As someone who found out that my ex was writing f3tish fics of me 5 years after we broke up AND was roleplaying as me on an adult site, I can confirm that it's the creepiest thing. Even if it's not sexual, treating people like characters -- like you have any grasp of who they truly are -- is honestly so dehumanizing imo. They aren't your puppets to put on plays with. And for anyone who says "but that's different! You knew him and it was a breach of trust!", I assure you that having swarms of strangers do that would be infinitely more terrifying.

Honestly? It makes for a wild story, so I've managed to find some fun with it. Lemonade from lemons and all that. Also, it was the "blueberrification" fetish, which is so damn silly and unrealistic that it makes things a bit less scary by the sheer ridiculousness of it. Anyways, this is my PSA to never trust a man who refers to all his exes by code names. Red flag number one, tbh.

The thing with gay ships is that it can actually hurt creators coming out as queer. In the fifth harmony ship, it was uncomfortable for one of the girls to come out as bisexual because of how people shipped her with her band mates, especially because she was portrayed as a perpetrator, and was scared of coming out and being viewed as dangerous as a queer women. If I was being shipped so hard with others, then I would be scared of backlash because of coming out as aromantic or asexual. I would be scared it would make dans turn on me for "ruining" their ship, or that fans would think it was "just a ploy to get us to think they're not dating". You're literally hurting lgbt people!

Oh yeah, like I'm ace but I'll bet most people don't know, they probably think I'm straight but shy or something? (I've also had women check me out a few times, so apparently "tomboy nerd" has some crossover with some lesbian/bi girl styles.) I don't have a public face presence on the internet, but oh my GODDESS it would weird me out to see graphic fanfic about myself and....anybody. Just...oof. I don't even make my self SIM get with people. (At least not on purpose; if the AI has her flirt with someone I might let it happen out of morbid curiosity just to see who she picks. Apparently one time in Sims 4 when I left story progression on, she ended up with one of the head wizards. Yay?) There are SO many fictional characters with good actually potential in the canon (or completely made up out of thin air) ships out there to write and speculate and draw fanart about, people. Just stick with them. You WON'T run out, I promise.

I find it particularly egregious when someone comes out as queer and the fans make it about their ships instead of showing support like normal people. Like, a guy came out as gay after years on youtube, and instead of congratulating him on coming out, a very loud section of the fans made it about how it confirmed their ship with another creator (:

I don't mind shipping if it's between two characters of equal standing, but not when one partner is a minor and the other is a grown adult. I couldn't believe that PLL had us shipping Ezra and Aria, when he was her teacher when they first met. And they even got MARRIED by the end!

i think shipping anything is fine, but in shows and stories that are meant for teenagers and children (like PLL) there is a responsibility to accurately show healthy and unhealthy relationships, because people in those ages groups still need to be taught those things. if something is for adults (like GoT), it’s different because the author shouldn’t have to handhold an adult about right and wrong.

There are so many things wrong with shipping real people, but one point that hasn’t been brought up yet (that I’ve seen) is how it can affect partners/family of people in the ship. I remember Larries saying that Louis son is not his real son because “Louis is gay and loves Harry, this is just his manager trying to cover it up.” And I find it so disgusting how people think this way. Imagine Louis son growing up and seeing all over the internet that he isn’t really Louis child. This could really affect him and his well-being. And on another hand, in kpop, idols aren’t allowed to date/ aren’t allowed to publicize their relationships, which causes many problems. Imagine taehyung or junkook (just using them as an example) got a partner and somehow this got out into the public. The partner would probably be harassed so much by fans not only because “he’s supposed to belong to army not you.” (As if the idol an object that BELONGS to someone) or “Taehyung and Junkook are in love with each other, stop trying to come between them.” The partner will face so much hate and death threats that they might have to take extreme action (breaking up, leaving the public eye, etc) This will effect this REAL LIFE RELATIONSHIP because delusional fans could not respect boundaries.

