hii i’d like to add something more to consider (specifically for Nan/Connor). I can’t help but notice a lot of their comments/audience appears to be black women and it really makes me think about the content I used to engage with. It’s fairly rare to see black women, especially dark skinned black women, loved out loud in media - there aren’t many forms of media featuring healthy love with black women at the center. I think this has led to many of us clinging to the scraps we receive, even if it’s not healthy or realistic, because it validates our desire to be loved, valued, seen, and adored (the same desires anyone has!) I think about the content on KZbin I clung to as an adolescent that was CLEARLY scripted (and oftentimes unhealthy), but featured women who looked like me being valued and loved. And how comforting that was to me when the world tried to tell me the opposite. But then, I consider the unrealistic expectations this media perpetuated and how it shaped my ideas and perception of love as I grew up and engaged in relationships..I went from feeling unlovable to having expectations no individual could fulfill. I can’t help but wonder if that unfortunate cycle is repeating itself.

Who knows, I might be posting crying videos if I didn’t have my friends, boyfriend and therapist.
@CinnamonBunBunify3 ай бұрын
I'll be honest that in times when I have absolutely no one to listen to me or there, I'll do what I call a video diary. I vent and pour my heart out in a video. In a way, I feel like someone is listening to me. It helps distract me, and I end up feeling better after the vent. It's kinda sad when explaining it or doing it, but it has and can help me so much. I just can't see myself posting it unless I truly felt so alone and wanted someone to care, even if it was a stranger online or trying to reach out for help somehow. I usually delete it after I feel better but I've also had some times I go back and it's kinda a way to show me how far I've come or what I was feeling in that moment. Makes me realize things can change and heal. In that moment, it feels like everything can end. So I feel proud of myself I got through it.

Iiii can comment on this as someone who has taken T and had different lacrymal gland behaviors! Some people (or hormone states) the tears easily just keep falling right out, and for some anything will dry that shit right up and kill it like yr grandma walking in kills yr boner. Also for me if I'm upset enough that I'm crying I'm kinda dissociating in and out so even getting a camera wouldn't be like emotionally "close enough" to me to distract me or interrupt anything if that makes sense?

Thanks for the shout-out to TV watchers, Coop! I've had all of my computers connected to my TV for about 20 years. I'm not even sure I've ever watched a video/movie on a phone because it's just gross. That's why I don't bother much with TikTok -- vertical videos on a 65" 4K TV? No, thanks. You are just a little bigger than life-sized when I watch you on KZbin. Your energy borders on psychotic, and that's what I love about your channels. "Asteroid City" is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time, but you have to watch it twice, for sure. Cheers!

I have a golden retriever boyfriend and the best part of it is the privacy. Not out in public or being filmed for the reward, he just wants my own personal attention and it’s the sweetest. I mean, yeah I’ve shared that he’s a golden retriever, but ya’ll don’t get to be a witness. Also no baby talk

This is exactly it. My husband has this type of personality and the last thing he would want is his genuine affection for me plastered all over the internet for validation from strangers. He’s a sensitive, shy person who just wants to be with and around me, not to put on a show of wanting to be around me! I’m so glad you get to experience this kind of man too 🤍 and experience it for real, not the pretend TikTok version lol

@@Alicia-Rene oh my gosh yes! That’s exactly what it’s like. Just them being able to spend time with the person they love is enough. The "I'll punch you in the jaw" is so real tho. There's really women out here like that. I used to be one of them but then I realized that it will push a man away. We gotta heal from the trauma ladies. Because good men need to feel that reciprocation of affection and love rather than animosity and violence.

This kind of content really fucks with people’s heads, sometimes if I’m feeling sad and maybe I had I fight with my boyfriend I fall into it. It’s just a performance to grab attention and cause envy, but it’s envy for a fake thing so it doesn’t even make sense.

I'd be a little… Idk, insulted? Are you trying to tell me to express myself less? Am I being too loud? Too animated? Too hyper? I would definitely get self conscious if I was just talking like normal. If I'm nervous in a situation and talking too much, my boyfriend would probably do this to calm me down if he realises I'm anxious, that’s the only time I'd understand this. If my hand was just on the table and he held my hand, that’s completely different, but grabbing it from the air when you are talking and using your hands is weird!

My partner has done this, I'm just like okay okayyyy. Will also sometimes start kissing my hand with other people there!!! We're 35 and 40 it's super embarrassing but it's not like making out with it, idk if I'm overreacting bc I both have a middle eastern dad AND mostly lesbian so I grew up getting in trouble or overreacted to for the mildest PDA, and think everything is this crazy PDA. Like I got pulled out of a test and called to the vice principal's office in high school because a homophobic kid had told their parent they saw me sit on my gf's lap allegedly and the parent CALLED THE PRINCIPAL. We were SENIORS and other kids would straight be making out practically grinding in the commons and I supposedly sat on my gf's lap which I definitely never did bc I'm so shy about that shit. Anyway bc of this I get embarrassed about even like sitting too close to my own partner in public like if the couch is kinda small.

Imo people love romance, that's why romance genres of books, comics and movies are so popular. But the problem is as you said with these tiktoks it's extremely manufactured and there's no longer that mental barrier of "what I am watching or reading is fictional and crafted to tell a story". The intention could be there from the tiktokers, but it's blurring that line since majority of the time peope consume social media with the general idea that it's genuine. That can be very dangerous for people who are not very social media literate and give people bad perceptions on what a real relationship is :(
