Gunston was an early adopter of ambush interview technique.. his persona often got him past the inner circles protecting the stars.. many of the stars - under interview - saw the opportunity and played with Norman beautifully.. it was all done in fun for most.. there were a few who didn't respond well.
@scratchers79168 жыл бұрын
+Bernard Vance "A FEW WHO DIDN'T RESPOND WELL??" That is the understatement of the century. Chevy Chase was just shocking, the moron above Gould appalling,, and Beatty was marginal. Conversely Paul McCartney was brilliant, as was Lee Marvin outside a courtroom. Just wonderful. Also, when Frank Zappa jammed with him it was just brilliant, as too was Ali. Norman asked him if he'd prefer to be going to Manilla (where he was to be fighting Frazier in the "Thriller in Manilla") for a holiday. Ali was just brilliant in his responses.One of my favourite Norman reposts was when an interviewee suggested he use an electric shaver and Norm replied, "I already do." A brilliant, intelligent talent. So sad we lost him.

I think Elliot is pretty cool here...and he doe a bit of ambush himself, waiting a few seconds after Norm starts and then changing his face expression in mock surprise. Quite an interesting piece of theatre. Well done Norman!

I think Gunston was the first to do this faux dufus style of inter view (wonder where Sacha Baron Cohen got his inspiration ?) - some of the most interesting interviews were with unsuspecting stars who took him at face value as actually what he was pretending to be . Boy George and his pseudo-stylish hangers on in the background smugly sniggering about how stylishly superior they were to this pathetic specimen of uncool - not having the intelligence to realize they were being totally played and exposed as gormless pretenders

@RayL1983 Yes, that's why I wrote poor quality in the description. But until someone uploads a better quality version this is the only one on yt, so better poor quality than not at all.

Dear Claudine Jones, Elliott Gould was so gorgeous, sexy and adorable back in day. He was one of my first sex symbols since i was a kid and i still have a crush until today. Elliott also was the first original dark-haired male jewish-american sex symbol of Hollywood and the worldest cinema before Dan Fogler, Paul Rudd, Liev Schreiber and Adam Brody take his place. And Elliott is absolutely most gorgeous and sexiest than Megan Fox in everything.🤩😍❤️👏

Glad you enjoyed it :) It's a wonder the tape survived at all, it's been played so often over the years. We didn't get to see nearly enough of Norman in the UK.

"We didn't get to see nearly enough of Norman in the UK." Did he make appearances on UK TV then? I'm old enough to remember Dennis Pennis, but had never heard of Norman until someone mentioned him in the comments on an Ali G video. He's bloody hilarious!

I was thinking about mentioning Jason’s great singing voice when I watched this. He has a playlist on KZbin, but for the benefit of those who’d like to look him up, his surname is actually Gould, not Streisand. My favourite song of his “The Way You Look Tonight”. The arrangement of it is sublime.
