Now I'm curious what a portal between two spaces of differing curvatures would look like...
@ZenoRogue3 жыл бұрын
Maybe we will do this at some point. One problem is that the portal surface itself has curvature too (a "flat" portal connecting E³ and H³ would have different shapes on its sides, because one would be, say, a Euclidean rectangle and the other would be a hyperbolic something). Could work with H²xR vs E³, or with some weird curved portal, though.

This is really cool looking, but I'm not entirely sure I know what I'm looking at during all points. I kinda miss having chapters that label what each visualization is of.

i wonder why none of the call of cthulhu or other lovecraft inspired games never used non-euclidean geometry for the alien worlds. lovecraft always described them as impossible to wrap your head around which is exactly how i feel when watching these videos. i think it would be perfect
@ZenoRogue Жыл бұрын
There are only a few non-Euclidean games in general, and they are mostly experimental, by small teams skilled in math, programming and game design, but maybe not the artistic skills needed to make a good Lovecraftian game. Most game developers seem to avoid non-Euclidean geometry, even games pretending to take place on a sphere rarely do it correctly. Hopefully existing games and videos like this will inspire game developers and artists to try new things :)

@@ZenoRogue yeah most of the games i encountered are really simple visually. I would love to see some more detailed worlds being warped in non euclidean spaces

How are these structures constructed in these non-euclidean places? Is it a euclidean structure imported into the space?
@ZenoRogue Жыл бұрын
We have used a map editor to place portal walls and portal themselves, a bit like you would build things in Minecraft. (This map editor can be played with in HyperRogue/RogueViz.) For the bare floors, roofs, and the portals which make the spaces loop, it was easier to place them using programming than to build them manually in the map editor.
