Looks real nice so far, better than i thought it would be. The home screen improvements are a welcome addition. Podcasting and Internet Radio have been removed though which is pissing me off no end.
@Brunoxtr14 жыл бұрын
@JesperSP it is not lag. The touchscreen waits until you complete the swipe then it switches home screens. Unlike in the N900 the home screen follows your swiping.
@mobileburn14 жыл бұрын
@jeettak Are you using it with Gmail? My guess is that Google is the limitation, not the N8. I wasn't trying to say that the N8's exchange support was faulty, only that there was no perfect way to get contacts from Google's Gmail. I didn't make that entirely clear.
@mobileburn14 жыл бұрын
@MKCrapsters No, it's kinda like "information". Haptics uses a singular verb. What I should have said, though, is that "there is haptic feedback."

I can't wait for my N8 currently rocking a 5800 and the the N* is a quantum leap forward UI, ease of use and processor speed :-) Don't forget about the dedicated GPU. Symbian^4 upgrade is around the corner too.

@DubSe7en S^3 is an immense update inside - years of new work have gone in since S60 5th edition. I have seen the code and I know. This stuff is not alway visible in UIs but it's what makes great functionality possible. You probably will want to get a new theme. There are themes on the way from various sources.

Hi, thanks for the review. Was wondering if you can answer a question. The specs says it has Push Email so will the phone receive a new email right away (Gmail and Yahoo)?

@MobileBurn You have to enable prediction with the landscape QWERTY by going into the menu (the 3 bar button) at the bottom right. There you will find an option for it. Could you explain what parts of the UI exhibit this inconsistency regarding not being able to use kinetic scrolling?

@07liberian Do you work for nokia? Pinch zoom, flawless touch, no lag on menu, flawless 3d gaming support, much better accelerometer, dictionary with auto correct when writing messages, bigger dial screen, select tool with zoom, better web browser.... need more?
@JesperSP14 жыл бұрын
@Brunoxtr - I remember the SMS lag on the old S60 phones, because they had to give you time to press the * key if you wanted to lock the phone. I don't see the lag in any other swipe situation, so I'm wondering why they made it like this. I've seen a lot of people bashing the N8 because of this "lag"...
@songlessbird114 жыл бұрын
@xkevinc I think the problem is that some people dont like see the n1 Os now and the N1 mobile manufacture not be from America.. Well in Europe we have other priorities when we use a mobile phone, so we like nokia and symbian more than other OS
@JoyOfMakingObservations14 жыл бұрын
Not bad for Symbian^3, a major jump from the last version. But it seems like Nokia should focus more on the Meego platform. It felt like N900 was like a hit and run that was a fail in Nokia eyes. But i bet if they added Meego on the N8 or E7(which most people were expecting) alot of more people would be more interested in the N8. Personally i love Nokia hardware and i love the softeware when speaking about Meego but Symbian needs a few more steps to get to a good software.
@DubSe7en14 жыл бұрын
currently using a SE satio, the n8 doesn't seem radically different to it, s3 doesn't look too much of an update :-( (although it does seem a lot more fluid and faster. ) would be interested to see how the camera compares to the satio one. it's between this and the desire as my next phone...
@JesperSP14 жыл бұрын
Pretty impressed with the N8 so far... The only thing I don't like so far is the lag on switching the home screen with swiping - I don't understand this because there is no lag on swiping elsewhere. I wonder if there is a reason for this lag?!? Does the gmail exchange also sync the google calendar? Kind of important :)

@t43562 i already have a nice theme :-) it's not that, i just noticed little things that annoy me about my satio still present in the n8, the rotate lag, the inability to remove words or change word priority in t9, the lack of autocorrect in qwerty, the lack of uniformity through the os (eg the way some menus require the scrollbar, some don't). i like my phone, but that are a lot of things that bug me (the slowness being the main prob) that would make me think twice about another symbian device

@songlessbird1 Also, that 43% went down from an over 50% one year ago. With so many people dropping out of the Symbian following, it'll likely not go any further. Not to mention that Nokia uses MeeGo mainly for its high end devices.

So far it looks like just awesome hardware at the moment. Which sucks because I was seriously looking into getting this strictly as a multimedia device...let's see part three PS..Nokia needs to seriously get going w/ Meego.

@punkposer well it is supposed to be the last high end Nokia phone with symbian, meego is almost there , the N9 should is supposed to have meego, but all mid range and eventually later the low range will get symbian^3 @the Hatters,Symbian was the best OS till at it time it did everything that a phone could do intel 2006 or so , it just it didn't involve as much which was the probleme. Meego is nokias answer

@jb678901 Wrong. You carrier has nothing to do with Exchange support. I don't even say that the error is Nokia's fault, it is possible that Google doesn't let you do mail via the Exchange Activesync protocol. My real point here is that you can't get contacts from Gmail, which a lot of people will miss. So you have to use this hack/kludge to get it, and that the hack itself is incomplete.

@PoetryRocksGadgets Yeah I have N82 with symbian 1. It's really quite same looking. But Symbian is also the most used mobile OS so it's easy to take the transition. I'd say this is still big improvement. The OS looks much smoother.

@07liberian Windows Phone 7 isn't even out yet, but it still looks really modernized and fluid. iOS really hasn't changed and I still don't like it. Android has a lot of updates, but I see that as a good thing, especially with 2.2 giving flash 10 support. I'm not saying Symbian functions badly, it just LOOKS like a cheap OS if you see it being used.

@07liberian Doesn't change the fact that 0% of that is from one of the major areas of consumerism. Not to mention just looking at Symbian^3 shows how primitive it is. Plus Nokia's the only major company to focus solely on telecommunications, so I would hope it would be near the top. We'll just wait and see how high up it stays once Samsung and Sony Ericcson leave Symbian completely.

People still buy symbian. But now there is one more player in the pie.

@xkevinc Nokia will use and symbian 4^ in the high end devises. MeeGo is for mobile computer. It lucks of phone usage compared to symbian. That will change in the future. You compare the potentials of an OS comparing the eye candy UI. Fail.

@07liberian I agree with you on symbian being flexible. An Iphone is only good IMO if it is jailbroken. But about nokia phones nowadays; they suck. The only VERY GOOD phone made by nokia was indeed the N95 8Gb (I love that free RAM). After that, all of them are badly made.

@songlessbird1 I'm just going to leave with saying that Samsung and Sony Ericcson both have stopped making Symbian based phones and will stop having their content. Samsung's going on to Android/Windows/their own crap, while Sony Ericcson is going to Android mainly. iOS is also 14%, not 13. And honestly, you can't look at Symbian^3 and say it looks even modern, it looks like a primitive OS. The only decent thing is an open source app market with a mediocre at best OS.

@xkevinc14 жыл бұрын
@07liberian For the obvious reason that it's not big enough. iOS and Android are big in Asia, Europe, and America. I'm not saying that it's better because it's bigger, because iOS sucks, but it still can't compete because of that. America as a whole doesn't view Nokia as a large company competitor, let alone their own standalone OS.
