Ailsa Craig is where all the granite comes from for making curling stones, and a fresh load will have been collected to make the new stones for the next Winter Olympics, also Stranraer is known as having 3 Olympic curlers born and raised here - Vicky Wright , Bobby Lammie & Hammy McMillan they all learned to play at the North West Castle Hotel which has it's own curling rink .

The car park at glencapple quay is about 15 mins drive into Dumfries centre, on the estuary, motorhome bays with request for donations, 24/7 toilets, bins, cafe shop restaurant and pub opposite, best thing the bus to Dumfries stops at the car park . Burns house is ok, but not very realistic as I pointed out on my visit bet it didn’t look like that with 6 kids inside lol….. the main town museum in the old windmill is a fab visit.

Hi Lisa and Mark the George hotel in Stranraer suffered from water ingress and has deteriorated since 2007 it is a class B listed building and the council now own it to safeguard it from further deterioration and its hope to be restored as the george hotel

Stranraer is a lovely wee place, used to be the main ferry port to Ireland, but it's further up the road at Cairnryan now. Round the cost takes you to some beautiful wee places, very windey roads & some very impatient drivers! Loving you being up my way. I've been going to Lendalfoot, between Ballantrae & Girvan, since I was a child, beautiful coastline, very rocky with stunning views of the Ailsa Craig. Enjoy guys x😊

We took our caravan close by there to Seaward caravan park in Kirkcudbright last year and drove to Cairnryan and took a day trip to Belfast as foot passenger - think it was a tenner each but good value as only 2 hour ferry trip then a day in Belfast. Loved this video. Just come back from Scotland after 3 months there. We had our civil partnership in Girvan 16 years ago and have a painting of Ailsa Craig which was a gift from family. Hope you manage to get up to the Cairngorms. Loads of free park ups this time of year near Aviemore. Love to see Mark on skis. 😜

We have a static caravan just outside Stranraer so we are often in the town. Lots of nice places around leswalt has some nice walks and same near Kirkcolm. Looking out on loch Ryan you can see a small pointy island that’s Alsia Craig or paddy’s milestone it where curling stones come from.

Lisa if your intending going into Edinburgh city look up MOrtonhall caravan park,the bus from there going right into the city in 15 mins.Its a really nice site with a pub restaurant called stable bar,lovely food.🍻🍻 haggis neeps an tatties 😜😜 lovely bar going into Edinburgh aswell,on main bus route is the Abbey Bar @Newington xx
