The series is dead, but it at least died with the grace of an angel. You can't sling mud at the franchise. The worst you can say is that X's graphics aren't great or that GP Legend and Climax aren't the F-Zero titles people wanted. But *every* F-Zero game is master class, hardware pushing racing in their own respective rights. There is no mediocre or bad F-Zero. Hardly even a dated F-Zero.There's no lame practices attached to any entry that sullies the experience. Any compromises were negligible and made up for elsewhere in the name of excessive performance, content, and speed. Like WipEout, this is just a pristine series of wholesome games. The Blue Falcon sits in a hangar somewhere just glistening and that's a good takeaway from all this. ;)

@Nacho Libre Maybe it would be reasonable by Nintendo's standards to demonstrate new forms of user input with the touch screen. We could have customized consoles that take gestures or combinations of presses so players can perform things like an exaggerated boost, have their machine make a guided path (like clairvoyance in skyrim), or change their vehicles balancing mid-race. The screen could also have a mod that is used for detecting nearby vehicles, there could be a mod that takes the mod of the last racer you spin into, or have sliders that adjust the sensitivity of input for things like drifting. many possibilities!

the problem with this argument is that it opens the door to just endless remakes of every game and no new games ever releasing since you can allways say "you cant play that which has been done before". same logic applies to the endless row of FIFA, Battlefield,CoD,etc. games out there. any yearly franchise really. and do you really want that to happen?
@Martial_Autist6 жыл бұрын
@@derfalschelennox365 Better than what we have now, which is no F-zero since the GC days. You don't always need new gimmicks to keep a franchise going, and adding new gimmicks for the sake of adding them doesn't automatically make for a better game (at times it can even make a game worse or at least certain aspects of it). GX already just about reached the pinnacle of what an F-zero (or racing game in general) could and should be. And instead of seeing that nintendo decided to just let it die, right when it reached a level of epicness and refinement every franchise aspires to attain in it's respective genre. All they need to do is build on that foundation by going bigger, better, and longer in terms of the game's scope. More tracks, more racers/cars, more car parts, possibly a more expansive story mode that goes beyond [cutscene>gimmick race>cutscene] and actually lets you experience the F-zero world to some degree (maybe even semi-open world career mode), custom track builder, proper online multiplayer, etc. They shouldn't go full on fifa, but there should at least be one F-zero game per gen. Though honestly at this point I'd take a bare bones port over the complete absence of F-zero we currently have.

Unfortunately, there is a disconnect between Nintendo and their audience. Miyamoto, for all his talent, has one major blind spot: he sees games only through the lens of a game designer and not as a game player. What he's forgetting is that gamers want to see more of the world and content of F-Zero, not just new gameplay mechanics. Miyamoto is right when he says the series can't evolve past GX in terms of game design, but we F-Zero fans don't care--we just want to experience more of the fun and wild F-Zero universe. Anybody that hasn't seen Sean Malstrom's blog should look into it. He thoroughly explores the importance of content in games over everything else, even gameplay.

I don't understand why Miyamoto is so against a new entry. You do not need to create something new only to justify a new entry. Look at BF and Cod. What are they doing each entry. Still the same. A GX 2.0 would be amazing on Switch. More tracks, more drivers (Climax timeline), online mutliplayer, track editor, a better story mode (Like Climax?) and Boost Fire :-) Would that not be enough? I mean, the people cry for a new F-Zero so just bring them what they want.

