But removing that oil CURED my acne and oiliness of my skin and noticably made my capillaries resistant to breaking. The changes happened to me within days of quitting oil. I use it on my skin, I think it's lovely with a bit of esential oils. But I don't want acne again so I will not ingest it:-) Btw, I'm 37 and was suffering from acne for over 20 years. Since going low fat vegan this doesn't happen anymore when I vomit or just minimally. It might be a more complex result of going vegan and it's maybe not directly connected to oil.

Because he left out one important study! Sugar make you fat, not fats. Plus unhealthy oils like so-call vegetable oil leads to inflammation. Metabolic diseases are dietary diseases and this comes mainly from sugar. Which increases your insulin leading to insulin resistance over time. Talk about the "big fat lie" Since oil is the problem. Why is metabolic diseases still going up from eating low fat foods. Because The food industry remove the fat and replace it with sugar. Fructose is the worse sugar of them all. So many people like my grand parents been eating healthy fats like butter and olive oil and live till they were in their 90's Something generations have been eating before the food industry and big pharma decided money was more important than health. Food industry: eat more process sugar. Big pharma: when you get metabolic diseases we have medicine that Can cure you... you just have to live on it till you die for it to work. As the saying goes: Let your food be your medicine, or medicine shall be your food! People need to do their own research and not be gullible to everything that comes from so-called professionals.
@ravynx3 жыл бұрын
@@LoveNjustice - Sugar is only a problem because people consume fat (oils & animal fats) which blocks the insulin receptors in cells (rendering the cell less efficient to handle glucose intake) and therefore making the body produce more insulin that stores the fat. Get rid of the fat and let your body naturally handle sugar from starches (yes, processed sugar is still bad).
@LoveNjustice3 жыл бұрын
@@ravynx the body produce more insulin because that's it's job when there is too much sugar in the blood. Insulin's job is to store sugar which is done by coverting it into fat to be used when our sugar is low. Healthy fats does not block insulin receptors. If it's blocked by fat as you claim then too much sugar converted to fat and so-call vegetable oil would be the cause! Long story short. Insulin resistance is caused when the cell is too full. The cell says it can't hold no more and so it's ignoring the insulin which happens over long period of time. It's like pouring sugar into a small cup. Can you put more sugar into a cup when it's completely full. Even if you increase the # of people (insulin) to help force it in, will it make a difference.

@marcbateman392310 жыл бұрын
Very true about refined oils, oils seeds/nuts are better of course. Still, we need to keep seed/nut consumption reasonably low imo because they are high in fat, and it seems they will activate clotting factor 7 which seems to lead to negative impacts on flow-mediated dilatation in human circulation. Ways to get around this is to sprout the seeds for 4 days which converts roughly 50% of fats into free fatty acids which doesn't activate blood clotting factor 7 and to also have protective anti-oxidants from sprouted foods/greens. Since watching this video l have had to change my eating habits too to keep the fat levels lower.

***** No reason to be angry. You don't have to be no-oil to be vegan. Vegan can be an improvement on the standard diet, for many reasons. Dr. Esselstyn's message is for people with advanced heart disease, who could have major problems if they don't clean up their diet 100%. Avoiding or minimizing oil is very good for your health, but you don't have to start out with a no-oil diet in order to get many health benefits of the plant-based diet. So start where you are, with what you can do, and over time you can always tweak and improve your diet as it's convenient or desirable for you to do so. Cheers.

In the North Karelia Project the male 35-65 year old heart disease death rate dropped by over 80% leaving out saturated fats (mostly butter). That is massive. Well, i´m from Portugal, i use a lot of olive oil, pure extra virgin cold pressed olive oil that tastes like olive! When i mean a lot i´m talking about a litre a month! We don´t have heart diseases related to that, people in mediterraniean countries have heart diseases related to industrialized food, mostly from American influences such as MacDonalds and Coca cola (junk food).

