She ended up in assisted living a few months later, and she had been independent, kept a very neat home, cooked every day, liked cooking for others. I'm so sorry your mother went through that. That must have been heartbreaking to watch. There are strips for urine testing that are 50 strips for $20 that might have alerted your mother, but she would have needed help to analyze the strip. Dear Dr.Liu, I have many bushes of black raspberries growing around my property. They were there when I moved in about eight years ago. They require no care except possibly pulling out the weeds occasionally. I am an organic gardener anyway, so not having to fuss with them is a benefit for me, as I have arthritis which makes it uncomfortable to keep bending up and down constantly. They are relatively pest-free! Amazing and wonderful. So, when I walk about in summer I just pop them into my mouth and enjoy 😊 If you are ever in upstate New York (Baldwinsville 13027) please come and pick them for free…it’d be a very small offering for all the wonderful information you share with us so kindly 👍🏻😊🙏🏻I also have many young shoots in the Spring you can have. They spread like wildfire, and produce their berries the second year. Maybe they would grow for you too. They like the semi-shade of tree lines, as those thicker types that divide homeowners land delineations. They don’t want full sun. They also don’t like very dry land. Mine grow in areas that are moist; wet, in fact, in the spring, then drying out more into the summer. Well anyway, thanks so much for the advice…it’s really very important information! 😊👍🏻🙏🏻

I got her to start eating again with mostly liquid food and some porridge. She still recognize me and interact with people fairly normally but not quite able to related the facts when challenged with questions. Call my brother her grandson. Thanks for the excellent content. A minor correction, is that at 5:50 you say that your mother would get tired of the insects, and spray with Roundup. Roundup was used as a weed killer. It does not kill insects. Regarding the exercise that fish get from constant swimming, my son, who plays video games, told me a funny story last weekend. Apparently, in the game Dwarf Fortress, they made some update that caused animals to level up in strength based on physical activity. Before long, the carp became super-powerful (because they were always swimming), and took over the world.

@@boonkiepup I'm not sure what this comment has to do with my post. Nevertheless, that would be my absolute last choice for a diet. I have prostate cancer, and meat in your diet makes prostate cancer grow significantly faster, so a carnivore diet would reduce my life expectancy by many years. Even if that were not true, a carnivore diet would be torture as I love all vegetables, and have no particular fondness for meat. I do eat a few servings of meat a week for the protein.

Thanks for your videos. Black Raspberries. I've lived & hiked in Western Washington for 70 years & have never heard of Black Raspberries. A quick search & I found they are what we call Blackcaps or Thimbleberries. They are found wild in the hills, but also can be found at some local fruit stands. They have a very short ripening window & don't last long in the fridge. They are tart & generally used in jams, & pies & perhaps a mixed salad with some sweetness to offset them. How much less anthocyanin do blackberries, black currants & blueberries have - fruits I grow? I could not find quantitative info in a Google search.

We never wear our outside shoes, inside the home. We have a mud room where we take off our outside shoes (we have several shoe racks, we have a large family). There is a large container of antibacterial wipes and a container of baby wipes that we wipe down our outdoor shoes there and then on the racks they go. We can either walk barefoot in the home or we have our slippers or indoor sandles (only worn indoors) to change into. We have roombas that run twice a day. We have no area rugs in the house, it's all beautiful wood floors, so the roombas go easily around. We do have pets and their paws are wiped everytime they come back indoors. The rag rugs that are in the mud room get changed everynight. By the end of the week, we have a load for the laundry. I make the rag rugs from old cotton sheets, old jeans, or old cotton shirts. Have been doing that for years. The windows get opened everyday to get the old air out and the new air in. We do not live in a city, we are in the country... we have a homestead. We do have hospital grade uv hepa filters in our home and 2 in our barn as well. We know even though we have lots of trees on our property that clean the air and we have indoor plants that clean the air as well... but you never know. Thanks for all your very helpful info!

Thanks! I have a parent and their sibling with this. Trying to lower my own chances. I'm already noticing some occasional forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating and understanding, and general spacey-ness. I'm hoping there is still time for me to reverse myself. I'm probably 10 years away from my parent's age when they first started worrying about their own condition. But they ate poorly, fast food and cheap restaurants, junk food, etc.

Aronia berries grow very well in the PNW (and elsewhere). They combine well with blueberries. They are perhaps the highest in anthocyanins. Powders are also available. Elderberries, and evergreen huckleberries also grow well in the PNW.

Thank you! What a wonderful video. I’ve been wondering how I’ve stayed relatively healthy while friends I’ve grown up with have not. I eat 85% of what you listed since childhood. Blueberries and Blackberries grew wild in my backyard and I snacked on them regularly. My Grandfather used garlic in the house cooking almost everyday. Thank you again for this video!

Turmeric is highly healthful BUT most of it that is easily found is full of heavy metals. You must find organic turmeric , preferably locally grown, in bulb form, and grate it yourself. The thing about eating healthy and being healthy is that you must spend the time to be healthy; eating at home means making your own food so you know that you are eating well, and that the ingredients are good. The only spices that were found to be "clean" of heavy metals for the most part in a recent study were McCormick and Simply organic made by Frontier. Being healthy takes thought, planning, and time, and willing yourself to do what it takes. If you can't do it for yourself, do it for those you love like this nice Doctor who is doing it for her kids.

Put a Step app on your phone this can track your steps which also equals miles per day / week. Now walking is good but be careful if you have a pre-existing injury as walking to fast or up hills can re-injure such and injury. Walking in ok in moderation and not too fast.

The only way that I see possible to see whether something is effective is not as much by observing the person’s diet, but to study the same person before and after changing their diet. Changing one’s diet can be a very traumatic process, especially for older people. It shouldn’t start on their plates, but in the minds.

I loss my dad a couple of months ago. He had dementia. As you were sharing your story about your mom, it sounded like you were talking about my dad. My mom has been showing signs of dementia as well. I'm in my 50's and I'm not sure if it's from all the stress of being my dad's caretaker but I'm noticing I'm forgetting things. Scary! I have to change my eating habits and choose your recommendations. Thanks!

I would read packaging instructions, and be starting with one per day. Turmeric is also a main ingredient in curry. So it is food at the same time, as very helpful.

I would advise everyone to investigate houseplants. NASA published a list detailing which plant absorbed the most chemicals found in the home, palm plants dominate the list, as well as taking in toxic chemicals from furnishings, floor coverings and paints, they also pump out oxygen 24/7. This list names the toxic chemicals the plants absorb.
