Yes Doug, that was the whole idea. Those Predators you saw during the entire film were hunters in training and killing the aliens is their test. They're supposed to kill a xenomorph in close combat before being allowed to use the laser canons. Those Predators had been watching the whole time. I haven't seen this movie in a long time but I remember they mentioned this.

Actually, the original plot behind Alien vs Predator was that the Predators were going through a manhood ritual by fighting the xenomorphs. The idea goes that a group of young-adult/teenager Predators would go to the pyramid and use that time to become seasoned hunters by killing the xenomorphs. The ancient humans worshiping the Predators as gods was more so to make it easier to breed a controlled amount of xenomorphs. The Predators in AVP were in a sense being watched by their elders to see if they would become men by showing dominance over the Xenomorphs. If the proofed worthy, the Predators were honored and if they failed, well they died. This idea was scrapped in late development, or at least omitted, because it seemed to imply that the Predators hunting Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Glover were children. (And when you look at the Predator series that way, it ruins it just a little.) Personally, I like the idea of the pyramid being a place for Predators to train their younger peers. It defiantly makes the movie a little more interesting.
@ericspearman29987 жыл бұрын
That still is the plot. It is stated in the film itself. It is a right of passage for the three teenage Predators. If they succeed they become what is called "blooded" members of their tribe. And as for Doug not knowing why the Predators use the pyramids it is because they don't want to wipe out humanity. And the Predators that hunted Arnold and Danny were adults. They like hunting humans because of our intelligence compared to most creatures and they consider it sporting to hunt prey that can fight back. Predators do go by an honor code. They only hunt those that are armed. Pregnant women and children and the elderly or infirm are off limits. Predators, for all their viciousness, are not interested in taking over the universe. They just want to hunt for the sport and honor it brings them in their tribe. And they will not let the Xenos wipe out humanity because that would mean the loss of a great prey for them.

The best thing about it other than the fights was the interaction between Alexa Woods and the Predator. You have this creature that could bitch-slap her to death or just sent her flying like a rag-doll but doesn't when she earns its... mercy and they join forces against a common enemy. Its like Beauty & the Beast if there was no romance and Gaston was uglier :P

You guys bring up alot of good points. The reason why I loved Aliens best because it had good consistency in terms of story and exciting parts. Sure it had a slow start because of the fact the story had to establish Ripley coming to terms with what she had dealt with when nobody would believe her story until shit hit the fan. After 1/5th of the film, it was exciting. You had these badass soldiers showing off, you got that dropship scene where they go onto the planet, and then you have that perfect buildup leading into the first encounter with the Xenomorphs, and then everyone doing what they could to survive while figuring out what to do to get off the planet. Even the queen scene was unexpected and it made the escape that much more thrilling.

For those who are confused about the Predalien, here's basic the Xenomorph life cycle when a facehugger impregnates a host the embryo steals DNA from the host to prevent it being killed by the immune system but that also gives the adult form characteristics of the host as shown in Alien3 with the dog alien, the normal Xenomorph, and of course the Predalien.

IMO AvP is a fairly boring poorly written and directed film with talented actors and crew that sadly hits it's stride roughly 30 minutes before it ends. It has some genuinely cool scenes, decent performances, practical effects and creatures, and a neat premise. If done without aliens or predators i could see this as a good Lovecraftian style horror film. FvJ IMO goes beyond being funny bad into being so bad it's nauseating and has no truly redeeming qualities aside from the fact that some people like how bad it is. I would equate the feeling of watching FvJ to being locked in a hot car with the flu and having a baby screaming constantly. (Really, it felt worse than being sick on Christmas) I can still remember being legitimately scared while watching FvJ in theaters, not because it was scary in the least but because i was afraid i was going to vomit in public.

Kinda surprised there wasn't much mention of Predators, since that movie does revolve around a group of warriors, like a Black Ops guy, Spetsnaz, Yakuza, a Medellin Cartel guy, FBI's most wanted, and so on, being dropped on the Predator planet for them to be hunted. I mean that movie's more okay than anything, but that's another one in the Predator series they seemed to forget about. And Shane Black's doing a new Predator movie for next year (funny because he was Hawkins in the first one), so let's see how that turns out!

The "predators built the pyramids" thing in AvP comes from the same place as "engineers made humans" in Prometheus. It's died down now, but in the 1970s and 80s this was a common mainstream science fiction idea, basically started by the book Chariots Of The Gods.

Also, the idea - as I figure - is that the temple was used mainly to contain the Xenomorphic species as well as selectively breed the creatures so that their numbers didn't go out of control. The temple itself was where new bloods - young predators - would go to hunt and prove themselves as warriors.
@IBrowneeI7 жыл бұрын
The cool thing with the Xenomorphs in particular was they still used a suit/puppet for the most part, but the CGI Aliens when they were necessary looked like they should. Complain about CGI all you want, but when a shit load of Xenomorphs are on the scene, they're like a swarm of bugs, climbing the walls, making fast fluent motions and whatnot. There's just some things they're supposed to do that a human in a suit can't, and to the movies credit, they make it look pretty fantastic. When a bunch of the Xenomorphs find the queen and release her, the whole scene is mostly CGI effects, but it looks really really good. The kind where I could believe they're in the screen. Although while it was necessary for the Aliens, it looks a little worse when it's upscaled. The Queen when she's released still looked alright, but not nearly as good as the drones.

