How refreshing to find a youtuber who doesn’t offer up an endless series of fashion hauls and encourages us to ‘shop’ in our own wardrobes. Love your advice to ‘re-inspire’ our wardrobes by using Google street-style etc. and investing time rather than money. Kiwi ingenuity and common sense approach wins again, with dollops of style and class. Go girl, fab job!❤😀

My tricks: I have hung up my main clothes (like dresses, blazers, blouses, ‘statement’ tops) -that should inspire me- in color order. That way I can see better what I have and how I may be able to mix them. Simple basics like t-shirts, underwear, tights, some sweaters and other ‘basics’ are stucked away in drawers. Clothes of the wrong season I also have removed. Every weekend I create a number of outfits for the upcoming working week which I hang on a coat rack that fits 5-10 outfits. For all days or at least a few and sometimes I add/remove outfits during the week. I try to ensure I create enough variation, e.g. in terms of colors, feminine or masculine /strict style or more casual looks. I just want to ensure I create some options so I can pick an outfit quickly in the morning and that I am more aware of the clothes that I own and not only wear the same combos all the time. I also try to put accessories like tights, scarves or necklaces with the outfits. It really saves me a lot of time and headache in the mornings and it has resulted in much nicer outfits....

Thanks so much for sharing your tricks! When I worked in an office I also created outfits on the weekend to wear the following week - it made getting dressed each morning SO much easier. :)

Great tips! I did a major "clear out" of my wardrobe over the course of about 2 months. I started with tops, worked my way over to slacks, then jeans. I'm working on shoes now. Anything in my closet that was uncomfortable, ill fitting or just made me sad to look at it HAD to go! Most were donated. A few things were past their prime so they went into the trash. The shoes and boots that I still have to sort through are fairly new so someone will be very happy with my cast-offs. No point in wearing shoes that make your toes go numb or literally rub you the wrong way! It's so liberating to open my closet and see only clothes that fit me well and, most of all, make me happy! :)

Yay! Congratulations. And yes I agree it's so liberating right?

Great tips. About your advise of taking pictures of different outfits, there is a great application called smart closet. You can insert pictures of different clothes and begin to combine them together. If you like the outfit you save it. It is really helpful when I go shopping. So I can decide whether the new piece will go with my closet or not

Oh yes thanks for reminding me - I have used this one before but need to get back on to it 👍🏻

Great video. I use an iPhone app called Stylebook. It works great for me. I don't have to take a photo of my outfits when I'm wearing them because I can put them together in the app and save them.

Cause I own a rainbow in my closet! Lol! I keep meaning to buy single neutral colors but that’s not me I have very few of those I like colors! 😂 I need to purchase a few good quality t-shirts that I can wear/match with most skirts, jeans, any pants. I’m a 5’3 fit petite also love wearing booties here in S. California they do look cute with many things and helps a short girl growth a few inches. Love fashion, makeup and running/gardening/walking on hills to stay fit and happy. 🤩 Need to keep in mind to buy a few neutral tops just a few I have tons of stuff to wear I do like and recently cleaned my closet if old out of style stuff and items I no longer wish to wear. Feels great!
@Thestyleinsider.5 жыл бұрын
Yes for a lot of people the neutral (basic) pieces are the most boring to buy but often help to tie all of your colourful pieces together so they are fairly essential :)

there's great advice even in the first 3 minutes. I must admit, that I tend to shop for "outfits" not pieces. lol, but I started taking pics of myself daily in the past year or two AND I had some financial goals so I told myself to "shop in my closet" and it has helped spark a little more clothing creativity.

I️ bought it a few months ago and it really helps me come up w outfits and get out of my outfit rut! Really great intel, I have been using google images for years- the absolute best way to get ideas and then peruse the closet for similar looks. I have also found the footwear is extremely underrated - sometimes it’s the footwear that totally closes the sale! Lastly to your point...Michael Kors has said that we don’t have anything to wear because we don’t have a 80-20 ratio = 80% basics and 20% percent whimsy..., he may be on to something!
@Thestyleinsider.6 жыл бұрын
Yep I definitely agree with the 80-20 ratio - it's too easy to by the "whimsy" and not have enough basics to make them work. Thanks for sharing :)

Thnx dear for ur helpful video...Honestly i hv been followin ur pieces of advice already such as googlin whether to see the mix and match of fabrics or colors etc..beside takin pics of daily/special occasion outfits that i feel comfortable with ...also as it s already mentioned in the vid time is important when u select items to wear..just think about it when u are in a rush u just pick the nearest pieces ,get into them n go ,that s why u find urself in the same outfits circle. Wanna just add my own tip print out 'color wheel' and stick it where u can see everyday ..believe me ull find some mix and match u ve ever thought about ❤

Because you have no basics that’s why basics can be mixed and matched with numerous tops shoes scarves accessories jewelry to create our own look. Invest in basics.’id love to give a shout out to the Aussie “madamoiselle” her channel has inspired me towards sleek elegant basics. May not be everyone’s style but it is mine. I sometimes feel too old to do anything. Being retired I need comfy Clothes loafers black leggings, white blouses blazers cashmere sweaters that’s me. Best place to get in mood for inspiration Is just to get out go have a coffee people watch thank you so much!

I think I’m older than you are and I have some beautiful pieces like cashmere jackets or silk dresses that still fit , still look nice but are out of style do you hold onto those pieces or move on
@susanholl59946 жыл бұрын
Can't imagine any quality cashmere or silk being so out of style that they are unworkable. These are true investment pieces. Trying modernizing them by pairing them with modern items to freshen them up. Try cashmere jacket with modern jeans and trendy shoes. Or silk dress with a moto jacket and booties. Vintage is hot now, as is mixing dressy and casual.

I have ADHD and find her talk refreshing. Listen to her advice. Showing pictures defeats what she is saying. Every one's closet is different and that is some part of her conversation. Just to note I am a visual learner and somehow she kept my attention.
