Thank you for visiting this older title. It's one of my favorite games that deserves more love than it gets.

One of my favorite board games. To anyone getting into it now, buy the expansions while you can. The game is now "over", so no telling how much longer new copies will be available. I love all the expansions, even the oft criticized Masks of Nyarlathotep. Main difference between large and small box expansions is the Ancient Ones: big box comes with two, small box has one. Also big box gives you eight investigators instead of four.

You're right; variability is one of the key strengths of this wonderful game, particularly with all the expansions fed in. Arkham Horror 2e is fantastic as well, and a quite different gaming experience IMHO. Also a shout- out for Mansions of Madness 2e. FFG is, unfortunately, no longer supporting the first two (although there's a ton of content anyway) and there's speculation that there won't be any more expansions for Mansions. It's been a long, crazy ride with the Arkham Files universe, even if that proves to be the case.

Very glad to come across this review. EH is what got me into boardgames, so I think it's a great starting point for players looking for a thematic game with high variability and emergent storytelling. Also a great option for those of us getting into the hobby playing solo.

To echo everyone else...that was a fantastic review! I have been on the fence with purchasing this. I have a good deal on a collection with the base game + FL + SR + UtP. But I haven't pulled the trigger because of the size of the investment for a game I haven't tried yet! But I really like the theme, and seeing your enthusiasm is reassuring that I may like it myself. Thanks!!

Thank you so much. I hope you enjoy the game as much as I still do when you get it.

This has been a solo gateway game for me and I love it (played last night and lost disastrously). Thanks for doing this. I also picked up Cthulhu Death May Die (partly due to your review and partly because I can't seem to get enough of the Lovecraft theme) and I'm planning on teaching myself that next. Cheers!

Peter Fadness thanks You. I love Eldritch and think every gamer should own it. Death May Die is a whole heap of fun - enjoy 👍

Fantastic review! Was on the fence with this one but thanks to you, it is arriving today - with 2 small box expansions as well :-). Thanks!

Excellent - the small box expansions (especially Forsaken Lore) are a great place to start. I hope you enjoy👍

hey mark, how would you compare this game to arkham horror 3ed board game and arkham horror the card game. the game length is a bit concerning, but the card game seems pricey and have to collect many many cards for a full experience with different enemies. I really didn’t like spirit island as i am looking for a story and a varied goal or objective. thanks for the review

I didn’t like Arkham Horror 3rd and much prefer Eldritch. It has less narrative but I find the gameplay far better. AH LcG didn’t work for me but I don’t really like LCG’s.

@@NotBoredGaming ok thanks, that seems to be the consensus that EH has the better blend of player agency and narrative even though arkham horror 3ed came out later. Shelfsides review also kinda what started me on the path of looking for these types of games.

I knew of Eldritch Horror for years but somehow never bothered. Oddly, I love Lovecraft games but had a mental block about Eldritch. Anyway, this year I indulged in a spending splurge including Cthulhu Death May Die. I suspect the paucity of expansions for CDMD at UK retail was the motivation for bleed into Eldritch Horror. I purchased half the range second-hand, the other half brand-new. Jesus, what a fantastic game!!! May be my favourite Lovecraftian game of all. Thank you for this video retrospective :)
