I think the cutscene when the king tells Link what happened 100 years ago isn't a literal "this all happened at exactly this time", but rather a loose description of the events. Not a detailed minute by minute breakdown of everything, just a summary. Sort of like the Unreliable Narrator trope, he left out a LOT of details because they simply weren't relevant to the current situation (Link defeating Ganon and rescuing Zelda - he didn't need to know every single event and the time it happened during the calamity).
@BL34464 жыл бұрын
Additionally, I think this can apply to a lot of the memory cutscenes. Like any memory, (especially those recovered 100 years later), you're really only gonna remember the main parts and the general order of events. It's not a play by play.

I've been thinking that this is exactly what the Three Timelines are, as well. Legends handed down through time by different tribes, told different ways. They aren't meant to be accurate reflections of history, but stories remembered in different ways, similar to the Mandela Effect. They eventually all were lost by BotW's time, except the details of OoT. The only thing all three legends agreed on.

Also, everybody seems to think Revali and Link will fight. According to Revali in Breath of the Wild, it never happened. "Win or lose, I would have loved the chance to settle the score with you." So the context will likely not be that in Age of Calamity. EDIT: a lot can be inferred from that portion of the quote I originally posted, but the whole thing leaves even less room for interpretation and more solidarity as to why it likely never happened. So here's Revali's quote in it's entirity. "It's pointless to dwell on the past. Still. You and I should have fought 100 years ago. A duel against the one who came to Rito Village to challange my authority. Just imagine. The hero of the Rito against Hyrule's mightiest knight! A battle for the ages! Win or lose, I would have liked a chance to settle the score with you."
@AMOE19874 жыл бұрын
Just means that they didn't 'finish' their battle. Likely interrupted as they were sparring, or that this was the challenge demanded by Revali for him to join the champions, but monsters crawl out of the woodworks and they must stop their battle to fight off the enemies, which then makes him join reluctantly, but they never got to 'settle the score' before Revali died.
@nickdejager88734 жыл бұрын
I always just assumed that it was meant to look like a spar (or Revali's betrayal) , but was actually a battle and Rev is saving Link from a monster (so he can gloat later)
@AMOE19874 жыл бұрын
@@nickdejager8873 very likely, but the line from BotW still holds true if it's a rescue. In the original Hyrule Warriors you often have to go rescue captains, or other heroes if their health gets too low. Maybe Link will have to do this to Revali when they attempt to recruit him, and this is Revali's rescue of Link in return to make things even. However Link being Link and thus the Hero... he's likely going to save Revali yet again before he eventually gets killed by Windblight, leaving Revali unable to 'settle the scores' and not having to repay a life debt... not that he can anymore :p
@NintendoBlackCrisis4 жыл бұрын
Actually, this brings up a great possibility. Like others suggested, perhaps it was interrupted. But Revali may have been mad because Link refused to fight him using the Master Sword, and perhaps he felt that Link was "going easy" on him, making a victory not feel satisfying.
@bulletproofman3234 жыл бұрын
@@NintendoBlackCrisis possibly. The reason I'm hard pressed to believe it happened at all is because of how final the entire quote is. "It's pointless to dwell on the past. Still. You and I should have fought 100 years ago. A duel against the one who came to Rito Village to challange my authority. Just imagine. The hero of the Rito against Hyrule's mightiest knight! A battle for the ages! Win or lose, I would have like a chance to settle the score with you." It really sounds like they never even had a chance, regardless of how brief. I'm going to guess Link swinging his sword in the trailer is him thinking an enemy is coming out of the smoke and him pre-emptivley striking, only for Revali to also think he's being attacked and fire back and them both realizing it was a judgement of error. That's just my guess though haha. Great job on the video! It's put together super well!👍

We need the last five missions to be a Halo Reach style survival only mission where they end only when you the player lose and its not just clear a certain number of waves and then die in a cutscene but only die when you the player fall. It'll be heartbreaking and epic to fight as each of the champions against overwhelming odds without hope but struggling all the same to save the world and their loved ones before playing as Link in the last mission fighting just hordes of guardians with the futile hope of Zelda escaping before falling for the last time to then have Zelda awaken just a little too late to seal Ganon.

