So was the optical pickup failure to read the TOC related to the cracked gear or the capacitor problem? I have a CD player with a similar failure mode.

This video shows clearly that the one made by LG Electronics instead (Go Video DVR4200) is far superior in reliability. A lot of them are still running today trouble-free for over 20 years, and no one has posted a KZbin repair video yet.

You can't connect electrolytic caps like that and make NP cap. You need also diodes.

Just so everyone knows, this repair will also pertain to both Sony and Samsung machines of the same era. They were all built by Samsung which is why they tend to be total pieces of shit. The video processing board for the DVD drives of Sony machines are actually produced by Sony so they tend to be a little better from that standpoint.