@The_Texorcist7 жыл бұрын
This is why I prefer the dark horse comics over the movie. The comics didn't try to complicate it by having the predators become gods to humans so that they can sacrifice themselves in order to "birth" aliens for the predators to hunt... nope they just find a planet they think is devoid of intelligent life, send a drop ship full of eggs and wait till the native wildlife become impregnated with the alien life and then down they go to hunt. Also the comics explain it better that these hunts are a right of passage, that a blooded predator takes the unblooded on the hunt so they can hopefully show their worth as hunters and earn their position in their clan.

Please do Real Thoughts on The Master of Disguise. One of the most surreal, baffling bad movies I have ever seen. The turtle scene crosses over to borderline failed Dada art. I think what disappointed me the most about this film, is that it opted to tell it's story in modern day. While all the AVP comics and video games all took place in the far future. Actually you're right about the other Predators observing, a test is literally exactly what it is. They've confirmed as much elsewhere. This whole thing with the xenomorphs is kind of a rite of passage thing.

To answer the question of this being a test... Yes! This whole thing was a rite of passage for the Predators. The other predators were there to judge them and decide whether or not they should pass, not interfering for the sake of the test.

Tom Rothman, is now chairman of Sony Pictures and the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fox Filmed Entertainment, the parent company of Twentieth Century Fox. Everywhere I go on the internet, when this guy is mentioned, it's always in a very negative light. For instance, under Rothman's watch, Fox's movies (particularly their summer blockbusters) are mandated to not run under two hours in order to fit in more theater showings (thus automatically guaranteeing more money). Things that Fox under Tom Rothman's eye has been bashed for (as far as I know): *Editing "Die Hard 4" to make it a PG-13 film even though the previous three, had been R-rated. This pretty much meant that Bruce Willis couldn't say John McClaine's trademark "Yippie-ki-ya, mother ****er!" line as it was fully intended. *The mismanagement of the production for "X-Men 3". For instance: **Not waiting for Bryan Singer to finish working on "Superman Returns", and not having a replacement director until I believe weeks before filming was due to start. And when a director is finally hired, it's Brett Ratner, who has grown a reputation for being a hack, douchbag, MTV music video, action director. **Not waiting for several actors (e.g. James Marsden, Rebecca Romjin, and Anna Paquin) to take care of prior engagements before filming. For in the process, certain characters were "killed off" as a matter of convinence. **Seemingly rushing the production as means of retailiating against Bryan Singer for heading off to make "Superman Returns" (which also opened in the summer of 2006). **Tom Rothman also allegedly didn't want Sentinels (the gigantic, mutant hunting robots) appearing in an X-Men film because he believed that audiences would immediately think that giant robots appearing in live-action would be too "silly". This was of course, before "Transformers" (a movie for which Tom Rothman allegedly turned down) came out. *Ordering Ridley Scott to edit his movie "Kingdom of Heaven" to make it look like a more formulaic action-adventure film, when Scott intended for it to be much deeper. *Having "Daredevil" edited to make it appear more like a summer blockbuster (i.e. more CGI) in the mode of "Spider-Man". "Daredevil" was initially conceived as a more violent, R-rated film in the mold of Frank Miller's run with the comics. *Not giving the "Fantastic Four" films a better budget, to go along with hirining Tim Story (who is primarily known as a comedic director rather than a sci-fi, action-adventure director) and aiming for a campy, cookie-cutter, sitcomy feel. Rothman also allegedly thought that it would be better for us to see Galactus as a cloud. *Trashing plans for an "ID4" sequel. *Browbeating "LXG" director Stephen Norrington until he quit the business altogether. Rothman also allegedly almost convinced "I, Robot" director Alex Proyas to give up filmmaking.

The cross overs are into the comics if I remember well. At least there is "Alien VS Predator VS Witchblade VS Darkness" ^^

L.A. isn't exactly Disney world, especially during the 80's and 90's where this movie took place. Gang violence was at a all time high, it made sense to me, that the predator would land there.

AVP is a party movie. Something you put on ion the background while chatting with guests and eating junk food.

I would pay to get an Aliens vs Predators vs Terminators vs Gremlins crossover.

Tom Rothman said no to Alien 5 by James Cameron and Ridley Scott because "We have a good script for AVP."

I saw a few clips from behind the scenes for the movie, they tried to put in a lot of work with that head slicing scene, and the alien suits.

"Guilty pleasure". That's exactly what I thought yesterday, when I bought it on Bluray.

To resume you guys don't like Alien 3, Resurrection, AVP I and II, predator II, is that it ? Maybe you guys also hated Predator Origins! ( PS I didn't include Prometheus on purpose, this one is not defendable...)

25:30 Yes, that is an actual thing all three of them with Ripley 8 and it is not the best of crossovers but not the worst.

20:20 In T2 and 3 Arnold is the old ass model going against an advanced liquid metal robot, that's a big reason of why we care for him in those movies. Also in Kindergarten Cop he gets mentally abused by a bunch of kids and since he cant beat the shit out of them he's pretty much powerless.

Oh come on. LA in the 80s and 90s was one of the most violent places on Earth. I always find Predator 2 fascinating over the fact a special ops soldier couldn't defeat the Predator, but an LAPD detective could?

21:09 you mean like PREDATORS 3 ????WHY EVERYONE FORGOTS THAT FILM????

I mention yet again that there's an "Unrated" Director's cut for the film. You get your gore back as well as a few bits of context.

Completely different opening and a good 8 extra mintues of story/character building.

It was kind of sad to hear them talking about Ridley Scott ruining his style and totally forgot The Martian.

The Bishop android was created 174 years after my time. Alien takes place 2122, Alien Isolation 2137, Aliens 56 years after Alien or 2178.