So we see in-game that the Great Plateau was targeted by Guardians, and we also know that Rhoam apparently died on top of Mount Hylia, or at least somewhere on the Plateau to warrant his memorial being placed on the highest point there. What if Rhoam died fending off the Guardians as Link was put into the Shrine of Resurrection, instead of at the castle? The Sheikah could have met up with what was left of Rhoam's men, and he could have escorted them to the Plateau to defend them from Ganon.
@Minkymink184 жыл бұрын
It’s implied that Rhoam was already dead by the time Link fell
@albertdenovellis40514 жыл бұрын
Although Zelda says that Rhoam died in the castle, I had always thought that Rhoam and a detachment of the royal guard had fled to the great plateau where they made a final stand. This would tie in with why there is some soldier gear, multiple guardians, and what all evidence points to being Rhoam's grave are on the plateau. That's just a thought, of course.
@BayouBoeeBabe4 жыл бұрын
Rhoam died in the Castle when the Guardians took over. Zelda and the Sheikah took Link to the Shrine of Resurrection, and while on the Great Plateau Zelda most likely thought to mourn her fallen father as well and set up a grave for him. She couldn't set up a grave at the Castle because the Guardians took it over.

@Fluffynator @Fluffynator Then the Sheikah made the grave. Even though it will be absolutely nuts too see the Champions die, I am hoping on the final mission being Zelda traveling to her home Hyrule Castle. Fighting along the way, trying and testing out the limits of her divine power and maybe realizing she can’t fully seal Ganon just quite yet. So she comes up with the temporary sealing of Ganon which includes her being sealed along with him, using her power as a power source but not siphoning all of it so she can use her full strength later. I sure would like to hear her last thoughts as she prepared herself.

The lore from Masterworks is deliberately vague. It says the truth was lost to time, and only states what is likely. Link had the sword for years before becoming a Champion. How many years, and how long will the AoC story take? He was likely already a knight or at least in training to become one when he gained the sword.

I would suggest for now that we see the story itself, by and large, as canon, BUT small details like moves and runes that might deviate slightly are done for ease and enjoyment of gameplay and can be overlooked. This game is going to be multiplayer and can be played using different characters in different situations. It makes sense that things like those runes, or effects similar to those runes, would be a part of gameplay regardless of "real" game lore. This to me is a minor, acceptable break from in-game "reality" for the sake of gameplay as long as, by and large, the story itself is the same, in the end.

When you think about it, the events of the calamity is kind of like order 66. Think of Link, Zelda, and the other champions as the high Jedi Council, and Ganon as Palpatine. I wonder if Link will be given spoken dialogue in a few cutscenes; there are some diary entries where Link spoke with either the Champions or Princess Zelda; when Link befriended Daruk and tells him of his flurry rush ability, an argument with Mipha at Ploymus Mountain before the fight with the Lynel, when Link told Urbosa that Zelda was exploiting the Gerudo Town law to avoid him, and when he tells Zelda why he was so silent after they got on better terms. There’s also memory 14, where Zelda quotes some advice Link told her offscreen about bonding with her horse. Edit: Considering the demo, if Link is given dialogue, it will likely be through player chosen responses like in Breath of the Wild, or his voice is muted or just a grunt when he speaks to other characters with no dialogue, leaving what he said to player interpretation.

