4000D is an excellent camera for the price and if that $90 makes the difference, then it is a very good option.

The 4000D is designed for new users who are learning the basics of DSLR photography and so would probably not change lenses too often, and probably not have many big, heavy lenses. You are right in that the plastic mount is a possible weak spot, but treated properly it should be no problem.

I'm so old, my first SLR was a Minolta SRT 101. I can also remember when Pentax, and some others, had "Screw Mounts" (Instead of Bayonet Mounts) for their lenses. (Those were a Nuisance, but I never owned one.)

Yes I would like people to buy my course, but this video, and several others about the 4000D are free, as is the guide and also a sample of the manual. No one is compelled to buy my manual, but it does have very good reviews from the people who have bought it and watched the videos. I would put in a link to them , but you might accuse me of cynically advertising the course. That would never do, would it?
