I've never was a big fan of streaming my movies. I always preferred physical media because of its superior A/V quality, and you don't have to worry about the internet service being down, and your movies and TV shows disappearing from your catalog, because they've been pulled by the platform for whatever reason.

I'm a big physical media advocate. I've been building my library since the mid-80s. I've been telling people for more than a decade that purchasing digital media doesn't mean you own it and that they can and do remove things that you've purchased. Still, there's a reason that Netflix put the entire home video rental industry out of business. The streaming model itself is not what's failing. The content that they're putting out is what's destroying them. Removing classic 90s animation and replacing it with things like Velma is a prime example. Streaming services like Night Flight Plus and Full Moon Streaming are thriving and growing. Full Moon Features now has three streaming services. They just added Delirium Streaming, based on their magazine. Some big studios are catching on and starting to see better quality movies and series doing really well. If Willow had the reaction and views that Fallout has had so far, it wouldn't have been used as a tax write-off. My question is, "Will they change their formula fast enough before they start writing off beloved classics or some of the good new stuff that doesn't get a physical media release?" The clock is ticking.

@UnconformedMedia I'd say that if streaming is having to offer themselves to cable companies as a bundle with competing streaming services AND have advertisements AND are having to cut content, erase content from the earth in order to recoup money, and constantly raise prices, yeah that is a failing model... @@AVAPopCulture I said that they ARE failing, but it's not because of the streaming model itself. It's the poor quality of content, focusing on quantity instead, and not giving consumers what they want that is creating a failing business model. Big studios are failing at the streaming model. Smaller labels are using a different business model on the streaming platform to thrive and grow. Arrow isn't losing money. Full Moon's growing more now than it has in decades. Kino Lorber just recently started another streaming platform. No complaints from Troma. Notice that all of these mentioned are also continuing to produce physical releases. These companies are making customers happy and streaming successfully because of it.

My music teacher in 7th grade got me hooked on it. That and West side story strangely enough. I saw that they have alien Romulus steelbook on orbit. It's sold out on Amazon and was going for $65 so I bought it on eBay for like 55 bucks plus shipping which is crazy but I wanted to grab it before it became like a hundred bucks like the original alien steelbook that's out there which is highway robbery. Now I see it on orbit for 46 bucks. Ha. Just goes to show you. You never know about what's going to sell out and then what's going to be back in stock.

streaming/digital sux. Its downward spiral you mention is like circling the toilet bowl. I'm rolling with physical media CDs, DVDs, BDs & hardcover books til the end! I also believe it's important for us to continue to support the players. For example, BD/DVD players, small music systems that will play CDs, external USB drives for computers, game consoles that feature the disc drive built in etc. Even if you don't necessarily need them yourself right now, offer them as gifts to family, friends, and co-workers. Maybe with a 15$ gift card to purchase a new movie (and a new HDMI cable if the player doesnt include). I see a new DVD player on amzn is only 35$ with BD being about 75$ with Indy I'd argue the only films worth owning are Raiders & Last Crusade

... And I'm sure we've all been there where you see a movie streaming and it's there forever. Then, the one day you decide to watch it... poof! I can't stand streaming services. I keep a couple around because they are convenient for my wife and children, but oh man. Also, I didn't realize how far streaming went with editing, etc. I watched Halloween (2007 - don't judge me) on Prime last night and it had all of these fades in the film like you were about to see a commercial. I'm assuming they edited it because there were definitely scenes missing. And then the credits rolled in like 30 seconds flat, at superspeed. What a joke! Thanks for keeping us posted on the absurdity of streaming, Chase!

100% they are editing stuff out that is currently considered offense etc etc...what is worse than putting fades in is where they use AI to change spoken lines in movies....they always want to crap on the end credits too in order to skip to a "watch next" window or something.... I have the services I have that come with stuff and I use them for try before you buy but as a model, they have reached the end of their growth potential so now it is a shell game with content, prices, ads, etc etc

Sandpaper Picture just re-release Blame it On Rio on blu-ray which was an OOP bluray for a long time going for $100. I think they are a MOD company re-release OOP times back on blu-ray. My Blame It On Rio Sandpaper blu-ray looks fantastic & on a 50gb disc. So this Sleepaway Camp 2 is a day one for me

Streaming is just as bad if not worse than cable. They keep raising the fees on streaming platforms and most are really hit and miss. They edit films and remove them at their choosing. Physical media is the way to go. You can't rely on streaming for your movie watching.

I have Netflix (ad-supported) and Apple TV+ since they're part of my cellular plan. I only get Shudder when "The Last Drive-In" comes out with new content. Looks like Sandpiper picked up licenses Olive films dropped when they went under, the have some agreement with MGM. The same way olive scooped up twilight time’s stuff. Speculation online because of what they have licenses to release vs what TT and Olive had prior.

Disney and other movie and tv studios are losing so much money on streaming that they don't know what they're doing. the changing distribution of physical media is bad enough but changing distribution of digital media is becoming a much bigger and more expensive pain in the ass when digital media services are losing viewers, money, and causing all kinds of headaches. people are better off getting their movies on physical so you don't have to worry about this hoursecrap. also, If you have a blu ray drive your PC no matter if internal (which are very rare) or external. you can ripped your own digital copies but the biggest downsides are. blu ray will take chunks of space amd 4lk much more. plus some manufacturers are putting in firmware to prevent you from doing that.

Sad about removing Indy from streaming, heard it some week ago. Never liked streaming and never will, u dont own anything being suber at them! Regarding your subscription to Dsney, that is if your paying them or not, and u have agreed to their TOS (term of service) either free trail or paying them. If u visit Disney- and or world, u cant sue them if an accident occurs in their parks, or in a case of a woman who died by eating peanuts; she and her husband asked beforehand if a dish at a resturant had peaunts and the staff said no!?, and the husband couldnt sue Disney because of the TOS, bad company. Never been huge fan or Disney. U can hear it at Yelloflash 2 channel (Aug 14, 2024) So, if u are going to their amusementparks, be careful, man!