I think one thing to note is that monster attacks didn't happen right as the calamity awoke. There's the memory that shows link fought a bunch of monsters, and another where the Yiga clan are mentioned. I think the order of events would have been something like this: 1. Monster attacks grow in number, and the Yiga clan starts making problems. 2. The king recognizes these as signs that Ganon is close to returning, so people start getting busy(er). Armies are mobilized and sent out to deal with the monsters, they finish choosing the champions if it wasn't done already, the work on restoring sheikah tech is sped up, etc. 3. The princess goes to visit each of the springs to unlock her power so they can actual beat Ganon. 4. Ganon returns, the guardians and divine beasts are corrupted, Link & Zelda go to the castle, the other champions to their divine beasts. 5. Link and Zelda fail to retake the castle and run away with whoever they can save, the champions attempt to retake the divine beasts, and die in the process. It makes sense since you don't see Ganon revived in the initial monster attack scene, so I think it's likely that Ganon's return was the finishing blow, not the opening move. And if the divine beast scene is from 2~3, it makes sense we see the uncorrupted divine beasts being used and still have Ganon corrupt the beasts the moment he revives. I also don't think Link having the master sword from a young age and becoming the champion later is a contradiction. The master sword, as said, often needs some sort of requirement to be used. Ocarina of time Link, for example, could not wield the master sword when he first found it so had to be put in a magic coma for several years and grow up to become worthy, and the the time of BotW, the master sword has lost a lot of power. So if we assume Link had to become worthy, or the master sword needed some repairs, which is likely, it makes sense that Link would have 'had' the master sword from a young age(him being the reincarnated hero and all), but not actually have used it until he was 'worthy' enough, at which point he officially became the champion. It also somewhat explains the reasons for the royal guard weapons. An attempt to recreate the master sword would be important if the current hero was somehow unable to wield the master sword. They never bothered to move out of prototype stage and do something about the bad durability as by that point, Link became able to wield the master sword, making a replica unnecessary.

This is my theory on why King Rhoam's grave is on the Great Plateau: King Rhoam escaped the Castle and along with some others and fled to the Great Plateau. They were pursued and eventually defeated while taking refuge in the Temple of Time and the Eastern Abby. The Great Plateau offers physical defense due to its elevation and has only one entrance, is close to both the Kolomo and Hyrule Garrisons as well as several surrounding villages and the entrance could be collapsed to deny any would-be invader from easily reaching the Plateau (as currently seen in the game). Also on the Plateau, the only places we find Guardians are the Temple, Eastern Abby, and around the northern edge of the River of the Dead leading towards Mt Hylia. Picture this: The King is in his secret study hidden in the Library, writing what would be his final entry in his diary. The castle begins to shake and tremor! There's a thunderous roar as Calamity Ganon arises from underneath the Castle. King Rhoam and some soldiers quickly flee the castle through the hidden passage, down to the docks where they board whatever vessels can be found. Calamity Ganon corrupts the Guardians and begins his reign of terror and death. The King and his soldiers disembark and land near the Castle Town Prison, gathering everyone that can be quickly found. King Rhoam gazes up towards his once beautiful home as Calamity Ganon heaves another mighty roar. Already smoke and flames envelope the Castle and Castle Town. The screams and cries of the unfortunate souls still trapped inside Castle Town can be clearly heard above the din of constant explosions. The King and his people hastily skirt the western edge of Castle Town, through the Quarry and towards the Mt Gustaf road. They move south, passing close to the Hyrule Garrison and the Exchange. There they gather even more soldiers and citizenry. Soon, they come upon Gatepost Town and gather the last remaining people that can be found as they enter the Great Plateau gate. The King orders the entrance sealed as the wearily citizens seek shelter inside the Temple of Time and Eastern Abby, hoping and praying for an end from this waking nightmare. The Guardians arrive at the Plateau and to the horror of everyone, begin scaling the outer walls with ease, even as the stone face crumbles under their weight. The King and soldiers fall back to the Temple, it is after all the most holy site in all of Hyrule. If there were any salvation or divine intervention from this terror, it would come from there. The Guardians surround the Eastern Abby, utterly destroying it along with the fearful people huddled inside. The Guardians begin to attack the other buildings. Soldiers and townsfolk alike fighting tooth and nail against the wave of Guardians. The three Goddess temples in front of the Temple of Time are destroyed. The Guardians are now advancing on the Temple of Time itself! King Rhoam now realizes this is the end, there is no salvation to be found here. He draws his sword and valiantly attacks the nearest Guardian but is mortally wounded by the mechanical monstrosity and is quickly carried back inside the Temple. His efforts were in vain but not fruitless. His display of utter courage has spurred his weary people to new heights, fighting with a savagery and fury hardly seen before. They destroy many of the Guardians at the very steps of the Temple. A Guardian slips by and destroys the outer wall. As it begins to climb inside the Temple, the King takes his last breath. The few remaining people once again rally against the attacking Guardians, crying in agony "LONG LIVE THE KING!". A few remaining soldiers collect the King's body and retreat along the Northern edge of the River of the Dead. A fitting name under these circumstances. Still fending off the last attacking Guardians while carrying the King's body, they make it to the river's crossing as the final pursuing Guardian falls. They cross but have no where else to go. They take shelter inside a cave underneath the waterfalls as they decide what to do next. Eventually, they decide to bury the King on top of Mt Hylia where his grave can overlook the land and castle he once reigned over. One hundred years later, the King's spirit waits upon the Great Plateau. Waiting, for the fallen Hero to awaken from the Shrine of Resurrection to finally defeat Calamity Ganon and save his precious daughter.