I think it's a pride thing with Nintendo. They take pride in thinking outside of the box and creating games with purpose. I think that F Zero is coming back eventually though, it's like what was mentioned in the video, it wouldn't of worked with the Wii's gimmicks nor the Wii U's, yet they even did try to make one for the Wii U. Due to the switch feeling like a more standard platform and Nintendo moving away from the target of fairly casual game players with the switch, I would guess that F Zero is likely more now than ever before.
@dantehernandez78396 жыл бұрын
I'm with you brother, I think Nintendo is eventually going to have to set foot upon the land of remakes again (they remade windwaker in wiiu) because just coming up with new ways to see and play a game aren't everything, it's about what the story, display and interactions the game has, why do you think 8 bit games like shovel knight have become popular over the recent years? Graphics aren't everything! And nintendo better take note and do justice to this franchise, I just see so much potential nintendo hasn't used, it frustrates me!
@johnrose8796 жыл бұрын
They won't make one though without something to add to it. CoD and BF are the same, yes, but they are also selling. Like the video said, F Zero saw a decline in sales with every release, despite trying to showcase something new with each title. In Nintendo's eyes, F Zero was NOT a successful franchise. At least not compared to their other IP. Unless they find a fit for a new system feature, gaming engine, or rendering technology or something that fits well into a F Zero game, I'd pretty much plan on not ever seeing another new F Zero again. Which is a shame, like most of the folks watching this video, I loved the franchise, and X and GX were a couple of my favorite games. I'm hoping for that new shiny technology, whatever it may be, that sparks the flame for F Zero once again. But until then, I'll be over here with my GameCube and component cables, because damn, GX can still rip your face off at 480p. I can only imagine this game at 1080p. *droooool*
@XRavishX6 жыл бұрын
That's the thing with Nintendo. As described in the video, Nintendo doesn't iterate for the sake of iteration or just to improve one thing here or there like BF and CoD. Nintendo is the way it is, their games are as beloved as they are, because each game they make is something new. I agree with the sentiment that it's difficult to come up with something actually new for the game. Yes, there are small things that can make the current experience better such as higher resolutions and improved multiplayer, but those things aren't new in gaming, they're just new for F-Zero. Something different has to come along for Nintendo to think that F-Zero is the game to make. The way I see it, F-Zero probably won't get made fresh until VR is, if ever, mainstream, and we have full force-feedback chairs in every house. F-Zero would benefit from being a full-body experience that no other types of games would necessarily benefit from. One would play F-Zero for the same reason one rides roller coasters. Unfortunately, I don't really see that ever happening. So, in the meantime, I'll just play my copy of F-Zero, on top of my car, while someone does their best to mimic my movements as we both drive.

Make brutally hard tracks inspired by the mod F-Zero: The Revenge. Throw in a massive track editor and vehicle customization. Add in passive abilities (similar to Redout), not just boost power. Of course, a no-brainer - online mp. Create a story mode that's not cheesy (GX was super cheesy) and gives life to all the F-Zero characters. C'mon, Nintendo. I'm sick of this "we dunno what direction to go in" excuse. We're now at the point where a simple HD remaster of GX would be considered good enough for most people... but you don't have to do just that, because the fans have already given you enough ideas to make an adequate sequel. Hell, you don't even have to remaster it, just slap a Gamecube emulator on the Switch and do a straight port, it's still a beautiful looking game. Besides, by this point the people who played F-Zero are grown up. There's an entirely new generation of kids out there who have never played F-Zero and likely don't even know what it is. There aren't even any racers on the market right now that are like F-Zero, so it would be like an entirely new concept to them. This is why I'm a little afraid of a new F-Zero, if Nintendo did make one. They'd want to "innovate" or change it for innovation's sake and even if that makes it a good game in its own right, it probably wouldn't be the F-Zero that I know and love. What do I want new for F-Zero that hasn't been done before? ...Nothing. After over a decade, I just want my fix!
@kujiko886 жыл бұрын
This. This is exactly what my viewpoint is. X was fantastic, GX upped on X in every way (even if I prefer the ost for X), the first 2 games were brilliant, the GBA games were excellent. Nintendo has a winning formula here, and with the death of Wipeout, F-Zero would reign king of it's genre. Redout wouldn't be able to compete with F-Zero's pedigree and history, despite it's quality as a game and it's awesome sense of speed. Nintendo needs to just do what nintendo does. Make the game with all the love and care they put into all their first-party games and they'll have a success. It might be a cult success, but a cult success can grow. Look at Ico and the Shadow of Colossus games. Or Drakengard. A new F-Zero would only do good for Nintendo, and show their fans that they can still make a blisteringly fast racing game with no compromises.

Nintendo needs to understand that the only thing that needs to be new in their sequels are the levels and the story. And the only thing that they need to do with the gameplay is make it tighter and better. Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Smash Bros and their other franchises have always been the same but bigger and better with each entry and thats okay. Starfox zero proved that philosophy they have about needing innovations with the gameplay is detrimental. Great video btw.
@chrismdb56866 жыл бұрын
I disagree about Mario and even more about Smash, each entry in both series is very different from both the former and the latter in the same series. Pokémon has always been a fairly lazy copy and paste job with no effort put into the game aside from composing new music and making new sprites though (mostly because Gamefreak is beyond incompetent). The innovation requirement is fantastic in some cases (look at any of the Mario games, 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy as fantastic examples), and completely unnecessary in others (Star Fox Zero - although it was doomed from the start considering there's only ever been one decent game in the series).

