Amen! My former employer wouldn’t let me take off 2 days to go to Ft Campbell KY. To see my oldest son get home from Afghanistan! He was a combat medic in the 101st Airborne. I was a supervisor, well I went anyway! Sooo glad I did. It was emotional for sure. Got back on Monday, they were gonna demote me!! I laid the keys to my free company truck down along with my name tag, told them where to stick it!! Next day I started my own company!! That was 2013.

I had a cool boss and a cool job. When I found out my mom had cancer I told her I need time to process it. I had to quit because of COVID in order to protect my mom. Rough time. So ya. To any business owners or potential business owners out there. Take care of your employees and they will take care of you. Understand that sometimes you have to deal with people dealing with a death in the family. They are in pain.

Your channel single-handedly made my decision to finally try Jersey Mike's. Thanks for sharing your experience with previous bosses. If it were their family, they wouldn't be there. I do not work for people like that and I have told employers that I have no problem walking out if they can't treat you with basic human respect. And I have walked out. No dollar, no matter how badly I need it, is worth me being treated that way. I have no been disappointed yet. In anything. This is a chain shop that ACTUALLY makes good subs.

I hope this dude is the franchisee now. I would love to work for someone like that. I've had nightmare experiences in the past and ended up quitting on the spot, but with a little compassion and understanding, I probably would have stayed. Respect to this dudes mentality and RIP to his grandma. She helped raise a good one.

Sadly, I've worked for people like that, and I've also been blessed to work for people with YOUR mindset. If you're a franchisee, we really NEED you to come to our town and open a place here. We have two stores here (the underwater sandwich shop, if you know what I mean), and the owners (of both, I think) are running them into the ground. They'd get along well with the insensitive owners you worked for. Seriously, we need a good Jersey Mike's. We used to live right down the street from one in San Antonio, but here in our little town, we're bereft.

I wanted to visit my grandad before he passed but the owner of my company decided his fishing trip that week meant no one else could take time off.... my gramps died that week. I quit my job and opened a rival company lol. I didnt want to work for myself and all the bs that comes w it but lord knows ill never bend the knee to some narcissistic boomer again, hard lessons.

Man you are amazing for telling the individual to take as much time as they need. Every single person grieves differently. The sad aspect on this matter is, most big industries you bereavement pay for so many days depending on the relationship with the lost loved one. And in my eyes, I think that it should be a law for ALL businesses and corporations to give you paid bereavement without any question or harassment. I know it has been a while since your Grandmothers passing, but SORRY for the loss. Hope you always have GREAT memories of her and smile.

I been in the food & beverage business for over 30 yrs. & every place I’ve worked was like that, I remember 911 when it happened, no one was open for business but we were, another place where I was suffering a compressed spine & after 3 episodes of not being able to stand at three different occasion’s I just never went back, recovered with proper rest & moved on to the next job. No place is worth selling your soul for because you are expendable at most place’s, just be sure when you do leave, leave at the top of your game & find some where that values your work ethic & your integrity, Nuff Said !

Here's my story crazy SG. My grandfather passed. I went into work. Stone faced. Turned out that me not wanting to tell anyone wouldn't pass. The man who got me that job was also a pastor on Sundays. The same man was appointed to lead the procession at my grandfather's funeral. He took the time to call my boss and tell him about that passing. When I went into work J my boss says I'm sorry about your grandfather E. I remember making that sound like you got punched and the wind is knocked from you. Crying I says to him ya know I came to work today thinking it'd get my mind off things. He made sure to tell every employee I worked with that night, hey, E is going to need some patience from all you guys tonight. Chuuuch

Most businesses these days are run trying to minimize costs to the last nickel, particularly labor. But a well run business will have some grease in extra resources so if a manager goes down and they have a big order, they can flex and manage.
