I think I was shooting rainbows out of my eyes by the end of this stream XD As the saying goes now: *NoeFure gachi da!* 2:55 This is kinda an issue with the perception of outsiders. In lesbian relationships you dont follow typical gender roles. The idea of "you are the boyfriend, I'm the girlfriend" doesnt exist. They are both girlfriends. The reason people like to label and file away like that is because certain aspects are associated with those "roles". Even though we know that in heterosexual relationships those roles also dont really apply anymore in the modern age, it's something convenient as Noel says. It's true that some lesbians will assume that for example a butch girl will be like a boyfriend. In fact often sadly masculine girls are perceived as a boyfriend replacement to some. I quite like that NoelFlare are not trying to play along with this stereotype. It shows that their relationship is very real. Japanese media has a very skewed perspective on LGBT and that's why a lot of people have misconceptions. It is important and good that pairings like Crossick and NoelFlare show the audience these little details honestly.

Just to add a little bit, people assume male/female roles when they see people in a relationship not because society (well, some may do), but because as humans we are sexually dimorphism species. There's this neat little field called evolutionary psychology that I would urge every person that is capable of reading to look into. I would also think that persons of different cultures would, in general, dislike being gauged by someone from a culture that is not theirs.

Humans fall to a lot of natural instincts, but much of our nature has also been strongly altered by culture. Sometimes that can be a negative and sometimes it is a benefit. An initial reaction based on instinct will not control people forever. I can assure you that when you are in contact with homosexual relationships long enough, you start to lose you rigid sense of gender roles. Even more so because they are a construct to begin with. What is a "female role"? Intrinsic gender roles do not work for humans. What constitutes those roles (beyond the absolute bare minimum of mother and father) changes by culture and era, making them completely unreliable factors. The idea of assuming only people who belong to a group can understand how that group functions is entirely unscientific. Frankly, whether people from one culture like being gauged by other cultures is irrelevant to the fact of the matter. If you have a disagreement with my assessment of Japanese media, I prefer you voice it with evidence rather than feelings. You have no idea how and where I got my information from, so you may be surprised that I reflect the opinions of people very much in that culture.

Yeah, it's why Matsuri had to put a little distance between herself and Luna, as she was worried she might actually cross that line. Hopefully Noel and Flare can find a way to straddle that line, if they are indeed romantically interested in eachother, as I would hate to see it come back to bite them. Although in a perfect world they would just say "fuck it, fuck the haters, fuck overly obsessed and entitled idol purists, we're dating now". But I don't think we live in that world just yet.