Judith Brooks im 34 and i eat clean! The point here is that people eat a lot of junk then point the causes of their diseases to other products wich aren´t even originated from your continent, you don´t even know what oil are talking about. Do you have olive trees in your backyard? Do you make olive oil? When did the americans started to consume olive oil, since João Gonçalves Zarco!? How does a doctor makes such a claim if they don´t even hang around with people who eat a certain type of food for mileniums, making connections, studying patterns, their dna and tendencies, etc... Who did they used for their studies!? Portuguese, italians, spanish people living in their native countries that eat olive all day!? It´s well known here everybody consumes lot of olive oil and people live an average of 80/90 years old. When someone dies from heart problems is always related to industrial food, alcohol, tobacco, physical inactivity, processed oils, etc, not extra virgin olive oil. In fact, olive oil is very good for your heart. Since we are comunicating via internet i won´t even bother to publish some studies because you too can Google it everywhere.

Isaiah 53:5, But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes, we are healed. For salvation, people just need to follow the way they did it in Acts? They were baptized in the water and of the spirit. Here's why! The gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. If we are to follow him, we must do the same thing. Death= repentance, Burial = baptism, and resurrection = being filled with the Holy Ghost and rising again from the dead. That's what Acts 2:38 is. We must obey the gospel, 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that OBEY NOT THE GOSPEL of our Lord Jesus Christ. Matthew 7:21-23, Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that DOETH THE WILL OF MY FATHER which is in Heaven. St John 3:3-5, EXCEPT a man be born of WATER AND OF THE SPIRIT, he cannot enter into the kingdom of GOD. We can't come up with our own gospel. Galatians 1:8-9, But though we or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. Don't be cursed. One way for all people. Jews, Gentiles, and Samaritan. Our salvation has to match-up with the scriptures and no scriptures on the subject can be taken away. Eternity is TOOO long to be WRONG! st, John 5:39, Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. God told Noah exactly how to be saved, how he must build the ark. Noah didn't come up with his own plan like people are doing today. A sinner's prayer, you just have to believe, etc which is not in the bible. The gospels show what Christ has done on the cross for us. The book of Acts shows us the beginning of Christ's Church and how to enter the Church, obeying Acts 2:38. The letters were written to the Church to show us how to behave now that we are born again into the Church. It's better to walk alone than to walk with a crowd going in the wrong direction. Are we supposed to follow the teachings of the apostles? Acts 2:42, They continued steadfastly in the apostle's doctrines. Ephesians 2:20, We are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone. Jesus Christ truly loves you. Do you truly love him? If you believe in this message, help spread it in the name of Jesus Christ. God bless you!

This is what Esselsteyn says and remember. There is no such thing as healthy oil and fats: As nuts are a rich source of saturated fats, my preference is no nuts for heart disease patients. That also eliminates peanuts and peanut butter even though peanuts are officially a legume. For those with established heart disease to add more saturated fat that is in nuts is inappropriate. For people with no heart disease who want to eat nuts and avocado and are able to achieve a cholesterol of 150 and LDL of 80 or under without cholesterol lowering drugs, some nuts and avocado are acceptable. Chestnuts are the one nut, very low in fat, it is ok to eat.

The confusion comes from over simplification... you have to look at the grade of olive oil, how much exercise, how much fruits and vegs are being consumed etc... you can NOT look at only one factor
@drshaunna6 жыл бұрын
I agree. AND in the studies did people cook with olive oil. That can be a problem if you go above the smoke point and then that causes free radicals. BUT olive oil on salads at room temperature have been associated with health benefits. Sometimes it is the little details. As an MD and having coached thousands of people I honestly believe there is more than one right answer. One person's "medicine" is another person's "poison". Other factors within the person and within the food make a huge difference. This is why a particular food consumed in one country or in one situation can be tolerated and elsewhere it can not. I recommend tuning in and listening to your body. What makes it feel good? What makes it feel sick? Awareness and mindfulness is very helpful.