Well update, taehyung was revealed to be dating Jennie from blackpink. The response isn't AS BAD as u described (mainly cuz it was kinda expected), but there was still a space made by taekook shippers, saying that the whole relationship is fake and is a contract between HYBE and Yg for clout as they are both the most popular members of the most popular female and male kpop groups, in order to make headlines and promote their upcoming songs and to hide taekook's real relationship... I haven't seen the "belong to army" people but the shippers had a bigger response to it. They are starting to move exactly like larries. And taekook shippers have collaborated with the jenlisas (it's taekook blackpink version basically, similar ship with similar delusional shippers), and both made up another theory that they are "cosplayers" cosplaying as Jennie and tae and cosplaying their managers as well... (Since people got to know it cuz Jennie, taehyung were having a date in paris, holding hands next to the seine river, with both of their managers behind them, and a paparazzi caught them and took a video)

Some life partners and kids of male idols got hate and deathreates from foreign gay sh*tters.If you take bts,even korean armys always tell those foreign delusional females to stop shipping bts members romantically each other,but then those shipper military girls attack those korean armys and foreign armys.They do this to statisfy their jealousy insecure mind because they can't see their maknae line oppas with women and got brainwashed by the fanservices.But when people say bts are gays,those military girls can't handle their anger.At last,their real life partners and kids get hate and deathreates like what happened to other idols and 1d members,especially the bts maknae line.

Kpoppies aren’t gonna be very happy with this I fear- But yes I agree with everything you said. Shipping real people is never okay to me because that's 1. Creepy af 2. Literally projection for the most part And sure, people love coming up with the "but what if they're really dating each other" logic but never stop to think how that makes it even worse. Like, if two people are dating and keeping it under wraps then there's a reason behind that (whatever it is), and you microanalyzing everything is invasive to the max. Another reason why same sex shipping feels weird to me is that it takes away from the actual person's experience. Like imagine if you were a closeted queer human and your fans reduced you to shipping material, so when you decided to come out it would be just "called it" "I knew they were gay" "[insert ship name] is real I told you people" instead of YOUR experience as a queer person. Not to mention the existing fetishizing tendencies among fandoms.

what really gets me, especially when it comes to kpop idols, is the analysis videos. the fact that someone really sits there to zoom in, overanalyze, and “expose” the most trivial human behaviors and think that they’re some genius because they can see the “hidden romance” between two idols… go touch some grass fr🙏🏾 and you cant forget about the kicker- if those two idols (and it’s usually two male idols) are really in some “secret relationship” then are you not putting those two idol’s lives and careers at risk since same sex relations are still widely seen as socially unacceptable in korea?? very odd behavior to put your “faves” through. edit: previously said same sex relations in sk are illegal- gay marriage is illegal and lgbtq+ have no legal protection from discrimination, so you could still be in a same sex relationship but as you can see, the odds are very much not in their favor.

I know it's gonna be a funny vid but here's my take on why shipping is so apparent. People see public and fictional figures as puppets to their imagination and the media plays on that. They general public will go feral when two cast members graze fingers. But will condemn them when they come out as a couple. (Edit) Everyone has a fantasy for a relationship for themselves and for other's (in this case celebrities) They use celebrities to live out their "dream relationship". They create a persona in the form of a ship. So what happens when you destroy their fantasy . . . Denial! "-X celebrity- would never date someone like that." "But their not gay" it's false information" "Your a celebrity, you should focus in your craft". The best way to make money in entertainment is to have people either ship themselves with the celebrity or ship another celebrity with that celebrity. The media uses that to feed those "10 moments _______ and __________ acted sus" or "-ship name- is REAL *evidence*" So in summary: general public loves fantasizing about a ship but will criticize when it becomes real. That's why the "fan service" was coined: to tease the GP

That's a really interesting way of thinking about it. I think you're right. This is a feeling I've been having for a while, but never really knew how to articulate properly. I've always liked the romance/drama genre, so whenever the two characters I shipped together so much got together, I was really happy. That and they weren't real people, so it didn't feel morally wrong that I shipped them so much. But I've noticed lately that whenever my two favorite characters get together, it doesn't make me as happy as I thought it would/used to. It's like I had this version of them in my head that I liked, but when the actual creator of the characters pairs them together, I don't like it as much, because the creator has their own view of their characters, while I have a different one. It's a pretty difficult feeling that's hard to explain, but that's probably why most of the fictional couples I know never get together. It's always teased or hinted at, but never confirmed. That way, everyone stays happy, and people can continue to have their own little headcannons/versions of a ship they like. Obviously the case isn't the same for fictional characters and real people, but there is a bit of overlap there.

