Thank you, Karin! I am moving from the US to Norway in January, and it is SO helpful to hear you speak Norwegian so clearly. I am learning a lot from you, particularly the Norwegian accent!

@dean3195 He`s not lying. Every norwegian children start learning english from they`re at least eight or nine years old . "Rank EF Education First Proficiency Index (EPI EC), shows that small, northern European countries is clearly proficient in English. Of the five countries that scored highest, Norway came in first place"

@MelayaPelter They`re the same and you could use both words for candy, but I would still say that sukkertøy is a kind of candy. It commonly looks like pastilles or have the shape of pills, but its candy allright. Godteri inkludes sukkertøy. Godteri, from the word Godt (tasty). Sukkertøy is combined of the words sukker (sugar) + tøy. Tøy would normally translate into clothing, but in the broades sense it means equipment. Or so I think without beeing a language expert :)

I'm American but my whole family pronounces milk as melk and all the older people including my mother say "ja" although I'm not sure if that is Norwegian. Anyway my grandmother's parents came from western Norway. Maybe that's why we still say melk?

@alesbica you are right. Except of course, that if you multiplied the language speaker's numbers with their income or their media output, English probably gets the better of Hindi/Urdu and even Mandarin. Also more people speak English in China than in the US. Heck, probably more people in Europe speak English than in the US... and it's a lot easier to learn, speaking from experience....

@marlinasarah Nice norwegian! You can say: Takk så veldig mye, but we most commonly say: Tusen Takk! which would mean Thanks a lot! if you translates it directly, it would be: Thanks a thousand times! but Tusen Takk means: Thanks a lot!