@@Crocodile7104 I suppose if you intend to say that since all Mario games are platformers and are relatively similar then you're right, I was referring to how each iteration consistently builds on what the past entries have but also adds in completely new mechanics. @@megasoniczxx I'd say Brawl was a massive game changer and definitely different from Melee, Smash 4 was a huge game changer from Brawl, and Ultimate was the same to Smash 4, none of them play remotely the same (unless you want to pull the "they're all fighting games/platform brawlers/party games"). There's also a difference between making a fighting game and making a platformer, RPG, etc., to where fighting games don't need a new gimmick or other innovation to be fresh and game changing. Look at Tekken Tag 2 and Tekken 7 for example, the same basic gameplay is there but the addition of the rage mechanic and new characters on the roster makes it unmistakably different from its predecessors (for good and bad).

Great video man. I really appreciate that you didn't classify the Fast series as an "F-Zero Successor" as many people do. The overall mentality of Nintendo has changed since the Wii / Wii U era as shown by the changes in Zelda and Smash, they are trying to cater to a more mature audience, and F-Zero fits the bill. I find it very unlikely that Nintendo will develop the next F-Zero, however. Which is not a bad thing, Miyamoto has destroyed Paper Mario with his insistence on Gameplay features, as you mentioned, they would've had to dumb down F-Zero for motion controls. I'd much prefer no game over a bad game, poor Star Fox. I imagine Shin'en or Retro to develop the next entry. I attempted a couple years ago to build a F-Zero clone with the Unity Engine but I just could not get the controls right and I could not figure out a way to make tube shaped tracks that you're magnetically stuck to when upside down. I still have the project on my PC in case I ever decide to try again but I don't see it happening. I would love a switch f-zero. I put off getting a switch all this time because there aren't many games I want but an f-zero title would push me to it.

Wish YT wasn't shit so I could actually tag you so you can see this, but...Rotate the world instead of the player. Pretty sure that's how they did it in Psychonauts. It's not the same thing, but similar mechanics. Or a better solution; you could have a mesh at the bottom of your vehicle, that points the gravity towards the normal of the mesh. So when you go around the tube, as the vehicle tilts, it's pulled towards the normal, and therefore the center of the tube.

im pretty sure in fzero x and gx/ax. the tubes where just a spline. (a line going between two or more points) where for gravity it just calculated the shortest straight line to the spline, and the angle of that line is set to be the gravity for your vehicle. thus you always get pulled towards the cylinder or into the walls of a tube. and for collisions it simply checks if that line is shorter or longer than the radius of the cylinder/tube.

I agree with the points you give in your video! One thing I had in mind is that a future F-Zero game can do is perhaps bring old tracks from previous games kind of how Mario Kart DS began with the Retro Grand Prix by bring back old tracks along with their music. In particular, it would be great to see how SNES courses would be revamped if Nintendo went with this.

the saddest part about this is that not only did thye refuse to remaster GX on the switch ***which ould be epic*** but they also refused to make a massive online F-Zero that would work like Splatoon does, Nintendo sees what companies do when their another companies title loses availability when it was atually good and say "what the fuck kind of person does that?" F-Zero doesnt need to evolve. it needs to become bigger, not in scale in Playability and Replayability
@digitalunity4 жыл бұрын
The fact that Miyamoto doesn't know what to add means that F-Zero GX must have been perfect. Other companies would then bleed this dry with release after release, each one functionally identical but with new maps and a new story. This game could be for Nintendo what Call of Duty is for Treyarch. The ultimate Cash Cow. The Holy Grail. It needs no introduction, it needs no change. Each new game for each new generation only needs a graphical upgrade, a balance tweak, a bugfix, and a new set of maps.