i’ve been in fandom and shipping for a long time and this is an interesting topic. i’ve always steered away from rpf/rps (real person fiction, real person shipping is how it used to be called back 10 or so years ago) because i think it’s a grey area. especially since it seems like usually younger teens that are drawn to that who often have trouble distinguishing fiction and reality and parasocial relationships. even to compare to non-celebrities, there’s nothing inherently wrong with fantasizing about strangers, but it’s about boundaries and recognizing what is FANTASY and nothing more, an area where i think teens are not really fully developed. that leads to some negative things like invasive behavior that ends up hurting those celebrities. i don’t really know how to fix this issue, it seems like as long as fandom continues this type of toxic culture will probably crop up from time to time.
@BrookeAndCoStudios
@BrookeAndCoStudios 2 жыл бұрын
I think that's honestly probably the root of most fandom problems. Kid/teen fans doing things that they'd naturally do because their brains aren't developed, then messed up adults take that as "permission" to make their even weirder things public. Then the minors take THAT as permission or are gr00med/pressured into thinking it's good, and so the cycle continues. Minors may do very wrong things, but they're usually only doing it because someone older or with more influence taught them it's ok. They're where the fault lies
@talix5812
@talix5812 2 жыл бұрын
@@BrookeAndCoStudios i don’t think we can really go so far to say adult fans as a whole are responsible for teens getting into inappropriate content or spaces. really, it should be up to the child’s guardians and the website/space organizer to make sure the child is not getting access to things they shouldn’t be. that said, i think adults in fandom should still be conscientious about the space they are in. i mean, we can’t exactly monitor everyone who looks at our twitters but still, pay attention to who you’re interacting with and who is interacting with you. when it comes to rpf, i think if you’re into that as an adult, imo you should keep your account private/use private servers. it would help keep it away from children who might misinterpret it as real, and help prevent the celebrities from seeing it too, which is probably the best option. so, that’s where rpf is a grey area, because i think there’s a way to engage with it sensibly, but it’s difficult to keep it isolated like that.

@@talix5812 oh absolutely it's not adults in fandom as a whole! I'm an adult in fandom myself. But unfortunately I've come across many an adult creep who doesn't have safety in mind. They're definitely a minority, but they're dangerous influences. And you're right again, it should definitely be primarily the minor's guardian's responsibility, but one of those natural errors of youth is definitely rebellion lol, so us being aware of our interactions is important like you said. Last year in a small fandom gc we found out a girl was lying about her age and instead of 17, she was barely 14. Thankfully we were all safe people to talk to and went into super-protection mode (one of twitter's most stupid features is randomly putting your likes directly on the timeline I SWEAR), but geez thank goodness all us adults in the chat are safe.
@jaymalodedra2509
@jaymalodedra2509 2 жыл бұрын
My thoughts exactly, while minors obviously aren't exempt, its mostly the adult shippers who make it weirder. A lot of people, especially crazy hormonal teens have *fantasies*, and a lot of the time with adults. If it is kept as just a fantasy and known to be separate from reality, it's fine, they just have an attraction towards them but should know that if that scenario somehow ended up being true, they wouldn't act on it and it would be grooming on the adults part. Obviously all teens aren't developed enough to know this but most adults are (I say most because you can't expect someone who's just turned 18 to be like a full blown adult) Adults making these ships and thinking about minors is weird unless again it's someone maybe 18 or 19.

Especially because if these idols actually came out as gay or were actually in relationships, then these fans wouldn’t like them anymore. It’s straight fetishization, moreso in the sense that most of these are written by straight people romanticizing stuff that they wouldn’t like if it was reality. I think they just really need to put themselves in the shoes of the people they’re shipping. Like, if someone wrote an extremely erotic novel about you and your best friend who you have no romantic feelings for, how would you feel?? Nobody would like that. But it’s okay because it’s not about them. It’s just so toxic and creates a horrible bias about fans, and makes it harder for idols to exist. Like, oh yeah Taehyung and Jungkook would be so hot together! But if they were actually together… if one was actually gay… nah, that’s weird.

In the eyes of a lot of people, celebrities are just objects. They get content out of them, they get to hear about other people’s lives but they can control them. Their money is the celebrities income, and so they believe they are superior, in a sense. Just really jacked up. Like people pushing being gay on Shawn Mendes. I think he would know if he liked men?? @Linda Les they seemed to be good friends, yes. Their behind the scenes always showed them laughing and playing around. But the internet ships what it wants to, and it got too out of hand. After the ao3 incident wang yibo and xiao Zhan’s fandoms didn’t like each other (the chinese side anyway). Even then, after the filming and promotion of The Untamed, they wouldn’t be allowed to be seen in the public simply because The Untamed is technically a BL. The two have not worked together since. They won’t even go to the same dinner on the anniversary of The Untamed. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re still friends offscreen and even if they’re not, it isn’t our place to pry. I think they just don’t interact publicly to avoid scandals

You're not being judgy, you're trying to tell it like it is and I appreciate that. Shipping fictional characters can be fun and inspire some really cool and creative art but I've always drawn the line at real people because of the consent issue. Shipping real people (I don't care what their profession is) means putting them in a relationship without their consent. This is awful regardless of the level of physical intimacy explored in any fantasy but graphic, explicit images and stories take this to a whole other level of ick. I would not want someone doing that to me. I won't do it to anyone else.