The original game had hidden golden skulltulas, and getting enough of them will put together a picture. Maybe AoC will have something similar, where collecting a certain amount of hidden things (maybe golden koroks) will unlock a cutscene for random background lore. Something not necessary for completion or the main story, but could possibly inspire theories or flesh out a character.

To make similarities with BOTW and Hyrule Warriors. Both games had a collectable. Korok seeds and Gold Skultulas. It could be that Link has to collect the Korok seeds in Age of Calamity and once he collects enough, he can unlock memories that take place before AoC like for example him obtaining the Master Sword. Another way they could do events before AoC is having prologue chapters similarly to Hyrule Warriors where there's missions for Cia recruiting Wizro and Volga but in AoC's case it would be memories that we can play in.

A ton of the info in masterworks has disclaimers in it like "It is believed that..." or "The exact details have been lost to time but...". The blurb that says Link got the master sword when he was 12 or 13 is also written with some uncertainty. I think they did that on purpose in case they decide to change it in a game later. It's not technically a ret-con since they gave themselves an out in the way it was worded.

I can imagine that some of the quests right before Ganon's attack would be escorting Zelda to the shrines. It would show off different regions, while also giving a chance for more battles to occur. This would make more sense to why all champions were with Zelda at Mount Lanayru, since hordes of monsters were about.

Hey I kinda came up with a mini theory here- if you go to the very north eastern bit of castle town in botw then you’ll see a place called hyrule cathedral. My mind just blew up today. The weapons that the blights used where very similar to the champions weapons. I mean honestly Mipha used a trident while Waterblight uses a spear that looks similar. Daruk uses a huge bolder breaker and Fireblight uses a huge sword that looks similar. Ravioli uses a bow a bomb arrows and Airblight uses a laser cannon that sets of an explosion. Lastly Urbosa uses the Simitar of the Seven and the Daybreaker and Thunderblight uses a curved blade and a shield. I thought that this was very interesting and you can use it for a theory video if you want to. Thanks for your time. 😁

It's theorized that Calamity Ganon started attempting to cause problems prior to his actual invasion. Possible examples include the boulder falling towards Link on Death Mountain, and the Crazy Guardian. What if his first attempt was really the death of Zelda's mother? Maybe after that failed attempt, he tries again, only this time he uses his followers while near Gerudo Town (and Urbosa intercepts). Once more, near the Oasis, but Link intercepts...

Zelda games aren't exactly the king of tight knit lore and story, there are inconsistencies all over the place - so the gist of the story I'd consider canon, but questions like "when does Link initially get the Master Sword?" is probably an inconsequential detail to the Zelda team if it gets retconned.
@lazerNeo4 жыл бұрын
I always had this thought that the reason the Champions lost to the Blights was because Ganon was at the peak of his power at that time and so the Blights they fought was way stronger compared to the ones Link fought a 100 years later. Also take into consideration that Zelda had sealed Calamity Ganon, limiting his power, and that Link also went to fight them fully prepared with a lot of his weapons in his arsenal while the Champions had to fight them at the last minute.

