In New England, USA, it's similar. As soon as spring comes, people begin cutting wood for the winter 2 and 3 years hence. This goes on all summer long. Then the wood that was cut the previous year is split and stacked. The wood must age at least 1 year before burning. It never ends.

Ok children, let me tell you a story from long, long ago. Many years before you were born, we had Uncles named Ronald and Mads. And when ever they came to this cabin they had family expectations to keep. You may not want to collect the wood now, but let me tell you something...do you know why we do not use this wood on this side of the woodshed? Thats right, because Uncle Ronald and Uncle Mads chopped all this wood. Just for us to look at and smell. This wood makes us feel safe because there is plenty of chopped wood for us to look at. So we must collect an endless amount so the family 100 years from now can look at the wood we collected. Now quit your whining, ignore the cold and get to work. We only have the weekend to fill the other side. We love you Ronald and Mads, I know the reason you didn't upload sooner is because you were chopping all that wood just so you could do this video! Blessings and safety to us all!

Here in Southern California, we are CRAZY about TACOS. There are no spice packets or boxes of tacos shells here, oh no! That's the fortified wine of tacos, no good at all! As for wood, well...few of us have fireplaces and many of us buy prepackaged logs wrapped in paper called Duraflame logs that only burn for a couple of hours, or buy "camping firewood" which is sold in precut bundles at a very high price, about $6 usd for a bundle of pine that will make a small fire that lasts 3 - 4 hours. 99% of Southern Californians wouldn't know what to do with an axe or a hatchet if they had one, and would think maybe you're a serial killer if they saw one in your garage. Since I have moved to an area that is in a large valley surrounded by mountains, (The Sierra Nevada Range) my passion is now mountains. However I always preferred mountains. My family used to vacation in our California Mountains. That is probably why. Also we would visit the Cascade Mountain Range in Washington State way up north of us. My brother moved there. Probably more familiar to those of us in the Northern USA...Electric fireplaces are not welcome in areas with frequent power outages. Parents used to say "a little hard work never killed anyone". Here in Colorado, at least in the urban areas, wood burning fireplaces in homes built since the 1980s are not permitted. There are many, many days during the winter where old, wood burning stoves/fireplaces cannot be used as they cause too much particulate pollution. (We call them “red level” days.) So, cozy up to our ubiquitous gas log fireplaces and we’ll need to get some pine scent air fresheners to make you feel like you’re back in Norway!

I've Rowan, Elder, and SilverBirch, wood, and a cherry tree all in my garden, all blot out the sun since i'm fair skinned. I wouldn't have it any other way. Mind you the Valley i live in is full of trees but if you are up for a challenge try and make elderberry wine.
