WTF? i've heard joel speak thai before (in mark's video) but didn't notice how his accent was. that is probably the best accent from a foreigner i've ever heard. great job, joel.

@@JoelsTastyRide i have to tell you. i posted that comment before i showed your video to my mother (she loves her chiang mai food). she is utterly nitpicky about accents and pronunciations - we both are - because her mother was a teacher - a STRICT teacher (eg, krub is krub, not kraaaaaaab or kup, kroo is kroo, not koo) - and SHE was completely impressed with your accent. so major kudos.

Not only meat lovers, although there are tons of awesome Northern Thai food meaty choices... its also so great to just venture around eating only vegetarian and vegan menu items here as well! "Northern Thai food is smokey, meaty and spicy" yes!!! Finally someone who captured the lanna food essence!! Also, when you can, bike towards Sankampaeng district and try the restaurant "เฮือนใจ๋ยอง" and try their แกงแคกบ, จอผักปั๋ง, แกงผักเชียงดา, คั่วโฮ๊ะ, สาผักกาดน้อย... all super traditional, home-style, Chiang Mai dishes.

Hi, greetings! Well, the food did help, but in all honesty I did not plan on staying in Thailand all those years ago, it just kinda happened! I had a feeling in my heart, a desire to learn as much as I could about this place (this was after I was already living here with one of my best friends), and after about a year I was just so intrigued... I never left! But yes, the food helps :). every day.

I can imagine plenty of Thai (which would mean Central Thai), but yes this Northern region has several dishes that aren't at all represented in the Central Thai menu... good luck, let me know!

Awesome Nick, thanks for the comment. Yeah, Northern Thai food is a bit overlooked, and wow is it under-rated. The colors can be a bit muted as most things are either boiled or grilled, or both haha, but man the flavor is SO rich, definitely deserves its place in the spectrum of Thailand, its regions of amazing flavor!

Henny, awesome, thats as good a reason as any :). youll find that Thai people LOVE their food, and are VERY friendly to travelers as well. It is a good place to Travel for Food all year round, feel free to ask me for any recommendations as well!