NintendoBlackCrisis I have a theory idea. Remember when you did your Link's secret ability theory way back in 2018, you know, the furry rush and how time seems to slow down for him? Well, have I got news for you. This theory of mine involves Urbosa. Sure, she has her own champion ability, but she may have an additional one. In the trailer, when she was fighting hoards of Yiga, she used a furry rush on one, and yes, time slowed down for her too, just like Link. Now, this is strange, since her and Link don't seem to be related, and we don't even know if Link's father has the same ability, and if it's passed down through generations, but there is a possibility. Is Urbosa Link's mother or just distant/regular relative? I mean, look at her behavior towards Link. But that's besides the point. How and why is this power in both champions? Is this ability just a skill you can learn? Or is there something else going on? "But Izzy, Urbosa furry rushing is part of the game play, and that part of the game might not be necessarily canon!" You are right. The game play might not be canon, as we saw in the trailer. But there is more evidence that proves my point. And it's starring at you in the face. In the Champion's Ballad expansion pack, we see a memory for Urbosa's song. It shows Urbosa yet again fighting some Yiga foot soldiers. But did you notice something? Not the lightning. The parry. For one Yiga, when he went forward to strike Urbosa, she parried him just in time. And yes, time slowed down, just like it did with Link. So therefore, if Urbosa could do that, then she could most likely preform the fury rush as well. This brings up the question: is there a connection between Link and Urbosa? I mean, if it's just a skill, that's kind of unlikely because like you said in your video: "The king wouldn't just choose some random knight to protect someone as important as his daughter."If it was a skill, than many people would know it. And how the king of Hyrule chose Link as Zelda's knight was that Link parried a guardian's lazer right back at it's eye, like Urbosa did with the Yiga. I do hope you push this theory further, that would be cool. Thanks! P.S: I'm a twelve year old :)

I think the attacks are just for flares and looks, a gameplay with the cannon moveset of link and zelda from that period of time would've been really lackluster and plain, zelda didn't battle at all, I think that the story mode will be paired coherently with the characters so if that's the case I think Zelda will be playable in the final chapters... I think the storyline will be like this... - It will start with overworld enemies attack - Impa is revealed to be the one who tells the king about the prophecy - Zelda in a hurry tells her father her idea and will suggest to search the ancient technology with the help of her left-hand/friend, Impa and her best soldier, link - they dig the technology and divine beast - The King order them to reclute the new champions - the "champions" (who have not yet won the title in a formal way) meet their respective divine beasts and they bond with them as they pilot - the stories and battles from the champions diaries and memories transpire - the King orders Zelda to fullfil her mission - maybe a chapter like escort missions where you protect zelda while she goes to the springs - the shit hits the fan, the chapters that are later are the events that transpires when the columns rise... The champions demise, where you play as them fighting against the blights inside the divine beasts and Link against the guardians in the field, you win the missiond but eventually the game puts a sike on you and they kill everyone -side mission with impa and the sheikas taking link to the shrine of resurrection -the final chapters are: Zelda taking the sword to the lost woods, going to hyrule castle and fighting a primal form of calamity ganon (maybe the egg gets corrupted and that's calamity ganon) -the ending is a scene like a LIGHT of hope with the highlight shining upon BOTW and BOTW2 That's what I think, I might be really wrong but hey! I'm not an expert I'M FREAKING HYPED FOR THIS GAME!!! I love the dynasty warriors type of games, their stories never disappoint me 💕✨💕✨💕

Yes, do an Age of Calamity Timeline video--for SEO mention BOTW & backstory or prequel in the title: Here's the thing, I'm personally hyped to play a zelda warriors game, but not all Zelda fans I'd guess might like the Warriors action heavy gameplay style. It would be huge service to the more "Adventure" based audiences that like the exploring, story, &/or puzzle elements that may drop off Age of Calamity. I think this game will span a few years, split into arcs. The first arc will be about selecting the Champions. The initial monster attack probably has nothing to do with Calamity Ganon. The monsters will attack different regions with each of the Champions proving to be strong fighters. Then there will be a time skip to when they uncover the guardians and divine beasts. Then another time skip to when Calamity Ganon makes his move.

Even if Link obtained the Master Sword at 12, going by OoT lore he would still need to wait a few years before he could properly wield it. Maybe after the king witnesses him fighting in the first few battles he tells Link he is ready for it.
