'No mosques in my backyard': Koreans confront Muslims over building a mosque next door

The number of Muslims in South Korea, mostly workers and students from countries such as Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Kazakhstan and Bangladesh, stands at under two hundred thousand today, less than half of a percentage point of the total population.
However, given that in South Korea, Buddhism and Christianity are the most common religions, and that the population of all foreign national residents is only four percent, many Koreans, especially the older generation, still to this day lack a proper understanding of Islam.
And after the 2007 kidnapping and deaths of South Korean missionaries in Afghanistan by members of the Taliban, some Koreans started to believe that Islam incites violence, causing fears against the local Muslim community.
This uneasy situation is evident for Kyungpook National University's Muslim international students, as they have been facing fierce backlash from their Korean neighbors after they decided to construct a two-story mosque in a residential area not far from the campus in Daegu.
Then, as their protest intensified, they started putting up banners accusing Muslims of being terrorists.

Always remember this pattern, 1) Conflict is always between islam vs other religions 2) Other islamic countries will not accept those affected muslims as their refugees, but they somehow sneak into non-islamic countries. This is a question to Muslims in the comment section. Islamic countries don't allow other religions to build churches or temples within their lands. Foreigners have to wear hijabs, wear long clothing, not allowed to drink, and not allowed to eat pork when they visit those countries. Yet, Muslims demand respect from the host countries while they don't give any respect to others. Koreans in Itaewon have problems with prayers with loudspeakers from mosque five times a day that disturb the neighborhood. Soon the muslims will demand no restaurants open during Ramadan. They will force the natives to wear long clothes, demand Sharia, and convert or leave the neighborhood. Don't you see the hypocrisy? If you want respect, you gotta respect others too. That's common sense in any culture and religion.

The arrogance of the moslim guy being interviewed is mind boggling. First of all, it is only because of a student visa they probably are allowed to stay in South Korea. It's not easy otherwise to stay there since they are very strict when it comes to immigration and rightfully so. That means you, and your fellow students, are guests. How disrespectful can you be to think you can just infiltrate an area with your religious beliefs, when the locals clearly don't agree with this? Doesn't you religion teach you to humble yourself especially when you are not in your own "home"? The Korean locals have every right to protest against this movement. It's their country and if they think it's not aligned with their culture, at least try talking to them with the help of a mediator about the issue (lack of space) and explore other options instead of enforcing a literal new building on them. It doesn't matter if the old building is in the exact spot. It's their neighborhood. Lastly, i think (personal assumption here) that the locals main concern is that if the mosque is stationed there, it will attract more muslim students or tourists. Knowing now they are not very fund of the islam culture, the intense frustration is understandable.

An explication to the expansion, the 4th step: This happens by having as many children as possible, if possible with four wives and by letting partners come from other countries. Religiously mixed couples aren´t allowed. Any children born to muslims are automatically muslims. To step off from Islam is punishable by death. @@faresstifanos3374 That´s correct. The Quran is written as a negative book directed against the old Arabic religion (now extinct), Christendom and Judaism. Muslims don´t even realize that "Allahu akbar" (Allah (the Arabic moon god) is bigger (kabir => akbar)) meaning "God is bigger" is a clear contradiction to "there is one god" (with the raised index finger). The solution to conflicts is not to be found in this religion.