I admit, I came from that part of the kpop fandom once upon a time. It came from a place of loneliness. The amount of times most of the fans project what they want in their life just gets applied to the idols. Plus- the fact the industry encourages "owning" the idols doesn't help the mindset. Took me a while to get out, like touching grass type- these fans need to see the world and see for themselves what being human is like. That's the best way to get out of it honestly.

Someone once said to me that they don't really ship the real people themselves, but their public personas. And while I think it makes some sense, I still find it very invasive, specially when it gets super sexual and the person have no means of consenting of even knowing what people are doing with their image. (Because honestly, I don't think "They will never see it" is a good defense. I actually find it worse.) If the people involved have consented and are okay with such content being made of them, I think that's okay. My favorite brand of youtubers is when they read fanfiction about them, and some (I'm thinking mostly of VTubers on this one, but I've seen some other creators doing) will even commission NSFW art of themselves. When they don't, and people still do it, and get invasive, and make all these projections on these people they don't even know... I don't know, man... Still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I find vtuber NSFW stuff to actually be some of the more respectful of the creator's wishes. Like using specific tags the streamer has asked to be used, or if it's art the streamer might not want to see, bury it under layers of anti-ego search security so they don't see it

IRL shipping is not ok. It’s a violation of privacy at the least and borderline sexual harassment at the far end. Ik celebs and idols are already struggling with fame and hypersexualization, so shipping them together especially with group mates or friends is not helpful. You are not this person and you don’t know them well, so how do you know what they feel? I think most ships in stories and movies and etc. are fine when both people are consenting adults with a good power dynamic. Tbh I find it offsetting when one character has a lot of control over the other. Shipping is really fun, and it’s great when you devote a lot of time to a healthy ship, but shipping real life people who eat, breathe, think, and sleep is not ok.
@GabesEdtiz

Shipping fictional characters is fine, but shipping the real life individuals - regardless if they’re in a relationship or not - is kind of weird. It especially becomes a problem when the actors/actresses begin to get harassed by “fans” and receive threats via social media, email, or address. Keep in mind it’s all because the fanbase apparently sees something between the two people being shipped, when in reality they could just be really good friends off-screen or have good on-screen chemistry. You can like characters in a show together, but that’s all they are: characters. They’re not representative of the people portraying them who are simply doing their jobs. To the individuals who claim to be “fans” and have no regard for the personal lives of celebrities, I hope you get the help you need.

As a former Larry shipper (I fuckin know I’m so sorry) I gotta say that yeah, real person shipping is toxic for so many reasons that I don’t really feel like fully going into in this comment but to be short, the capacity (especially when the ship is queer) to fetishise and promote toxic narratives in shipping is very disgusting. It’s really weird bc when ur in the fandom u pretty much manipulate each other into thinking what you’re doing is okay by constantly saying “as long as we’re respectful!” or talk about the really bad toxic shippers and so u somehow remove urself from the creepy category. But the thing is there’s no way to ship real people without crossing a line/being creepy I think. So why try?

As a Directioner, the stuff I really hate with Larry shippers are: 1. Pretending to know the whole truth and dismissing their two idols. Both Harry and Louis said in multiple interviews that they're uncomfortable with Larry shippers. (Prime example is Larry shippers mocking Louis word "obviously") 2. Harassing the partners and family members of both H and L. The worst part is sending death threats to the gfs or exes. Calling them names or referring to them as "beards" are also disrespectful. Even if it's just for PR purposes, those girls are still real human beings.