This dr most likely work with big pharma. It is well known fact that sugar associate lobby did "bribe" scientist to write journals blaming fats and oil as the cause of the disease rather than sugar. Dont believe me? The pyramid food was not created by Health or Nutrition board. It was created by Department of Agriculture (US) which heavily subsidized corn and grain to lower the cost i.e price war against mexico or brazil. As part of the support, sugar associate fund the research that demonize the fat and put the sugar and grain in good light. Some scientist at the time worried as during that time, there was no long term studies about consumption of sugar. And yet because the DA already approve sugar and grain as healthy diet to avoid diseases, many food companies start to remove fat and oil and replace it with pure glucose or high fructose corn syrup which we know in modern day, is bad for diabetes and heart disease as sugar spike insulin level up through the roof and carbohydrate like bread and rice have high glycemic index that even a single bowl is enough for diabetics to get blood glucose > 7mmol. Not to mention De Novo Lipogenesis which mean excess sugar in the liver due to western diet of high sugar and carbs lead to fat genesis i.e fat forming in the viceral area of organ (belly fat). Excess fat was created in the artery was not from fat consumption, it was from excess sugar that the process of De Novo Lipogenesis created as the fat has no where to go and lead up in the blood vessel. Excess consumption of sugar also prevent fat breakdown as the liver had to metabolize first the excess sugar. The initial proponent for this long time scam is Dr Ancel Keys. He got nobel price for his work of seven countries and fat consumption increasing the heart attack. But deep inspection of the journal reveal he purposely skew the data that dont fit the paradigm of fat lead to heart disease. Country like Italy and Japan excluded because their high consumption of fat (olive oil and fish oil) didnt translate to high heart disease, infact it lowers it. Not only that, Dr Ancel Keys initial paper use 20 countries, not 7. He exclude almost 2/3 countries that prove him wrong. His name shall forever tarnish the goodwill of scientific research and reveal the deep corruption with FDA, USDA and private companies like Monsanto that is soo corrupt, tons of farmer sued the companies because Monsanto promote cancer promote chemical as harmless peptiside for pest. Western American diet is a mistake, social weapon that is designed to kill you over long time consumption. The Japanese know this, thats why Mcd Japan is struggling to even open as their bad reputation in US.

Funny, but high fat / low carb proponents suggest (many of them also being MDs or well known nutritionists) the exact opposite opposite - no sugar, sometimes also no starch. Both groups offer testimonies from people swearing that having switched to the opposite dietary approach (high carb or high fat) cured them from diabetes, heart problems and/or let them lose some serious excess weight. Whom to believe? Maybe choose the middle way - eat both in moderation? More than 40 years ago the man was able to land on the moon, but in 21st century we still have no clue what to eat, which should be much less complicated than space travels. What a mystery.

Oils are a problem because they are highly concentrated sources of fat, with little to no nutrients left after they have been processed and refined. Even extra virgin olive oil - which is not refined and retains traces of nutrients plus polyphenols - is not a health food. Olives are fine unless you need to lose weight. They are whole foods and retain much of the original nutrients. As for avocados, they are rich sources of many micronutrients and also provide omega-3 - but they are very high in fat. I limit them to 1/4 or 1/2 of an avocado a day, because a single avocado could use up 10% or more of daily calories. It's easier to control fat intake by using whole foods, rather than pouring oil from a bottle.

+answertotodayis1776 I think you have some valid points, diet is only part of the puzzle. I'm not sure how the Spanish stand out genetically, many countries 'conquered' the Americas, Britain,France Portugal and Holland all spring to mind. The British made regular journeys to Australia as well, but this proves nothing. Spain isn't a country that stands out for athletic prowess either, sure they've got some good athletes but no more than anywhere else. But my point is that Dr Esselstyn states that olive oil is bad for us. Surely if it was so bad then countries with a high olive oil intake would have a high cvd rate. Unfortunately it isn't so easy, people eat lots of things, animal products and junk food, so how can Esselstyn blame olive oil? Of course excess oil will make us fat but in moderation it can not be unhealthy. I think the Spanish used to live a long time because of their simple diet of fruit,vegetables, nuts and legumes and a low intake of animal products. People do not realise that 50 years ago Spain was a poor country and the majority of its population lived in villages eating a very simple diet. The rich people in the villages were the ones that died soonest because they could afford to buy meat. Olive oil has nothing to do with it, in my opinion.

NO OIL! NOT EVEN OLIVE OIL? Oh my! When I look at the big picture, this makes sense to me because oil isn't often found "whole" in nature: it is extracted from the plant, and removed of its fiber and other nutrients. Oil is mostly fat, after all. But I'm not too worried about pouring some olive oil or sesame oil on my food because fat-soluble minerals such as vitamin A absorb better in the presence of fat. Vegan dishes in restaurants also use oils. I'm not extremely restrictive when it comes to oils: a dash is enough. :)

The only reason I might quit adding "olive oil" in my food is it's insanely difficult to get an authentic one in this country. Whatever this guy saying is a complete BS. Most people in southern Italy and Sardinia live well into their 90s and they consume lots of olive oil every single day. Doc, what you gotta say about that?

