Richard Hatch will forever be the optimistic, heroic leader that a young boy can’t help but look up to and strive to emulate. Lorne Greene has such presence and charisma .... a natural father figure and leader. A man with a solid character and natural dignity. A good man. America needs men like these two today.

I can't understand how or why anyone would consider the original BSG "ridiculous." It wasn't into deep social problems, true, but that doesn't equate to such extreme characterization. It was a fun action-adventure show with a great mythology and some of the finest TV actors in the industry. While the new series is more serious and handles things in a more adult way, it definitely lacks the charm and spirit of the original.

😔.... Just a simple remembrance & attempt to commemorate the works of the endeared & much beloved actor Richard Hatch. A fantastic actor & one I'll remember well past the "good ol' days" of television. May u find peace & serenity in the stars that you made more aware to all of us.

The old Battlestar Galactica special effects may not compare to new CGI graphics but they were groundbreaking at the time, and they still hold up decently to me. The fight scenes needed more new/different ones is all. I like the original BG and Star Wars better than the new ones! They and the actors have more charm to me. Lorne Greene was such a great actor, a perfect Adama. Richard Hatch as Apollo too. They all were great! Lines for the females could`ve been better though in some scenes.

these people mean so much to me kinda like family, cause i grew up seeing them as much as my family.exept they took my mind to a place that was safe and gave me a sense of passion for sifi like star wars.but we were so poor in 1978-79 that tv was all we had,so shows like charlies angels, hart to hart, buck rogers, and battlestar galltica were all i needed...and still do.

Imagine how great this show COULD'VE been if abc had done the show the way Larson wanted to do it. As 2 hour movies But abc grreenlighted it for a weekly tv show. There was little time to develop the characters or come up with solid scripts. If you notice the 2 part episodes were much better than the single episodes. If they had done the movies THEN a weekly show there's no doubt the show would've stayed on tv longer been considered one of tvs finest ground breaking shows

I watched every episode of the old show -- even the abominable, non-canon "Galactica 1980" -- for a writing gig some years ago. Still have them on VHS, in fact. There were moments of absolute brilliance, and moments so ridiculous you wondered how they got filmed. And that said, the original still had a power and presence completely lacking in the mystical-magical allegory of the reboot.

I always liked the original series better. I recall seeing it as a child and then later as a teen on the original Sci-Fi channel. The new one is good, but I prefer the characters on the original show and the original show itself. As a black child I was always a Boomer fan on the original and on the new one Boomer is an Asian female. Granted, an attractive Asian female, but ...different than the original.

Maren Jensen was exquisite...just stunning to watch on the show. Read she is happily living in private life with kids. Good for her. She was a beauty to watch as Athena.Suspect she is just as beautiful now after all these years. BTW Grace Park who also plays Sharon/Athena on the remake BSG is gorgeous..Just saw her on Five 0...she looks fantastic after having a kid. Something about playing Athena gets beautiful and talented women cast in a great role. :)

anyone notice that the " medallion " being held by Adama, is also the " 25th Century " equivalent of the Cross used by Buck Rogers against the Vorvon / energy vampire?... in fact, a lot of the sets from the Original B.G. were used in Buck Rogers. Check the walls, bulkheads, and fighter launch scenes.

The main difference between Old and New BSG boils down to this: On the Sliding Scale of Idealism vs Cynicism, Old-BSG is way on the idealist side, while New-BSG is way on the other. New BSG is 'darker and edgier', and goes for a more realistic, morally gray atmosphere. I think both shows are good for different reasons and enjoy them equally. When new BSG gets too depressing, I brighten my day with the old show. =D

I really loved this show, what bothers me is it never had a true ending, it could have run for several more years and ended with them finding the true 13th tribe which was farther in deep space and more advanced than even the galactica was, it could have even turned into a fantastic movie, in the end the galactica with the help of the 13th tribes would have defeated the cylon empire..

Sci fi shows never got a fair chance on network tv( Star Trek, Buck Rogers, BSG). Even if the show had returned for a second season, they would have had massive budget cuts, a trim down cast and cheaper made episodes( See Galactica 1980) and then been cancel anyway. At least they ended on a high note with "Hand of God" episode.

@jesman1 Yes. In 1977, they used the absolute latest in special effects technology to make BSG. The cost came to about 1 million per episode. That was unheard of for television. But, since Star Trek, then Star Wars, the network execs must have finally realized that sci-fi shows were worth putting big money into.

I do miss the presences of Anne Lockhart and Jane Seymour, both beautiful actresses who found no real equivalent in the 2004 series. However, I don't find the new BSG series lacking in any other respect. Both are awesome, but for different reasons. It's like the neverending internet war between fans of JRR Tolkien and those of GRR Martin. Some people can appreciate both, but there will always be those who can't resist taking potshots at whichever one they consider inferior. The internet can be like that (P.S. my crushes in the original show weren't Lockhart and Seymour. I was far more interested in Sarah Rush and Laurette Spalding.

Herb Jefferson had a similar view and so do I. I watched it for two years and gave up. It was morose, plodding and the characters were just involving. I could have cared less if they lived or died. As for Katie's interpretation of Starbuck, she played it as a tomboy/asshole and it didn't work. Dirk had charm and whimsy with his portrayal, a disarming quality that was immediately appealing. As for strong female characters, I always refer to Anne Lockhart. She was an ace pilot, sure in combat yet soft and compassionate away from duty. She showed that you could still be feminine yet strong.

The original has only a few things going for it. 1. Nostalgia. This is 80% of its advantage. I was a kid in the 1970's, and I WANTED that BSG to be better. 2. *COMMANDER* Cain. *He* was gung-ho and slightly nuts, like Patton, but not a psychopath, like his female re-imagining. I hate what the new series did to that character. 3. A certain weird creepiness that was part of the 1970's, when Bigfoot and the Bermuda Triangle had just been "discovered" and everything seemed possible. OK, this overlaps strongly with nostalgia, but it's more than mere familiarity. It's the same thing that can be found in the old "In Search Of..." episodes.

I got tired of all the fighting amongst themselves in the reimagined series. Many times I think the colonialists were doing bad things and I actually sided more with the cylon belief system, and way of thinking in the new one. I liked the reimagined series, but the story left me somewhat unsatisfied, especially the final episode.

Yeah I thought they actually got what they deserved and was hoping that get wiped out so it could end. Completely soulless people, basically where we headed now.

I like the old Star Wars way better than the new ones. But, I like the new BSG way better than the old one. It's not about the age, it's about the quality and innovation. And in my opinion the new bsg wins in this catergory.

I couldn't take Him serious , after seeing Him all those years with a cowboy outfit , that episode where they find that planet that holds the way to Earth where Jane Seymour dies was a good episode . The show was okay , but each week We expected to be cancelled cuz it cost so much , then Lucas tried to sue them. Back then this was the only science fiction show , after Buck Rogers was cancelled, only Detective shows were on , and 3's company which I liked

Hey, in defence of 1980 it just needed better writing. If it had more Cylon involvement it would have rocked and maybe Cain returning in the Pegasus to initiate a battle with the Cylons blitzing them would have drawn the non believers back.....
