YES!! MINE TOO and even women skin colour is trending throughout time. In the 30s and 40s you’d have to be extremely skinny with no a$$ and bo0b$ then came the 50s it was the chubby hourglass till the 60s (you needed to be pale), in the 70s skinny but not too skinny came in trend, in the 80s and 90s it was the heroin chick trend (pale skin was a must) where you need to be extremely skinny to the point of anorexia and having a rectangular body, same thing with the early 2000s (tan skin was trendy), then came the 2010-2014 Tumblr era which affected me a lot with the Victoria Secret model’s body trends. The 2015-2018 trend (everyone wanted to be black) where you needed to have a tiny waist with big a$$ and b0ob$, slim fat. And in East and South Asia you have to be extremely pale, while in the western world is tanning. Let’s not forget that if you’re ‘ugly’ you’ll be treated bad and if you’re ‘attractive’ you’ll also be treated bad.

Being real --- this is just as hard & just as glib as "insert beauty standard here'. Where's the magic button for me to press so I "love myself"? Like you're talking about something that can be a lifelong struggle for people, for whatever reasons, & we can spend as much money on the tools to learn to love ourselves as we do on beauty stuff. I agree we should "love ourselves" but I feel like we skip a million steps when we present that as a solution for societal disorders. I'd like to see more pragmatic solutions for how to get to loving ourselves. I want everyone in the world to have everything they need to feel good & I want everyone who isn't hurting other people to accept themselves, but maybe the world has to start being more accepting + loving to all of us, maybe we all need to be loving + accepting towards each other (if we're not hurting others). Maybe we shouldn't be putting the full force of fighting the culture on our individual shoulders.

One thought I had a day later is that some of my feeling ugly doesn't just come from seeing others on social media but the own digitization of my face. Like I can look at myself in a mirror and think I look decently attractive but then as soon I take a photo it warps it. The one trend I actually did like online was the one showing people's faces from up close vs far away and zoomed in as it showed that camera angles can change how your face looks. But I have yet to master taking great photos so I often end up internalizing my bad photos rather than the good ones. My 'good' photo is back camera mirror selfie but I feel like I'm cat fishing when I use those! So stepping off media and tech can still help with that. Trust the mirror, not just your camera etc.

Also I used to think that everyone who existed had hip dips haha. I thought people were photoshopping them out for a more cartoony look! Every art model I ever drew had hip dips so they became ingrained in my mind as standard anatomy (plus I have hip dips too). They are my favorite part to draw. I always emphasize the hip dips because I think they look so graceful. I was shocked when I learned that people in general don't like them 😮

It's ok, you just need to consciously wean yourself off those things too - read books, go to museums or art galleries, consume content from people who aren't there to sell you a skin care product or influence you into feeling bad about yourself. Look up comedians, poets, scientists, historians, artists. You'll feel so much better about yourself, and open yourself up to tons of new interests. Good luck, you can do this!

With Pinterest I create inspiration boards or use it for when I play the sims 4. For KZbin I only use it to watch content creators who have the same interests as me and I unsubscribed to people who make me feel less than. glass skin is in reality just the way fresh skin cells look when not covered by bacteria and dead cells. imitating that by putting on shiny oily substances is the scam thats used to make money off it. all you gotta do is 1-get adequate daily nutrition 2-use a loofah on your skin when you shower, scrub with intent, you are basically sanding the dead cells and bacteria out of your skin. 3- dont drink alcohol or put substances on your skin, they'll cause mass cell death or cover the new cells up. thats literally it. just dont be weird and live cleanly. fresh skin cells have a transparent look to them

It is so crazy how my mentality of “you are not good enough” changed to “I may not be perfect, but I see myself beautifully”. I had such severe acne that I couldn’t even sleep properly... my face hurt if it came into contact with anything. I took acnecutane for 9 months, it was a difficult time. my psyche went to hell, my hair fell out, my hormones were raging, and depression began. when I saw annoying people with perfect skin who began to teach me what to do with my “ugly face”, I just wanted to fall into the ground... I’ve already tried everything in the world, my house is more like a cosmetics store: cleansing gels, serums , creams, peelings, acids. “I’m on pills,” I said and they looked with judgment. Everything is fine now, I'm cured! but my skin is still prone to acne. Celebrities are not the norm; that's why people like models are chosen in fashion because they're only naturally like 10% of the population. No one over 25 takes the Kardashians seriously or want to be them...same reason why people watch America's Funniest Videos: entertainment.

Glass skin in real life is often over exfoliated and plasticized, speaking as an esthetician. You can damage your barrier overusing products. Cleanse, tone, moisturize are pretty much standard steps. My skin doesn't have acne now because I'm in my 30s but I wanted to chime in for anyone struggling with acne or feeling bad that they can't afford a cabinet full of expensive product.

Today I learned hip dips is 'problem' apparently? The fact I learned it from this video shows me I have no reason to go back to social media. My SO looooves them and even points it out from time to time, and that is all I need in my life. I'm good!

All social media is bad for your mental health and it’s getting worse. I deleted everything. I do love your channel you are such a well spoken gorgeous girl ❤

I recently went to Japan and was surprised at the effect that going to the onsen (public baths/springs) had on me. I'd never been in a sitiation to see other women naked, not being sexualized, not posing and worrying what they look like, just going about their day and taking time to relax. It felt good to realize that we are all different and share many similar features too. It was like a spiritual experience.

THANK YOU! That comment at the end about how the people who are setting the beauty standard aren't even able to achieve it... I'm going to be using that FOREVER because you are so right!

Picking apart people just feels icky. Beauty standards do change over time. To many people, the most beautiful person from the Victorian era just isn't beautiful by today's standards. It also depends on the person on what they find attractive. I've never really noticed if someone is extremely beautiful or extremely ugly; mostly I just think, "It's a person. No big deal". Even on tiktok or celebrities, this isn't something I care about or notice.

My mom was known as one of the most beautiful people in her small town while growing up in the 60s/70s. She is now approaching 70 and looks 20 years younger than that and is still beautiful, and she doesn't even have a beauty routine. People have also told me that I was also beautiful growing up, and I look a lot like my mom. My confidence still tanked in my late teens/early 20s though because of social media. I realized that I looked nothing like the type of face that is algorithmically pushed online with these girls who have millions of followers. I started to think like, "If I don't look like them, is that a problem? Am I really beautiful if I don't fit their mold?" I recognize my negative thoughts now, and looking back it is truly amazing how much social media was able to poison my mind in this way, pulling my focus away from those around me who loved me and whose opinions were the only ones that actually mean anything. At the end of the day, these people on social media have never seen or met me, never actually judged me, and I was judging myself, incorrectly at that. They are on there because it makes them money, and I won't keep letting greed get in way of accepting myself.

Girl you're speaking facts. Thank you for reminding us not to conform to the unrealistic beauty standards set up by these so-called "Tiktok and IG influencers".

The glass skin trend was actually a very popular term and trend in Korea WAYYY before tiktok picked up on it.