@@napakamu9670 what is moderation ??? If you think you supposed to only have 15 grams of fat a day , which isn't much , where are you going to get you additional calories ? From carbs or protein right . If you were active then you'd need about an extra 2500 calories . If these calories were only to come from carbs and no oil protein sources then you'd have to eat about 2 kilos of veggies . Is that sustainable ? Or even possible ? And how is it that Eskimo people , eat mainly fat and protein and live well ? And the French have the highest levels of saturated fat in the world , yet the lowest heart disease on record . Moderate your intake of simple carbs .... That's the secret to better health .

No animals eat processed sugar. No animals eat pressed oils. No animals cook their foods. (All except humans, right?) If we really want to be "uber healthy" we should follow a very natural diet that is 100% in harmony with nature. Guess what? That diet is 0% fun If I'm eating a diet that is rich in whole food sources which support heart health, and by including oils (expeller pressed, and extra virgin) I'm somewhat mitigating that response, then so be it, because my food is DELICIOUS! What they never talk about is the diets of those who are in the studies. What kinds of oils are/have they been consuming before the study (and considering the Standart American Diet, how can the be sure that these people in the studies are 100% compliant? We all know how hard it is to stay away from processed foods (because they are EVERYWHERE). There are numerous benefits from the fats in certain oils that do not involve heart health, let's not fall into the trap of assuming the body's systems are not all connected. Good luck in making food with no oil. Unless you are a heart patient who is truly needing a special healing diet that is ultra restrictive, it's just as important to enjoy your food as it is to eat in a healthy manner. So, let's keep the moderation discussion going, and recognize that a truly holistic approach to longevity involves enjoying as many extra minutes/days/years that eating healthy will provide for us, rather than just extending our lifespan for the sake of it.

well our ancestors ate animals and few fruits(that had much less fructose than today fruits). They lived for 2 million years. We use grains only for 10.000 years and celiac disease appeared even in ancient Greece. And remember. Those grains were much more different than the genetically modified grains that you eat today. Look at the skin of Vegans. They look unhealthy thin with no muscle and they are pale. Also many vegans are diabetics from all the fructose they consume . FRUCTOSE=DEATH

Animals also don't use smartphones and toilets. A healthy diet doesn't necessarily have to be a natural diet.

He's insane. "No oil" was also the mantra of Nathan Pritikin - who died by his own hand after getting a fatal cancer diagnosis. Olive, coconut and ghee are some of the most potent lipids for cleansing the liver and gall bladder.

Not quite so simple. But a poor diet - and no fat means a poor diet- contributes to poor health. And mind and body are connected.

@ssterling45109 жыл бұрын
But you aren't going to have a "poor diet", as you put it, when you're eating the whole foods that he (and many other doctors) advocate. So... Sure, poor diet + no fat = shit health, but good diet + no fat = hundreds of thousands of medical journals showing optimum health and reversed diseases.
@brayandiaz49359 жыл бұрын
alesis100 Oil is not natrual for the human diet it is a processed food that is completely isolated from its original source. Just like fructose corn syrup is taken from corn . It does not take rocket science to see that we should not be eating or consuming isolated liquid fat.
@goldphysh9 жыл бұрын
Processed seed oils are mainly junk for sure but lipids in general (both fats and oils) are integrated into some of the healthiest foods on the planet like, eggs, fish, raw dairy, and if you're vegan - avocados, coconuts, nuts. Fats are essential to the detoxification and hormone creation functions in the body as well as critical for proper brain function and even individual cell wall integrity. Read Mary Enig's "Know Your Fats" to find out more.

sdushdiu Well honestly its a problem. I am still in search of something good to put on a baked potato that is vegan with no oil. I have tried all kinds of sauces and dressings and it just doesn't work. I don't think it can be done. This is one food where I will just have to bite the bullet and accept either a vegetable spread or good old butter. I think its like asking for oil free potato chips or oil free french fries it just doesn't work. Some foods there is simply no substitute for fat. It wouldn't be such a big deal except that I LOVE white potatoes and am a strong believer in them nutrition wise. I agree with Dr McDougall that potatoes the "the perfect food". A sack of potatoes is also quite cheap which is important to me. McDougall seems to put a lot of sweet sauces on his, but that doesn't work for me at all.