Your video was just posted on a popular reddit subreddit, r/games, and boy oh boy the amount of people commenting the same thing you said because they didn't watch that video is staggering. Anyways, I want to say thank you for this video. I was lucky and downloaded a rom of F-Zero GX before Nintendo came down hard on rom sites, and it completely changed my view on the series. F-Zero GX is a game unparalleled. Its visual quality is astounding, especially for a Gamecube game. The gameplay is the most fun and challenging I've ever experienced in a racing game, and Mario Kart isn't comparable. There's a sense of speed, challenge, you're not just playing grand prix tourneys to unlock every racer, you're actively challenging yourself to complete these insane tasks of speed. One big part of FZGX that stands out to me is how a lot of the actual race-tracks are more like single-obstacle obstacle courses, as evidenced by their names. I think that's by far the weakest part of the game, aside from the fucking atrocious FMVs that are included. It's not a bad aspect on its own, not at all, it's great for a single-player experience. You're tasked with figuring out what vehicle is best for each GP, for each track, because every track is wildly different in its challenge. The first few tracks are simple and you can easily get through them with a non-garbage vehicle, but as you go through the GPs, it becomes harder and harder to even place in the top 15. I spent at least a week just trying to find a vehicle that could beat the last GP, and I still never got around to finding one that I could succeed with. An easy way to improve the game would be to take the Mario kart approach of creating a great setting for the course first. There aren't really big setpieces that fit specific courses, the most notable is the first track in Mario Kart 8, the giant 8, and the giant cannon in the DK Mountain track from Double Dash, but otherwise every game has Circuits for specific characters. every game has a variation of Bowser's Castle, every game has a variation of Rainbow Road. Meanwhile, the challenges presented in the GX tracks are pretty much the only thing that make the separate tracks stand out, settings are re-used, music tracks are re-used, it's like what Mario Kart SNES did, and it's a bit outdated. If they really put effort in, there could be some AMAZING tracks in the game that transcend their challenge and become iconic for the series, just like Rainbow Road. Each Rainbow Road built off of eachother in presentation, from a simple flat track, to a giant wide looping track with a bunch of floating rainbow objects, to one with a GIANT warp pipe, to one with a fucking loop-de-loop in a DS game, on and on. I think the first big step besides actual 30-human races is making tracks, instead of obstacle courses, because a good obstacle course you may come back to to test your best time on now and then, but good tracks you find yourself playing again and again. But I digress. F-Zero is not like any other game, and people that are just parroting what you mentioned in the video (Miyamoto going on and on about "we don't know what we could do with a new iteration", the anime crossover flopping even though the final scene of the anime alone now has a cult following, "people don't know or care about F-zero" even though that's a blatant fucking lie and Captain Falcon alone is proof of that, as well as the constant references to the series) have no clue just how impactful a new F-Zero could be in the gaming scene today. Imagine an actual competitive racer. Mario Kart is fun, but as you said, it's a party game first. You play it just to goof around with friends, have a good time, and a relatively small following plays them for their actual competitive nature, whether that be speedrunning or "competitive play". F-Zero is like a fighting game, you can't just hop in and have a good time, there's skill gating. Like I said, I still couldn't beat the final GP in GX after a good week of bashing my head against it, and while it was annoying having to reset to the fucking giant-ass boring 1-2-3 lane track every time I flew off the magma course too many times, it was still a challenge I enjoyed doing, I loved trying out the different vehicles, seeing whether they suited me and could help me reach first place. There's no items, there's no Lakitu to bring you back to the course if you fall off, the race is a challenge, and if you screw up, you lose. F-Zero is a good fucking racing series, and it's definitely one-of-a-kind. There's literally no reason I could think of that the game wouldn't do well if released on the Switch, it'd fit perfectly with the single joy-con control. Needless to say, your video touched me, and I appreciate seeing it on reddit, even if the people in the comment section of the thread would rather repeat what you said about Miyamato and sales ad nauseam instead of taking a constructive approach and asking "well, why couldn't F-Zero work now exactly?". I'd love nothing more than a new, GOOD F-Zero game, and while Nintendo is a great gaming company in some areas, like creativity, accessibility, and quality, they're ass-backwards in many other ways, and their line of thinking is one of them. F-Zero wasn't just a flash in the pot. It was a landmark for both Nintendo and racing games. It deserves a second life instead of just fading into obscurity because Nintendo can't think of anything to do besides surgically removing features from it and implanted them into Mario Kart's DNA in haphazard ways. EDIT: Also, this just sprang to mind, but might i recommend checking out the original Sonic Riders? Much like F-Zero after GX, the games released after the original were pale shells of its former glory, but the original Sonic Riders has a unique sense of speed and control that, while not exactly like F-Zero in terms of challenge, also makes an insanely fun racing game. There's a much bigger focus on doing tricks, maintaining Air (unlike F-Zero you can't die, the closest feature is being forced to get off your board and walk at a snail's pace), and the three-Class gimmick, where different shortcuts and routes can only be accessed by different characters or vehicles, but it does iterate somewhat on the F-Zero experience. It's much more of a challenge than it is a party game, and considering it got 2 sequels (which were both shite), I'd say that's a pretty good argument that even a year after F-Zero GX, people were still craving a fun, creative, pretty, yet challenging racing game beyond riding on a car with wheels and drifting.

