Heartfelt vid. Hits my childhood. Being from Virginia, I've caught/released tons of Eastern kings. One of my favs. In Va, I caught the majority of my Eastern kings around sandy, marsh, pine areas. My buddy and I caught our 1st corn in Stratford Co. , Manassas, Va. and nearly lost our minds. The adrenaline, the fact of actually catching a corn snake was the highlight of our lives. Amazing and hits so many memories. Living just outside of Seattle, Wa. sucks. No animals to speak of. We had fox, raccoons, deer, snakes, lizards, you name it. We had it. Just wanted to say thanks for an incredible video of herpin on the East side.

Nice corn snake, I much prefer the colour and markings of a wild corn snake to the mixture of morphs that are bred in captivity.

There's a lot of reptile diversity in USA. If you did that in my country you'd be more likely to find a gecko, tree frog or biacco. The keeled lizard is one of my favourites. We don't have venomous snakes here in Sardinia as far as I know

My nephew and I love to flip tin wood etc. I live in upstate NY. In the western part of NY we found a secluded field with a bunch of tin. We go there from time to time we have found a couple 5 lined skinks. The usual garters, dekays, milkshakes, banded water snakes... sidenote: this field is near water. On 2 separate occasions though we found a copperhead and a massasuga. RARE finds in this part of NY!! I used to find cornsnakes here in NY but haven't seen one in years.

Obviously (and thank you for this), you show primarily the exciting parts of your excursions. But I'd be interested in knowing how long an excursion takes. Here, you show two kings and a corn snake in about 13 minutes of video. But here in western PA, I've traipsed around in a state park for a couple of hours or more w/o seeing any herps. I am nowhere near as familiar as you with what to look for (and I suspect my eyes are nowhere near as sharp as yours), but I am curious - how many hours of searching and flipping did it take to make the 13 minutes of video? I enjoy your stuff. Thanks.

It’s hard to include that in a video while keeping it entertaining, but this particular video was filmed over the course of an entire day. Maybe I’ll include time stamps in the future?

Of all the snake species commonly kept as pets the corn snake hands down is the best pet snake. They do better than any other species commonly kept. They are the easiest snake to breed. They eat very well and they actually seem to enjoy being handled unlike most other snakes. Even wild individuals settle into captivity and start eating within a week even though I personally wouldn't look for wild corn snakes as pets. Especially since you can just buy them captive bred. One of my past corn snakes lived to be 27 years old.

I'd say there's a non-zero chance these videos will cause my death... after watching a heap of them, I'm starting to feel like maybe I could head out to the local wilderness and start looking for snakes... Being Australian, though, there's a pretty good chance I'd find something truly deadly. That said, all the snakes I've seen in recent years have been perfectly harmless, either carpet pythons or green tree snakes. But I'm sure I could find something more dangerous if I went looking... Who am I kidding, I don't have the guts :P
