Her guitar work is highly underrated, notice the pedal board she uses on stage, serious! Her inner chord movement with her finger picking style is marvelous. There’s also a overlooked member of her performance lineup which is the soundboard tech who is a active member of the sound, notice the different echo,reverb and delay effects on almost every passage, he’s performing also👍 Please have a listen to “Wake me up” live

Ah, I'm so glad you've discovered what I consider the gold standard of all music videos. The voice, the musicality, and the performance are incomparable. It's a perfect storm that leaves you stunned and breathless, but in a good way. Your reaction was icing on the cake. Next, you might consider one of the live performances of "Gullspunnin", another favorite of mine. You won't be disappointed...

Have you heard the Soundtrack to the TV series, The Last Kingdom. It's mind blowing. Every sound is made by veteran composer John Lunn and Eivor. John discovered Eivor watching the same video you did Nina. He arranged a meeting to see what she could offer. After 3 days they had recorded the main theme which Eivor made up out of her head vocally and did in one take, singing over music John had recorded. Ask John what her musicality is like. He said she can sing anything, even singing as a young boy at one stage. He stopped asking her if she could do whatever. The music for the series was credited to John Lunn and Eivor.

I saw Eivør in concert many years ago, and spoke to her after the show, me speaking Norwegian and her speaking Gøtudanskt (Danish spoken with Faroese phonetics, which makes it effectively Norwegian).

That's sounds really cool... completely over my American head, but really cool....
@eckligt
@eckligt Жыл бұрын
@@johnjohn37371 There's a wikipedia page about it: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gøtudanskt_accent Basically Faroese is its completely own language, about as intelligible to Norwegians and Danes as German is to someone who only speaks English -- that is, you might make out a word here and there, but mostly not. Meanwhile, Danish and Norwegian are 98 % the same, except with _extremely_ different pronunciation rules -- so they are mutually intelligible in writing but often not in speech. As a quirk, on the Faroe Islands, which is under the Kingdom of Denmark, alongside their own language of Faroese, they have traditionally been speaking Danish using their local pronunciation rules. This has come to be known as Gøtudanskt. And because the Faroese and Norwegian pronunciation rules are broadly similar, it just ends up sounding like an odd, hard-to-place dialect within Norwegian. At least to me. And by the way, the excellent youtube channel NativLang did a video on why Danish sounds odd: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3qYdYOqaKyYldU And in fact, that video builds on another one they did: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2GXY3p-obqapbM So if you're interested, go ahead and watch the second video link before the first one. Kind regards from Norway

@@eckligt Thank you very much for the information...I'm always fascinated by regional differences, dialects, or smaller countries with multiple languages. Here in the states, about all we have to contend with are accents...some severe, admittedly, but all mostly intelligible. Because of that, foreign languages have never been prioritized in our education system as they should be. We have a large enough latin American/Mexican population that Spanish should be mandatory learning. Years ago, I bowled in a tournament in Finland, and was struck then how well it seemed that all the competitors from the Scandinavian countries spoke English. It actually seems true the world over. I've traveled a fair bit and have yet to have a real problem. I am excited to watch the videos you suggested, and I thank you again for the info...

I'm Faroese and glad to hear that Gøtudanskt is that similar to Norwegian, because I would get Norwegian and Swedish words mixed up if I try to speak either of those two languages. Seems I should just focus on what I already know when talking to Norwegians and try get more experience speaking Swedish.

Hi, Nina! If you love Eivor's music I would highly suggest listening to more of both her folk style songs, like the ones she made for the Netflix TV series The Last Kingdom, and some of her more modern songs (all of which will incorporate some folk elements into it because that is her specialty). I personally LOVE when artist combine old folk styles with more modern sounds because it makes the musical piece feel so much more dynamic and full of depth. Another great folk artist is Heilung and Joanna Jinton. The latter (Jinton) is extremely talented in the ancient art of kulning. Kulning is an ancient Scandinavian herding call. Its unique vocal technique was traditionally used by women to call livestock like cows and goats from high mountain pastures back to the farm. The high-pitched, melodic calls can travel long distances, which makes them effective for communication in the vast landscapes of Scandinavia. Kulning is not only functional but also has a hauntingly beautiful quality, often conveying a sense of melancholy due to its use of half-tones and quarter-tones. Today, it has evolved into an art form, with many performances and recordings showcasing its mesmerizing sound.

I could not hear any overdubs. Lot of reverb which Eivor controls with her foot pedals. All I could hear was guitar, drums and the synth's, including the bass synth he was using. Eivor's operating some guitar delay with her pedals also. I expect being there would have sounded even more awesome. It is very well recorded, but it is her making it sound like a studio recording. Not as much as a slight waver in her singing, even on delicate notes, basically it's perfection. A normal singer would make it sound more average, probably needing backup vocals to carry it.
