@swine13
@swine13 3 жыл бұрын
Same, I reckon some of his better punchlines got a pretty disappointing reaction from the crowd. I suppose it comes with the awkwardness of being religious and making jokes that toe the line between being about religion but also relating to those more shocking things like sex offenders and stuff. I think sometimes religious people aren't quite sure if its ok to laugh at certain jokes... moreso than the average person, anyway, because they have that extra social group to conform to Shame - this guy is funny. As someone who used to be religious, I appreciated the direction he took with his material because it obviously was related to religion but it still felt relatable to me as a set
@LadyVoldemort

I didn't laugh because I can't relate to him at all. I'm a non religious 40 year old Ravenclaw who also happens to love Star Wars. Every Sunday in church there are people pretending to be religious.
@swine13

They pretend at various points during the week, too. Thats actually why im not religious any more. I kept catching myself pretending, just to fit in with people I wanted to fit in with. So one day I was like "this is silly" and just accepted that im not inherently religious 🤷‍♂️
@dansilberstein326
@dansilberstein326 3 жыл бұрын
What is it that you thought was silly? Because there’s a difference between faith in God and being religious. I don’t go to a church or follow any man made religious traditions but I believe Jesus died for the sins of the world and rose again. Often times religious tradition is the opposite of what the Bible teaches. I could probably list 100 examples of this off the top. Most people seem to think they have to act a certain way in order to believe a certain way. The Bible is pretty clear that we are ALL sinners, that there is none righteous, NOT ONE. Simply recognizing that good and evil do exist puts you half way there.

@@dansilberstein326 people feel going to a cong is religious, but really it's what keeps us strong spiritually. And the apostles commanded it be done. The whole reason the apostles started congs in the first place...and then said at Hebrews 10:24 incite each other to love and fine works, Do not forsake the gathering of yourselves together as some have the custom...but so it all the morso, as you behold the day drawing near.

@dansilberstein326
@dansilberstein326 3 жыл бұрын
@@flamingpieherman9822 the church is not a building, but rather a body of believers. As a believer you are part of the church, and body of Christ. Acts 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; 1 Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. Matthew 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. I was turned off from “churches” very early on in my walk when I was refused baptism until I attended religious classes for weeks before. As if believing in Jesus Christ for my salvation was not enough. Acts 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. 32And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. 33And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. I’d go as far as to say most “church” leaders believe the traditions of men over what the Bible clearly teaches. 501(c)(3) churches especially. Jude 4:4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

No one pretends to be religious? I did for 4 years. Willingly. Eagerly. religion gave me such an identity crises 😂 I was born to and raised by a secular Ashkenazi Jewish-Canadian mom and a “barely religious” Iranian-Canadian Muslim father. In Judaism, being Jewish is passed through the mom. In Islam, being Muslim is passed through the dad. Can you imagine what it was like for me growing up?????? My parents were wonderful and *NEVER* pressured me to choose, but the rest of my family?? Ugh, almost all of them were like “you’re Jewish/Muslim because of your mom/dad and no one can change that reality.” I had such a bad identity disorder and was so pissed off at my family that I *converted to Christianity* and convincingly faked being a devout Anglican for a little over 4 years 😂 this was between the ages of 15-19. Bless my parents for supporting my conversion. ❤️ They had no idea I was faking cuz I was an angsty teenager. Eventually I outgrew my teen angst and told my relatives to mind their f***ing business and stop telling me how to identify.

That shoutout to The Hand of Thrawn Trilogy (the best Star Wars books ever!) made my day! As an actual card-carrying Nerd I loved that he went there. I would show up to theaters Cosplaying Mara Jade and no one ever got it. Until one fateful day when I encountered a very professional legion of Storm Troopers (trying to get into the 501st) who immediately snapped to attention. That was one of the best days ever. And this was one of my fav. Dry Bars ever. Thanks for the laughs!
