I completely agree with you. The left part of any bar should be red. Not green, yellow, white or blue, just red. It should be a standard for all brand like now the push quick release.

Great review and comparison. It's hard to find any shop which will tell you anything other than the new is improved. I have the 2020 12m and was waiting to purchase a 9m until I was able to get a solid feel for the kite. I definitely will be looking at the 2020 instead of the 2021 because the changes aren't worth the extra $450 it cost for a new year model. Plus, I really appreciate the beefed up reinforcement when I crash the kite. I don't care about bottom range performance and the top end is more stable with the stiffer, heavier materials. I'm 160 lbs and fly my 12m in 30 mph without ever second guessing its ability to depower. I learned in '07 and quickly purchased '07 North Rhinos, which had the biggest boosting capabilities of any kite to be made, even the new Orbit (sorry, but it's true). They changed that kite so much in the next two years that it became a totally different kite and they then stopped making big boosting kites in favor of the family friendly Rebels. I must say that the Orbit is the first kite I've really liked enough since then to be stoked enough to purchase multiples of and I'm very happy with the blend of performance and construction. Only thing they'll get me upgrading for is even bigger airs.

Thanks for the feedback. Never tested the rhino in 07. I'm also keeping my 2020 model. Other than wear I don't see the reason for an upgrade. It's my go-to kite and the one I like to ride the most.

How do these compare in strong wind? Considering getting an 8m orbit for 20kt+ days and wondering if the lighter trailing edge adds anything.

In stronger winds, i don’t think it makes a huge difference. If you find a good deal in the 2020 model, take it. For the bigger sizes, it’s more noticeable.

I am a little disappointed that you didn't demo the big known issue with the 2020, why not force a backstall with each kite side by side so we can actually see the difference. I hear its fixed but would have liked to see it. Sure, the kite is not for light wind however we all experience the wind dropping mid session and we will all fly our Orbits at the low end of the wind window. Would love to see this

Didn’t think of that test. We didn’t have any issues with the kite in regards to back stalling. It felt like a softer version of 2020 with better low wind performance and no back stall.

@@KookProofActivityCenter I refer to the known backstall of the 2020. A great example of demonstrating that this is fixed would be to have the kites at 12 in light wind. Pull hard on the front lines to show the stall in the 2020, then do the same with the 2021 to show the difference. Hopefully the difference is the issue is fixed in the 2021

I know what you mean but i didn’t have the 12 from 2020 only 2021. I didn’t think of that test. The kite was given for me to test and i don’t have it anymore. We tested it and the issue seams to be fixed.

I have the 2020 12m and have honestly only been able to get the kite to do this when there really isn't even enough wind to fly the kite. At that wind speed, you can't ride, so what's the point of assessing the kite's minor nuances which disappear when you have the proper amount of wind? And when I learned to kite, my instructor was adamant about making sure you are never standing with the kite directly above your head, because a strong gust could loft you, while a lull could cause the kite to drop and tumble uncontrollably...

@@brynmrsh The kite should not stay at 12. 12 is a passage point so it was spot on by your instructor. I've heard about this issue of the kite stalling but I only have the 9 and never had any issue with back stalling.

Is the kite still incredibly slow with the feedback? Last year's model felt like it took forever to respond to bar movements.

I have not felt that. Mine was very responsive and fast. Because it has no pulleys I felt it was very direct. But even last years model I felt the same. Didn’t feel any huge difference between the 2 years but I think it’s a very fast kite. Kiteloops are great, and it’s only possible due to fast turning speed.

This is clearly a marketing review. The kite backstalling issue is even felt in strong wind conditions in the 2021 model. Crazy dangerous

I never had issues with the 2020, and the 2021 has no problems. Back-stalling occurs when the back lines are shorter than the front ones; this is mainly due to pilot error. Any kite can back stall.
