This video tutorial goes through a detailed, step by step process of sewing a zippered box cushion cover. How to measure and fit any size cushion you would like to make a cover for. This tutorial teaches the easiest, tried and true method for sewing in a professionally place zipper. I cover how to make a cushion fit tight and with a decidedly professional look.
The box cushion covers in this video are installed in a 4-wheel camper and I follow the instillation as we puzzle though the plan to connect the cushions and then adjust and tweak to make the plan work.
The settee back aspect of the couch, mentioned in the video, is a folding sofa, sleeper hinge and can be found with this link:

Great instructional video. I've been dragging my feet to replace our van cushions and this video has boosted my confidence. The original cushions were just stapled to the underside and then a bottom piece stapled on. I wanted a zippered cushion for cleaning purposes, a wrap around zipper and the hidden tab. Mostly the videos I've seen are for couch cushions and I'm trying to include the wood from the original cushions. You're video included everything I was wanting. Perfect timing, perfect video. Thank you!

Thanks for the video! LOVE the editing! Really helps that the video is concise, with excellent closeup pics. The zipper pocket trick is FAB! Great way to get the last bit of fitting to work well. I use an Adler 267, which was much improved by the addition of a servo motor, can slow it up until it's one stitch at a time. Yes, top end speed is reduced, but I'm not doing heavy production work, control is much more important. Now if I could just get the foot lift to work.

This is a great video, thank you! I am curious about your cutting table - what is the surface made of ? I use self healing cutting mats but would love to have a proper surface on a table that I can cut straight on to…
@NoelleODesigns
@NoelleODesigns 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, the cutting table has a self sealing mat, I ordered it from somewhere online- cut to fit the table so there are no seams. The best part of the table is that it’s standing height that is key!

Fantastic Tutorial, I’m going to follow your instruction while making my 7 cushions! May I ask what weight batting you used pleased as I’m unsure which one to get! Thank you
@NoelleODesigns
@NoelleODesigns 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on how your cushion covers fit. If they are very tight then it wouldn’t be necessary to use very much batting at all. If the cushion covers are a little loose then use a heavier weight batting. In conclusion, I would go heavier over light because it will just compress or fill in the gaps- which is the point!😀 Good luck!!

Hi! This video is so informative! May I ask what kind of fabric did you use? I like the texture and color!
@NoelleODesigns
@NoelleODesigns 3 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure what the fabric is exactly- beyond an upholstery weight gray fabric, perhaps sealed against stains. I think it would be fairly easy to find if you search with the above terms. Good luck and thanks for watching!

Hello, good idea, although industrial machines all thread somewhat differently. You could probably look up your specific machine for how to thread it properly.

Thanks for the tutorial! The only issues I have is lining up my zipper so it’s centered. It always ends up wrapping around a little on one side and a few inches longer on the other side. I’ve taken it out and redone it with the same problem. I think my non zippered side piece is a little too long.
@NoelleODesigns
@NoelleODesigns Жыл бұрын
You could definitely trim down the non zippered side. I would wait until it’s time to sew the final little bit, then you can tweak and adjust the side pieces to perfection right before sewing up the final bit. I hope that helps!
@SWilliams-01
@SWilliams-01 Жыл бұрын
@@NoelleODesigns thanks! I was thinking of starting on the opposite side and sewing the zipper area first and when I get back around the extra fabric from the non zipper side could be folded over thus shortening it and making my zipper wraparound area more accurate

What is the name of your machine/model? Also why is it SO HARD for me to get my corners lined up and matching? I still really struggle not to make it look wonkey with one side of the outer corner being slightly off from the corrosponding corner on the other side
@NoelleODesigns
@NoelleODesigns Жыл бұрын
In this video I use an industrial Bernina and Consew both likely used in a factory back in the day, both are industrial grade and about 50 years old. Corners are hard! I would pin the layers EXACTLY where you want them then adjust the fabric layers between the corners as you go. The upper and lower layers will shift as you sew- just the nature of fabric and the feed dogs under the presser foot may pull the fabric through the machine slightly faster than the presser foot on the top. Take your time and keep checking the layers frequently. Thanks for watching!!