Thanks for the comment dude, kind of reeling at the moment, I did wonder what there were so many people all of a sudden! GX really is a fantastic game. I mostly come to games for solid gameplay over everything else, and whenever i think of how to explain that to people, GX is always the game my mind goes to first. It's that physics engine, and how you learn to control that gives the game its huge skill ceiling. It's such a shame the track editor hadn't returned for GX, what I would give for a few new tracks after all these years! Shame the modding community seems to be pretty thin. While it's not the same thing, Fast's level aesthetics were absolutely stunning, I just with that game controlled anywhere near as great as GX. Thank you so much for dropping by mate!

"Nintendo doesn't just release the same old game with a coat of paint often." Exhibit A: Mario Kart 1-8, then 8 Deluxe Exhibit B: New Super Mario Bros, basically an HD Super Mario Bros although it was fun and did well, had 4 games and another "deluxe" version for the switch Exhibit C: Mario Party Exhibit D: Pokemon; now every pokemon game is different, because of the pokemon and a few more mechanics here and there, but if I played Pokemon Red then went to Pokemon Sword, it wouldn't feel very different, in terms of gameplay at least. LOZ passes because some of those games were revolutionary, even considered the best ones of their time, or all time.

Miyamoto wants the next F-Zero game to be massively creative, but one of my favorite Nintendo franchises, Super Smash Bros, doesn't exactly reinvent the wheel every iteration. Hell, we're still using the Gamecube controllers for Smash Ultimate and having a blast. I realize that's his excuse, but it just seems so arbitrary.
@Uppercut926 жыл бұрын
But that’s the problem, as much as I agree. With F-zero’s inconsistent sales they can’t just go back to basics like in Smash. Smash is a huge success, so its not as much of a risk. But they don’t see as a company the way we do as consumers. If a new F-Zero game comes out, people will be exited for it. Especially since there are die hard fans and a new wave of gamers with a switch. I just hope they give it a shot.
@SmallSpoonBrigade6 жыл бұрын
I suspect the difference is that each installment of F-Zero wasn't selling as well as the previous one and combine that with the apparent fact that the designers of the series aren't getting a charge out of updating it, you wind up with no new games. And I can't blame them for that. If it's not something that's going to help pay the bills in a significant way and it's not going to improve the company's reputation beyond a cult audience either, then it's probably not something they're going to feel like doing. There's also the issue of clones like Distance and Nitronic rush doing much of what a current version of F-Zero would do.

I like Pokemon, I like fighting games, it was made by the people who make Tekken... and it was really fun! The thing is Nintendo didn't think it would be a success so they just didn't advertise it... at all. What a tragedy; VERY few teams in the world have the specialized skills to make a big fighting game, they tie them up TEKKEN developers for years of all people, and then sabotage the end result. I don't get Nintendo... the value is in their IPs, yet they will lose money to push novel hardware that they LOSE money on while they either let popular IPs die or screw them over.

