I have a new frontier and it gets over 20mpg. I traded in a 2021 Ranger xlt and it never got more than 19mpg. I really enjoy the steering its not loose and all over the road like most of Fords trucks. This truck also is way more comfortable than a Tacoma for a long road trips.

I have watched your review about four times. Mainly because you’re the only one who shows the SV trim. I own an old 4wd Toyota that will remain my off road crawler. I’m not gonna drop 44 grand on a new truck and then drive it through the brush, rocks, and woods. For me, The SV trim with the upgrade premium package makes the most sense. Great review.

Excellent review, Alex! Having owned 2 Frontiers and a Tacoma in the past, I would definitely choose this over the Tacoma. In fact, I hated my Tacoma. It was uncomfortable, drove like sh*t and the chassis vibrations drove me nuts. I got rid of it after just a year. However, I have always enjoyed my Frontiers as the reliable, capable, durable, affordable trucks that they are. That said, I definitely wouldn't say this new Frontier still offers the same value as before. I purchased a well equipped 2016 Pro4X for $34k while the new Pro4X starts at $38k with no options, so when compared to the competition that previous value is almost gone. Also, there are quite a few annoyances in this new truck... no telescoping steering wheel, lots of hard plastic, dumb location for offroad controls (down by left knee), pricey option packages, it's not really all new, etc. That said, I'll probably still buy a Pro4X next year because it is now the best overall midsize truck available, in my opinion. I just wish Nisan had gone a bit further to truly modernize this truck, especially considering how long they waited to do a redesign. Who knows when the next one will be...

I agree with your assessment. If I decide to go with a mid-size pickup (daily drivability and size) over half-ton truck (better tow capability), the Nissan Frontier would be on my Top 3 list. I am a Ridgeline fan. I also learned to drive on a 1968 Jeep J-10 full-sized Gladiator pickup truck, so I am intrigued with the Gladiator. As a business proposition, if I were in charge of any vehicle manufacturer, there is one thing I would do above all else, and that would be to go ALL IN on front seat comfort. Whatever else I had to sacrifice to remain price competitive, I would do it, because I feel that aside from having a good and reliable drivetrain, there is nothing more important than the seat you are going to be spending every hour of ownership sitting on.

I agree. I’m currently in a 2020 Ford Explorer and they are some of the most comfortable seats I’ve been in (in non luxury vehicles). They are firm but soft and hug the body well and at 6 ft tall my legs are supported as is my back with the lumbar support. So many vehicles I have tried I’m comfortable for a half hour or so and then my back starts to hurt. Front seat comfort should be a big priority

As a diehard Toyota truck owner - The new Frontier is the Tacoma that Toyota should have produced. I hate the current Tacoma. The drive train is a wreck and the seating position is terrible. I towed a 3,500lb trailer twice from AZ to CA in the current Tacoma. The transmission NEVER stopped shifting. Even on a level interstate with cruse control on. On the way back we had no trailer attached and it continued to relentlessly shift. That, and I felt like I was sitting on the floor with my legs straight out. Very uncomfortable. I am super excited about the new Frontier. These trucks have an exceptional reliability track record and the price is right. Looks like Nissan hit a home run on this one.

In the exclusive dog comfort index this gets a 4 out of 10. The back floor is fairly small and the sub woofer takes up most of the left side. While chihuahuas and Pomeranians will be comfortable, Labrador Retrievers and German Shepherds will fine the back area rather cramped.

I'm definitely upgrading to the newer Frontier when they become available. The Ford Maverick just isn't my thing as they just make me feel dirty with their cheapness. I'll take a Pro X any day over a Pro 4X as not all of us need four wheel drive and the extra cost associated with it.

The Maverick looks like a throw away truck after 3 - 4 years. Beware of ALL small engines made high HP by adding a turbo, usually about 60 - 65 thousand miles the engine will blow, and getting an overhaul nowadays means getting more trouble as most can't do it correctly.

Buy the time you do the add on options to the SV model if you want a 6' bed you may as well buy a Ram 1500 for the same money and get better options, full size truck and no Direct Injection engine.

Would always buy a Toyota, BUT the T. Tacoma engine is so Weak in the 4 and 6 cylinder (the new Toyota engine with Atkinson cycle to save gas is terrible)(the old 4.0L engine on the Toyota was better) , I test drove the new Nissan engine 3.8L in the 2020 model with the new 9 speed transmission and it was fast but the truck kept trying to shift gear to save gas and make the drive jerk, hopefully in the 2022 model Nissan gave it a sport or power button to stop the transmission from changing gears all the time to save gas, stop it from jerking, but the truck was way faster than a Toyota Tacoma v6 and powertrain felt better. (question is do I buy a Toyota that will run forever with just oil and fluid changes, or a Nissan that has been going through so many reliability issue and crazy new management but has more power (and I think the Nissan looks better too) )

They had a SV, 4X4 and a SV, 4X2 both with cloth interior. BOY! talk about sticker shock. The 4x4 was $42,450 and the 4x2 was $38,450 Don't think so !!!

no body on frame , well that stinks ! Wish we could have seen the 6 foot bed as well. I am very proud of them for not going with a turbo charged 4 cylinder. I dont know about you but anyone i know wants a TRUCK . That means V8 V6 naturally aspirated no turbo , a low amount of electronics . im totally fine with 20 mpg. If it had a v4 turbo with 30 mpg i would hate it. I do wish we would stay with simple 6 speed transmission as well. But all in all they did a good job with this truck .
