We are not looking store the clutter, we are looking at moving it on, letting it go. Thankyou for this wisdom.

Dr. Phyllis - I've told my spouse of umpteen years that his clutter actually makes me feel nervous - and it stabs my eyes like needles! From your presentation, I see that my reaction is valid and gives me evidence to present to him! Hopefully, this will be the year that his clutter will be removed my line of sight. Thank you! just wanted to thank you for your videos, you are very nice to listen to :) My mother doesn't get my attraction to feng shui or minimalism, or not as much as I would like to be able to connect like friends about it if you know what I mean, she's just not as spiritual as I am. I feel like you have a very calming motherly vibe that is like a substitute for someone relating to me with this in that role, if you get what I mean haha :) it's kind of comforting, I guess it's a compliment? hehe

This is everything I need. I have furniture that I need to get rid of but my Mother wants me to grip it because her deceased Mother picked it out for her. It's been in the family for maybe 20+ years, though! I don't like the table. What should I tell her?

That's a tough one to navigate because of the sentimental attachment for your Mom. Do you think she would be open to picking the 3 most import pieces from the collection and keeping just those items. If not negotiate for donating one piece. and maybe in 3 months another piece. I sense that slow but steady is called for here. Good Luck

+Kam Wri I can so relate to your dilemma except I am your mother! When my parents died 5 years ago, I did get rid of a lot of stuff because I had 3 booths at an antique mall and then the mall closed down. The owner of the mall was taking our rent and not giving it to the owner of the building. He shut down the building and kept most people's stuff. I was able to get most of mine out because I was one of about 3 people who were told what was about to happen. My problem is that I can't give away, sell or let anyone even touch anything of my Daddy's. And there is so much stuff! He lived to be 95 and didn't throw anything away. I was a Daddy's girl and I won't let anyone touch anything that belonged to him. I have been getting better, but I still have trouble with not letting go of anything. Maybe you have other family members who are willing to take on a table or perhaps someone close to you may have a family member getting married who needs a table? If you get THEM to go to your mother and tell her that you have such and such a table and they absolutely love it and would she mind terribly and if she will let them use it, they will cherish it forever and then perhaps they can tell her that if she EVER wants it back, they will bring it to her, but they would treat it with the same care that she did and her mother did, knowing what a treasure it is? Good luck!
