Drew and Becky dating was messed up . Becky was Adam’s first love and she accepted him for who he was . Plus Drew and Becky didn’t show any signs of liking each other as more than friends and they had more of a brother/sister relationship .

I actually really shipped Clew. I had never cared about Drew as a character, but I thought these 2's chemistry was off the charts. Especially for 2 very different characters whom you never thought would even have a fling. But they made it work in the short time they got!

I thought they worked well too, and I found charm in their opposites attract situation. Still, I can't help but feel that I've seen their dynamic before. A pair who seem completely in sync with each other to the point that their friends suggest there's something going on, and though they deny it, there are feelings starting to rise. I can't recall where, but I swear Degrassi did this before.

Even still, I am a little troubled that this dynamic down to the T may have been used before, especially because it's unlike Degrassi to do that. They'll redo scenarios and archetypes, but always with a different spin.

I think that Drew is one of the worst characters of the entire show. No accountability, very little depth, blames eveyone, and is always saved by someone else. Him getting soo much screentime is why I hated S13 & S14.

I agree! I also noticed that every time Adam was interested in a girl, Drew would take interest in her too. The only girl that Drew didn't take interest in that Adam liked was Becky.... until Adam died and Drew got with Becky. I hated it so much.

Honestly, Drew and Clare having sex totally makes sense in my mind. Once you have sex the first time after having such expectations for yourself your sexual morals kinda change and you don’t care because the first time is the important one, so it made a lot of sense to me. Also the ‘years of lessons learned retracted in an episode’ that happens in real life too!

In my experience at least, sexual standards don't change THAT much. Even after you're over the "my first time hump", sex can still be an important and deeply intimate experience with every partner. Having sex once doesn't suddenly make you "easy" or willing to jump into bed with anyone who asks nicely. Especially Clare because she wasn't putting weight into her first time specifically. Sex to her isn't some grand step into adulthood, but instead something that she does with a guy she deeply loves. That's why she wanted to make sure Jake felt the same way and got upset when he didn't see them together in the end. We have no reason to assume how Clare views sex has changed, especially given how devastated she was when Drew dumped her after they had it. And people going back on lessons learned does happen in real life, but that's not a feature we've seen in Drew before or after.

NotAVampyre I disagree because I was actually very similar to Clare in high school. I wanted the end of my virginity to be special and took sex super seriously. But once I did it with my first boyfriend, I completely changed my mind for a while. I was ready to do it with pretty much anyone. Although, after a while I started to revert back to holding it at a higher regard. Anyways, I do think what Clare did was realistic. Plus, she had cancer. She was living more with a “you only live once” mindset. And she thought drew and her were going to be serious.

NotAVampyre I agree. It is. That's what made it interesting to me. Lots of things on Degrassi don't make sense to me. Emma giving Bjs in the park, Zoe and Grace dating, Zoe and Maya being friends. I've accepted that sometimes Degrassi does a complete 180, I guess.

The other things you listed ai actually find work better. Emma had a gun pointed at her and was still trying to sort through the trauma. That messes people up and often permanently changes them, though it wasn't so for Emma. Zoe and Grace trying to date made sense. Grace was the first girl Zoe ever liked that way, and Grace felt close to Zoe. So much so that she wanted to try the relationship to see where it went. And unfortunately, Grace just wasn't gay. Zoe and Maya I'm also willing to forgive as in real life there are many pairs that come to conflict but still act as friends or friendly during moments of peace.

It's trauma, but of a different kind, and if cancer was so traumatic to make sex on a first date okay in Clare's mind, we would've seen other out of character actions and changes. Note that when Emma started going with Jay, she was also struggling in school and distant from her friends.

I wonder if maybe Clare had sex with Drew because her views and values reguarding sex changed due to Eli cheating. The idea of having sex only with someone she loved probably felt wrong or flawed when she found out that the person that she loved and waited to have sex with was willing to share that with someone else while they were still together. Maybe she wanted a taste of what other people are into such as having sex for fun rather than deep connection and drew was there. It was out of character though and confused me at the time as well.

I know the show seems to have forgotten Drew dated Alli. They didn’t develop that relationship the way they did Drew/Bianca and Drew/Katie but still I think it could’ve been referenced between Clare and Alli.

Drew and Alli didn't get developed because they were inherently toxic and not built to last. There really wasn't hope for them together.

I think by that point Ali matured enough to recognize her pining for Drew was more of putting her self worth on materialistic things (popularity, boys) and that they weren't together because they had a connection or anything. They were together because they filled a particular want for the other. For Ali, Drew was her hot football superstar bf. For Drew, Ali was.....a girl who he had fun with. There wasn't really much to them unlile future relationships.

I actually wasn't mad when they got together. Their friendship was more for me though. The fact they knew alot of things about her and her the same for him. I think it was Drew or maybe it was Clare that knew what the other was gonna order before they ordered it. The chemistry was there, but I liked them more as bestfriends. I wasn't really an Eclare fan anyways. And also Clare having sex with Drew was out of her character, but you have to remember that as teenager we're still building our character. And even if we've already built anyone can act outside of one's character.

Even as a teenager you still have boundaries and things you don't think are right for you. True exploration happens most at that age, but it's not like teens are blank slates where anything goes, especially Clare Edwards who is intensely driven to assert her ideas of right and wrong.

The thing that bothers me isn't the age difference, but more so how Drew clearly wasn't being respectful to Zoe, treated sex like it was no big deal, and refused to listen to the part of himself that wanted nothing actually meaningful with Zoe. He wanted the perks of having her as a girlfriend while knowing very little about her and also not seeing her as an actual girlfriend. He treated Zoe as just a means to very selfish ends. One of my favorite Audra moments was her telling off Drew for having a serious relationship with Zoe while not being actually serious about her.

I guess I’m weird, because I actually really liked the Claire x Drew storyline, for some reason that arc gave me butterflies and it was super unexpected to me, yet I liked it…..Also Eli called Claire a whore which is extremely out of character for him and made me really not like him after that.

I think the sex too fast is a little bit of a stretch as a mark against them. It's not like people who easily have sex can never have deep and meaningful sex, so why couldn't the opposite be true? Every relationship is different as well. Just because in general someone tends to not have sex until they are sure there is a mutual love doesn't mean they can never 'slip up'. But more than that our reactions to different people can cause us to do different things especially when we're in a weird place in our lives. Age is a big factor too.

Another factor is the cancer and the "life is too short" thing. Maybe Clare is a bit more impulsive because of the cancer and how she realizes how fragile life is. Though degrassi didnt EXPLORE THAT so we all hate clew

I think the thing that bothers me so much about Crew, is that they never really fully explored or developed the relationship. I actually love the characters together, because I do think that they are kind of interesting as a pair. Claire becomes a different person and I kinda get that she is trying to seize every moment, but even with that, here just randomly jumping into bed with drew is a little...well...out of character. I just wish they would've allowed them to flourish a bit more naturally, instead of rushing into the craziness that season 13 gave us. I just think it was badly written and rushed in a way that throws everything off.
