This is the one of the two times Nirvana played Reading that should have been professionally recorded. Much more energy from the band, Eugene from The Vaselins came on stage to sing along on a cover of their song, and they had a frigging interpret dancer named Tony. In my modest opinion, NO ONE has ever reached or surpassed this damn wrecking creative distorted universal sound, that level of immediate “face to face” expression, freestyle approach to dogmatic state of mind. Kurt’s “cryptic” lyrics reveal the soul making it “naked” & so it resonates unwaveringly indomitably strong like a spiritual riffle which leaves you without a breath and words. I’ve been listening to them for years and literally nothing has ever changed in my perception of this unique and very influential band. I can almost recognize their chords, rhythm sections and vocal parts in many alternative bands worldwide. From Seattle to Moldavia. ❤Awesome indeed. And I’m so happy about it. ✨💫

+Noiretirc Four words: SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT
@news4usunshine9 жыл бұрын
***** What you personally think of the song is immaterial. The fact remains that Smells Like Teen Spirit was a MONSTER hit that elevated Nirvana from just another Seattle grunge band into a global phenomenon. It did so because it was a great and incredibly catchy song. The fact that Nirvana also had many other great songs is irrelevant. SLTS is the one that made them.

+Noire For the same reason that I once in about '90 took Bleach to a party attended by straight people, who told me, and I quote: ``Get that shit off.'' I didn't. Then Nevermind came out - great LP - and everybody, including no doubt some of those same straight people, bought it.

Just graduated High School 1990. I always wished I had grown up in the 60s because all of my heros Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Iommi, Howe...all came out of that era...I had no idea that I was living through the last great movement in Rock, and in a small way, was a part of it. The 90s were so great on so many levels...it's all just shit now. Literally everything.

Such a troubled mind, such a beautiful and creative mind. It took all our anger from our hard to fit teenage years and filtered it into shout and music. I was fortunate to be part of it, to dance to nonsense, to sing, jump and push all over to feel part of a universe that unveiled ahead of me. It was wonderful, I enjoyed every second of my troubled teenage years, thank you Kurt.

Thank you Alternative Copperpot5 for providing this little-heard/seen performance, before Nirvana had hit the bigtime and headlined the following year at Reading. They're still thrilled here, great showmanship all around. Nice. "You're in high school again, you're on acid again". Drain You has no Scream! What lyrics is Kurt singing with Eugene Kelly? It's certainly not "kiss kiss Molly's lips", something else not in sync with Kelly. And I hear Kurt singing Smells as "Our little *group* has always been / And always will until the end". Later live performances he consistently sings it as "tribe" rather than "group", almost as if he's already missing the "smaller" life they'd had together as the more intimate "tribe". Kurt gets his Love Buzz groove on with the crowd. Then it was Attack Dave night! Great concert, gems dropped everywhere. :>)

I was at this festival in 91, and saw this live, I think it was around midday and it was a great set. I'd been collecting Sub Pop records and bought Bleach on really limited green vinyl a while before, no-one had heard of them. I thought, yeah this band is going be be huge. So when they announced they were playing Reading had to get a ticket. Not long after this festival, Smells Like Teen Spirit came out and they were huge. I remember Kurt jumping into the drum kit at the end - great ending but wow, it looked painful.

Considering the fact that Nevermind hadn't even come out yet and Nirvana had only been playing nightclubs & universities up to this point, they had to have been mentally wigging out up on stage playing to such a gigantic crowd. Crowds they'd eventually outgrow all on their own as the headliners for their own individual tours, who wouldn't need a festival in order to play to such enormous crowds.
