As a combat veteran of the United States Navy, I learned that no plan survived first contact with the enemy. At that point, orders go out the window and those present have to impervise. Humanity (Bad English corrected, hopefully) During the war in Bosnia, I did pass a crossroad at nowhere, seeing a young boy waiving and running towards my UN car. So, i stopped... He was bleeding badly from his left hand, somehow, he had, or someone had, split his hand with an axe. Hence I wasn’t a medic I only had first aid kits, so i did what i could to clean with antiseptic and bandage the wound... I gave him all the painkillers, all the antiseptics and first aid kits i had in the car, making shore he was able to reunite with his family. When I later that day arrived back at the Swedish UN HQ camp, after finishing my task at another camp, the story was already well known. So I was summoned to the camp commandant, I got a bad bashing. I told them, I would do the same thing again if needed, this was a young kid, but i would also help combatants if injured, as We are all humans?

They chewed him out saying "you need to prioritize important personnel, blah blah blah". The medic's reply was = "In that case sirs, If in the future, your child and you are wounded, I will leave your child to die and prioritize you instead." This gave a long pause. The medic broke the silence by saying "I'm a medic, I refuse be inhumane". They let him off with a warning.

Some advice for all you non-military folks writing military stories: First: we are only required to _lawful_ orders; an order to abandon a civilian, especially a civilian _child,_ is inherently unlawful. The only person in this story who would face punishment is the officer who gave the unlawful order to abandon a child. He definitely would have lost the trust of his troops for that. Second: *_A soldier never operates alone._* Even snipers operate in 2-man teams. The only reason he should have been in a combat zone by himself is if the rest of his unit had been wiped out, at which point a rescue force would have been in route, hard and fast.

Would've been something if Jack and Zena's mom ended up getting married and he adopts Zena. I would probably write something like that in one of my books, providing there weren't environmental issues that would prohibit them living together on the same planet (like atmosphere, gravity, etc.). 😏 I do have characters that are involved with someone from a different species, in fact, one of my own novels delves into that.

Meaning that if I hadn't skipped that second ad it would've taken me 2 minutes and 20 seconds to watch 1 minute and 2 seconds of the content I actually came here for.... Yes I am aware of the irony that this post took me even longer to compose and post but my point about the YT ad algorithms being off the charts still stands...