@@HarjitKaur-xn5cw I was a larry shipper too like 3 years ago and I'm not anymore so I'll answer this. For me the realisation kinda came with maturing. Like most of those moments in those analization videos were not sexual or romantic at all. back then I didn't see it like that bc I didn't have much knowledge of those things but looking back at it, it's pretty obvious that they were just friends. And like its not like friends don't flirt sometimes out of sheer fun, but obviously when you but those moments in a compilation, make them slowmo and add seductive music in the background then your brain is gonna get confused. So for me as I got older, more mature and more rational, I realized that the entire thing is so stupid and did more damage to harrys and louis friendship than good. Like I genuinely find it so sad that they can't even support each other publicly bc some 12 year old larry shippers will see that as proof. I do admit that even now, I still find a couple of lyrics somewhat misleading and like I get why people would think they're dating or were dating at some point but for me I realized that it's none of my business. Like those are two real humans, who's lifes have been affected by this whether its true or not and that is beyond not okay. So I'm just at a point now where I don't care if they actually maybe did date at some point or not, as long as they're happy because like I said, it's none of my business.

As a person who has written a lot of fanfiction, I've always found it odd when people write fanfics about actual people. For example, I have stumbled upon fics shipping Rhett and Link from Good Mythical Morning together. In case you haven't heard of it, it's a sort of talk/variety show where they try different foods, challenges, and stuff. Rhett and Link are good friends who are both married with kids, and they both mention their wives and kids on occasion. So, the idea that people would ship them, and would see them as characters when they don't put on as thick of a persona as some KZbinrs, baffles me. If I was in their position, I think I'd feel weird about it. I think Emily hit it on the nose. Viewers stop seeing the actors or entertainers as real people and blur that line. Which could make it much more awkward for the actual people. It's one thing seeing a character you play getting shipped, but seeing your own name and sometimes even details of your life used in a fanfiction? Discomfort.

It's bad in all contexts, it really doesn't matter how you look at, shipping real life people will always be wrong. Also, shipppers don't even care if they're possibly outing a real possible relationship. Just goes to prove that they'll be willingly delusional regardless. Because if they believe so much that two people are in a secret partnership, would knowing that so many crazy fans ship them make the situation any less bad?! Obviously not, and if they are genuinely just coworkers (I'm inclined to believe that's the case 99% of the time) they don't even care how uncomfortable they're actively making these people's lives.....

I had found this comment on a video shipping idols(of the same sex) KZbin shorts and it said "You ever think that the reason why a majority of people "ship" others is because love and affection isn't as universally common as hatred and tension? And so they latch onto whatever love they find, just to keep themselves happy? Sure, you shouldn't infringe what you believe onto others, but who is it really hurting when there's boundaries? Just a thought." And like Emily says, clearly if boundaries being crossed and being excessive to the point of making extremely suggestive or inappropriate content is clearly not okay, but at the same time, within boundaries, it feels reasonable enough
@RyubearSaysGao

To the shipping of fictional characters, this applies. But frankly, if you talk of adhering to boundaries and 'who it is really hurting', shipping real people crosses a line by definition. Celebrities are public figures, but they are not characters to be inserted, whenever and wherever. Frankly, I find these indulgent fans, to be disrespectful and selfish. This demographic often becomes so deluded by shipping edits, fanfiction and art, it pollutes their view on said celebrity. If the artist/actor/content creator is world-famous, thousands upon thousands see those photoshopped images, stories and art. More often than one might think, featured celebrities and people in their life, can, will and *have* seen glimpses of shipping culture. Friendships between bandmates, other creators and how the world looks at a celebrity, all are affected. Shippers have not exactly been secretive, nor subtle about matters. If you think a fandom of millions, obsessing over and spreading certain fantasies, does not hurt anyone. You are wrong.

@@RyubearSaysGao you know what honestly, I had never really thought about the implications of shipping on a larger scale, and you make a lot of sense. I pretty much first came across "shipping" when I got into K-pop and if you know anything abt the industry, it is extremely homophobic, heck even straight relationships get condemned. It's a whole issue in it self. But a lot of fandoms, both of girl and boy groups, often have ships, a lot of the times between members who have shown to be LGBTQ+ /ally (e.g. moonsun, minsung, woosan etc). The members themselves are aware of the ships, and have mentioned they don't mind. In these instances, most of fandoms usually only sees cute fan edits and stuff, that's it, like casual stuff. That's where I kind of see the boundary I guess. Photoshopped images, or polluting the idol image, hardly happens in this particular niche. But on a larger scale, in most cases, unfortunately shipping and it's boundaries can be very gray, and like you said ppl often times crosses boundaries and become obsessive, like these people are some characters in their mind. I understand where you come from, in the large scale of things it does seem pretty scary, I guess I only had exposure to a particular kind of shipping, that felt harmless to me at the time.

Shipping can ruin friendships especially in KPOP! It already happened once in BTS. Way back when they first debuted, during a show V& J-Hope supposedly kissed on camera during a game (it was blurred out) and fans went Psycho, J-Hope and V were really distant/ awkward for a long time in interviews after the fandom blew it up.

