Just when you think you have seen everything, you get thin, watery bacon wrapped around soggy sprouts and charged £20 a kilo. You are right, you could not make it up! I love the facial expressions at the beginning of the video, I knew this was going to be funny - what, you mean they are serious?! 🤣Thanks for cheering up a dull, grey Friday, just what I needed. 😊

@RedHeadNINTY9T9 Absolutely agree. The precooking ruins bacon. I make my own pigs in blankets too, but I had never thught of "sprouts in blankets" until today. I may have a go at making some, but no precooked bacon.

my favourite way to have sprouts is to make a creamy batter (made with gram flour), seasoned with salt, black pepper and garam masala (or your fave spices of choice)..., quick dip in the batter then deep fried like pakora until golden brown, crunchy, spicy, sweet balls of fire 🔥🤤. A useful review explaining why it doesn't work. Just this morning I was looking at the Iceland site wondering if I should order anything or not (I didn't) and I noticed these were on offer. Something like this anyone could make and cook themselves in less time and with far more success....plus it would be a lot, lot cheaper.

Sprout and bacon soup is delicious. Fry your sprouts cut in half in a little oil until well browned, then add your bacon lardons and a finely chopped onion and fry until well done. And then add some chicken or Turkey Lurkey stock cook for a further 20 minutes then blend and add a little bit of single cream and serve and garnish with some deep fried crispy sprout peelings delicious.

Good info from BBC food: The one rule that holds true for cooking sprouts on the hob is that you should try to avoid cooking them for more than 5 minutes or the sulphurous compounds (isothiocyanates) within them will start to break down - and they will smell. The longer you cook them, the stronger the smell will get. Halve, quarter or shred sprouts to minimise the cooking time. If the sprouts are larger than average and you want them to remain whole, you can of course cook them for longer. They will probably need 7-8 minutes to cook through. Don’t cut a cross in the base of your sprouts. It won’t make them cook any more quickly and makes prepping them take longer. It may also cause them to become more soggy as the water infiltrates the centre of the sprout. You can cook your sprouts ahead and reheat them in the microwave if you are short on hob space. Or you can cook halved or quartered sprouts ahead and warm them gently with some butter in a pan. Ingredients that can be added to cooked sprouts include flaked or chopped almonds, chopped hazel nuts and of course chestnuts. Brown the nuts in a little butter before adding the freshly cooked sprouts. Give your sprouts a spiced edge with garam masala or ras el hanout, or add some chopped chilli and garlic, again cook the spices or flavourings for a few seconds in butter or oil before adding the hot sprouts. Toss them together. You'll find plenty more flavour ideas in our main collection of brussels sprouts recipes. There are plenty of other ways to cook brussels sprouts other than boiling. See our list of cooking methods below, including roasting, steaming, pan-frying and plenty more.

I think this nicely demonstrates why I so seldom shop in iceland. To be fair to them, boring things like pizzas and frozen mini-roasts are usually fairly ok, but then there isn't much to muck up with those... Sadly other stuff seems to alternate between being silly high prices, very underwhelming, or simply vile, so really these days Iceland shopping has become a rather hit and miss affair. Anyway, that aside, the comedy value of the slightly mishap prone videos of this week has been priceless so thanks for another enjoyable watch Gareth.

Well despite the possible panic buy to get these in for Christmas I may give them a miss. I am in a bit of a confusion as I am not a fan of sprouts but like bacon. They could do cauliflower wrapped in bacon. Or peas wrapped in bacon. Or bacon wrapped in a sandwich. Sometimes I feel these food companies have too much time on their hands to invent any Christmas themed food. Christmas cake wrapped in bacon? Despite the obvious discomfort I loved the video and laughed at the great facial expressions. Thanks for your sacrifice.

Any form of cooked Brussels sprouts KILL my stomach with cramps, pains the lot....plus I hate the taste cooked. However, by accident a few years ago I discovered they are SO much nicer raw in a kind of salad plus no stomach issues whatsoever eating them raw. I shred them quite finely in a food processor with 1-2 🥕, sometimes I'll add in finely chopped spring onions. I them top them with pomegranate seeds and serve with a vinaigrette dressing or tescos balsamic glaze is lovely or even flavour the vinaigrette with orange 🍊 juice. It gives lovely christmassy flavours and has oriced a big hit with my family who can't or won't eat cooked bessels sprouts. Leaving them raw also maintains the nutrients (look at the colour of the cooking water u discard when boiling them) and also u dont get that awful 'rotten egg' stench from cooking them. We always used to say in our house Xmas day " right who's the filthy bugger who's been farting away!!?". 😂😂 .
