The first review I've read of "Ram" was in 1993, and it was glowing. "Do me a favour, sleep with this album, listen to it, learn it inside and out..."etc. The guy was positively raving, saying it was the best McCartney album hands down. This was in the french press, for the 93 reissue campaign. I actually picked up an older copy (and a very cheap one) right away. I don't know what British or US magazines wrote about it in 1993 (like Q), but I would say that, maybe, this is when the reappraisal of "Ram" started?

Regarding Ram's reappraisal, around the time Paul's 1989 tour kicked off in Drammen, Norway (where I live), there was a one-hour[ish] McCartney-in-review on the radio - including a short interview with Eirik Wangberg - where the host discussed the negative reactions to Ram back in 1971, but how it's now(1989) regarded as one of Paul's best albums. They played three songs from Ram as well: Dear Boy, Heart of the Country and The Back Seat of My Car, all of which I liked. When my brother brought along the CD a year or two later I remember feeling slightly underwhelmed by it. By the time I bought the 1993 reissues, not only had it become MY favourite post-Beatles album, but one of Norway's foremost musical journalists at the time[Yan Friis] put it alongside Band on the Run as his greatest 'solo' work when he did a quite extensive review of Paul's career. He trashed everything from the 80s, though.

I push back on the idea that this lawsuit rescued the Beatles finances. Quite the contrary. I think it hurt them financially. By doing this, the Beatles money was locked up from 1971-1974 in receivership. This is an enormous blow to their ability to grow their money. They could invest nothing. Not real estate, nor investments such as stocks, nor new businesses. All of this at a time when they were earning more than in any point in their collective or solo careers. That probably cost them about 10 million in interest lost just in that 4 year period. That ten million would have been worth 20 million by 1980 (at 7% interest). Double each number every 10 years and their estates would have added 320 million dollars by 2020- just from that lost interest. The number would be much higher when you add in the amounts coming from record sales during that time period. That is an enormous chunk of change.

Paul said/blamed John for the break up on Howard Stern radio show very 'sheepishly' As with all Beatles stories NOTHING was straight forward!