Myamoto we want this: 1) a good, mature story mode settled in a futuristic world with an 80's sci-fi comic atmosphere. The stories of each character cross one another, and completing the stories the player can unlock upgrades which change both the performance AND the aesthetics of the vehicle (Blue Falcon will always be Blue Falcon but, for example, will have longer wings, bigger boosters with longer exhaust etc.). 2) We want more relistic interaction, for exaple if a vehicle follows another in close proximity, the exhaust of the vehicle in front will damage the vehicle behind. We want more detailed backgraunds for the tracks, we want new tracks and a track editor. 3) We want story related online tournaments, competitions and races on a monthly schedule in wich players of the same level can compete to win titles and improve their rankings. 4) We want more technical parameter for each vehicle and overall we want all of this with the same speed as F-Zero GX and the same music as F-Zero X. Smash bros is the same game it was on N64, and still fun to play, it sells well, why F-Zero should be any different? MYAMOTO-SAN PLEASE ALLOW A NEW F-ZERO TO BE BORN

I don't understand why this series got dropped. Yes I know it hadn't sold as nearly as much as other franchises. So what? There are clearly a lot of people clamoring for a new F-Zero game for nearly two decades. Hell Mario Kart 8 used F-Zero's anti gravity. One of the developers even said it would better fit F-Zero. However despite that it didn't pan out. Mario Kart is great but it should not be a F-Zero substitute. We can have both. Late 2017 there was Fast Racing Neo. Which was essentially a F-Zero game without it's characters. It was praised through and through. The development team could easily be purchased by Nintendo to develop a new F-Zero game. We would be set if only that would happen. So why hasn't it? F-Zero and a lot of other ingored Nintendo franchises don't deserve such treatment.
@Zeoxis64 жыл бұрын
Damn, the F-Zero X opening gave me chills. I grew up playing this on my 64, and still have both. I was almost the only person I knew who could ever really play this game due to the speed and difficulty, and I loved it. The aesthetic, the fucking amazing music, even the simplistic visuals. It's a very vivid presence in my memory. I have Redout, but I feel like we need a more direct spiritual if not actual successor to the F-Zero series. At the very least, I still haven't played GX yet, and this reminded me that I need to order it.
@custom-r6 жыл бұрын
No doubt, nothing new concerning the topic, however, this gives me even more hope that we will finally get the first party racer we deserve. Frankly, saying that F-Zero can't be improved on will always sound like an excuse when I see Fire Emblem, Star Fox, Animal Crossing, Metroid, Smash Bros., Mario Tennis... There will always be an area to improve in. Multiplayer is definitely it in F-Zero games. Still I would like them to allow players to create tracks as JP only games had that feature. Sure we get customized machines in GX, but creating courses will always be a highly desired concept along with online races. I may also sound like a traditionalist, but I also am opposed to F-Zero becoming more open world as others seem to want. Unless it's a spinoff, such an idea has no business being a mainline entry. Excellent video above all, though.
@thelastcoolguyonearth48586 жыл бұрын
Not to mention the boat loads of NSMB games, and all the Deluxe editions of games being ported to the switch. Like making F-Zero GX HD would be super easy, even if sales slumped, it's not like an HD rerelease would need that much money to produce.

The reason most Nintendo franchises get sequels is because they fit a genre and a core audience that can both please people who already know the genre or get people into it. With Mario Kart 8, while not F-Zero, being very very similar, I don't think they'll make an F-Zero just because its an IP The same goes for Kid Icarus, who never got a sequel until it fit a new genre and is honestly not gonna see a sequel any time soon
@OnEiNsAnEmOtHeRfUcKa6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, a lot of people don't realize how many rescources an open world would drain away from the core gameplay elements that make F-Zero what it is and need to be as strong as possible. It'd be a comparatively bland experience unless it was handled in a minimal, novel manner and just isn't what the game is focused around. One thing I will say though is that vehicle customization combined with online functionality could lead to some great things, making it easy to build relationships with other drivers even across multiple races and sort of tell your own stories. But perhaps that's just me being fanciful.
@custom-r6 жыл бұрын
@@OnEiNsAnEmOtHeRfUcKa Yep, hit the nail on the head. A more, well, action/adventure based game would take considerable time, resources, and drain the budget which could be used for much more useful things. And as proven, games can still succeed without straying too hard from the core. In fact, its far more feasible to maintain the core and add minimal changes (like a built in track editor, sharing, 12 man online racers, etc.)
@turboDrowsy3 жыл бұрын
@@modelingcloy218 You know, I would think that in the world of Nintendo, the idea of making slightly different games made for a “racing” crowd (which isn’t in itself, the same audience they’re trying to reach for in the demographic) being the reason why F-Zero games get made. Yet we also live in a world where Kirby and Yoshi can be sold on the same console, as well as stuff like Advance Wars and Fire Emblem (which only demonstrates how lame this excuse is).
