Finkelstein is such a good man, it takes a human being of integrity to put their morals and humanity over base tribal instincts. Any person who is led by what they know to be right rather than taking the easier, more primitive route and just following what is perceived to be their side. Its a pity there aren't more Finkelstein's, the world would be better place. To me he's on par with the mentality of people like Dietrich Bonhoffer who rather than just following everyone else in his 'tribe' instead followed his morals and spoke up for the ethics he believed in that international law and the Geneva Convention should count for everyone and no one gets treated with preferential treatment. There are no first and third class citizens.

Anyhow, the IDF has a responsibility to guard the border. Therefore, any 'demonstrators' who gets into that demarked no man's land near the border, risk their lives and do so on their own peril. Guarding the border is the #1 priority of any army, that's what it's for. Soldiers all across the world, are not demanded to show "compassion" towards individuals who try to cut the border fence and cross it illegally. Usually they shoot them. In this case, out of 40,000 participants only 55 were killed. So maybe the IDF is too compassionate.

BTW, had anyone here noticed what are they exactly protesting against? They are protesting against Trump's decision to enforce this section of the Oslo Accords, which allows the US to transfer its embassy to Jerusalem. So that is why Hamas proclaimed that "Million March to Jerusalem". Alright, but think for a moment: Doesn't the US have a fundamental right to decide where its embassy shall reside, especially considering that the Oslo Accords permit it to reside in Jerusalem? What the f*ck is at all, the connection to Israel here? I mean, the US, as a sovereign nation, has a right to place its embassy wherever it likes and protesting against Israel on a decision by Trump is exactly like protesting in Afghanistan against Pakistan on a decision of France. It is equally idiotic. you want to protest against a decision of the US presidency and senate - you do it on the capitol hill where you protest against the US senate. Not half a world away against Israel who has nothing to do with the decision itself.

Despite of your limited knowledge, Western Jerusalem is a part of Israel by international law, as it was part of the area held by Israel on the day the 1949 armistice came into effect (UN181 has no international validity, since the Arabs rejected it). Eastern Jerusalem is part of.. WHAT exactly? I mean, the Jordanians annexed it illegally after the 1949 armistice but then again, under the 1995 peace agreement between Israel and Jordan, the Jordanians have resigned all claims to what they called "the west bank" and left them open, including Jerusalem. The newly invented "Palestinians", invented as a nation only in 1964, prior to this year the word "Palestinian" was simply a derogatory pronoun describing a Jew from the holy land, ever since Hadrian - cannot even pronounce their own national name, since Arabic lacks a strong "P" - and they want it, of course they do.. But they are not the ones with the first claim. They are not even the ones with the strongest claim: Jerusalem had a Jewish majority until the Crusaders banished the Jews and again after Saladin re-took it and allowed the Jews back. When the Jordanians occupied Eastern Jerusalem, they banished the Jews from the Eastern side, but that does not strengthen the "Palestinian" claim to Jerusalem. On the contrary, it weakens it: Jerusalem is the historical capital of the Jews so the Jews banished by the Jordanians simply relocated to the western side until 1967 and then came back to reclaim their homes. Today Jews are the vast majority in Jerusalem. Claiming otherwise shows your lack of knowledge. The only reason why the "Palestinians" even try to claim it as theirs, is to disqualify the Jew's claim for the entire land of Israel. Without Jerusalem, there is no Israel. So Jews will fight to the death to defend Jerusalem, like we did in 1948.

Besides, even if you had a point, which you do not - still, the Oslo accords allow the embassy to be located in Jerusalem in a special stanza. The Palestinians signed the Oslo accords alongside Israel and they are legally bound by their own signature. So even if Jerusalem was not a part of Israel, which it certainly is, the US was still legally allowed to place its embassy in Jerusalem.