I have the perfect story abt fanfics abt two real people. Someone in China wrote a graphic fanfic abt Wang YiBo and Xiao Zhan, two male chinese actors who worked together on a popular drama The Untamed. The show is a bromance but the book its based on (Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation/Mo Dao Zu Shi) is a Danmei, in which the two male protagonists get married and also have an explicit sexual relationship. Anyways, this fanfic snowballed into a bigger issue, which happened around the time ao3 (the platform it was posted on) was banned in China. So yeah, fanfics can affect not only the real people and can even have much bigger consequences. Its not the confirmed reason for ao3 being banned btw, but it maybe contributed

this issue is one of the main problems i have with the dream smp fandom. it's even more difficult to draw the line with shipping because people will say they only ship the smp characters, not the people irl. there are also people who ship the people irl and i know if i was in the position i would feel like i have to over analyze my every conversation and action with a person so people dont think something is there that isnt

I’m all for fictional shipping that isn’t problematic or promotes problematic behavior. It can be cute to have two unwilling characters fall in love or have funny crush moments that most people who love eachother do before they admit it. To me it’s like having a “What if scenario” with two characters that probably don’t even know eachother in the actual story, but you like to imagine what it would be like if they did or if they fel in love or whatever. Though personally, I’m not really a “canon x OC” person, but it’s not harmful if it’s consenting adults in this case, and it can be cute to see people giving characters a new story or romance (I’m not a smut fan though… I just like simple romance) However, none of it is real and the characters can’t “react” to the shipping because they aren’t real in the first place no matter what any edgy fan says about your pairing being “cringe” because it’s “not canon”. I agree that real life shipping is just definitely a dodgy area, but on the other hand, it’s always a riot seeing KZbinrs reacting to fanfictions written about them, usually because it’s either satire or not too graphic. It would definitely still be uncomfortable for the person it’s written about but at the end of the day, there’s not really much you can do about it. Though I will say bringing it to the celebritiy’s attention forcefully as if it’s “real” is just not on and should definitely be stopped.

The Harry and Louis thing really makes me mad because even if they did have any feelings for each other, why in the hell are people so obsessed with it? Just like you shouldn’t judge someone for who they love, you also shouldn’t over speculate on anyones love life, especially those of celebrities because it’s the opposite side of the same coin. Like just live your own life who cares what these people are doing in their free time, that’s their business not yours.

I’ve been waiting for someone to make a video on this issue, and I’m glad it happened. Thank you so much Emily. Also those kinds of people shipping two women/men together really are way too down bad and fetishizing irl homosexual relationships, wanting their irl yaoi/yuri fantasy to come true. Speaking as a bi trans man that’s in the yaoi community.

My thoughts exactly! I think shipping is fine when it concerns fictional characters but when real people are involved it's a different story. I remember when Louis' son was born and people were literally hating on a day-old infant and calling the whole thing a scam because Louis had him with someone else than Harry. Unfortunately people often take it way too far and it can actually be pretty harmful.

Gay ships in fandoms typically bug me because they always crossover with something gross, like fetishization and making gay relationships look “taboo”. It’s so normalized these days even though it can actively harm people in the process. This has nothing to do with the video I just wanted to bring it up

If I really like a fictional ship in some live action media, I try not to learn too much about or obsess over the actors who play them. For me I think it’s better to just accept the fact that the people were just doing their jobs, I can enjoy the product and we can both go on our way. It’s like if you went to a restaurant and got some nice soup. You probably wouldn’t try to learn more about the chef’s life or ask them what soup they make for their family and request them to give you that soup. You’d just accept the soup you are given and enjoy the soup for what it is. I think it’s good to remember that just by watching someone act, you know them about as well as you would know that chef just by eating their soup. Actors aren’t their characters.

there was this incident, like the 2-2-7 incident in china. basically this fan shipping two male actors wrote this extremely graphic fanfiction including smut where one of the male actors is a minor in high school. it got so insane that the *entire ao3 website got taken down in china, the government got involved, and both the actors' careers got demolished like brand deals were canceled, lawsuits were filed etc*

The thing is, real person shipping of celebrities doesn't stop at celebrities. It was so prevalent at my highschool that people would attempt to force people to date each other and would watch them from a distance and ''fangirl''. It happened to me :/// it's super uncomfortable and comes from an entirely selfish place, their need for a love story comes before your comfort
