Congratulations! John on the new NOVA. She sure is a beauty. Excellent review of the lathe and a very nice roughing of the Monkey Pod. I can't wait to see it finished.

Thanks Stephen, it a great lathe so it was a fun review. You'll see the finished bowl in about 8 to 10 weeks.

Great video John and impressive lathe. I may come and visit the Nova office in St Pete when I get ready to buy. I went to flight school at the St Pete airport and got my commercial pilots license when I came back from Vietnam.

We are about 30 minutes from their place in St. Pete. Tara Huff is their PR person to contact. It is a great lathe. Hope to see you then.

Great machine and mods!

Thanks - the mods are just more comfortable. Not that the nova is any different than other standard grips.

Hey John great video. I was curious as to where you got the membrane speed controller at? Thanks for sharing. I would like to see more videos of your tool making. Thanks
@JohnWilliams-oq5nm4 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure what you mean. The speed controller is standard Nova and comes with the lathe. Hope this answers your question.

I have a DVR XP & agree with all your comments. If I had my druthers I would prefer "knobs" versus the membrane panel controls but overall it's one sweet lathe ...

When I was down at Nova they were working on a knob and had a mock up!

+John Williams Good news. I'll keep fingers crossed that it morphs into an 'enhancement' kit for the XP. Thanks ....

John -- Very interesting ... thanks for posting. When did you get your lathe? I got my Nova DVR 2024 in May. It shipped without the remote, so I contacted them (Jon Ford) and was told the remote was 'out of production'. Their website still says the remote is standard equipment. Other than the missing remote, I have been pretty happy with the lathe. My only other beef is the fixed handle on the tail stock ram ... I like your solution!

+Gerald Jensen Thanks for watching and commenting. I got mine just about 6 weeks ago. It was a used demo lathe and did not have a remote. They took the one off of my 1624 and installed it on the 2024. I was told that they were out of production as well. They seem to still be available "on line". Here is a link to one at Woodcraft : www.woodcraft.com/product/853548/nova-55519-dvr-wireless-remote-retro-fit-kit.aspx . There are some internal things that need to happen and there is someone there who can help with that. Tara Huff is the PR/sales type person and can help direct you. I have met Jon Ford as well and a nice guy. Fortunately I am located in Tampa close to their St. Petersburg HQ. Where are you?
@GeraldJensen9 жыл бұрын
+John Williams I'm in Green Bay, WI ... not quite as close as you! My lathe is 'Remote Enabled', so the retro-fit kit that Woodcraft has probably wouldn't be necessary for me. Nova has introduced a new lathe (Galaxi 1624) that also features the wireless remote, so they must be putting them back into production at some point. I'll be in touch with Jon and Tara. Thanks for getting back to me!

+Gerald Jensen I saw the Galixy. The power head is very similar or the same as the XP. The bed is the big change. It is much more massive close to the Powermatic.
@GeraldJensen9 жыл бұрын
+John Williams Curious that they would go with a 16" swing and 1.75hp (120vac) motor. With the platform they put the Galaxi on, I would think it would be perfect candidate for a bigger motor and greater spindle-to-bed distance. I put a swing-away extension bed on my 2024 and added 140 lbs of sand to a shelf between the legs ... that got the weight up to around 540 lbs ... lumberjocks.com/projects/164538
@JohnWilliams-oq5nm9 жыл бұрын
+Gerald Jensen I agree - we will see where it ends up. I did a similar "sand box" mod to my 1624. Added about 200 lbs. will do the same to this one. In the Lumberjocks post. The weight was added higher . That is good as I was told that the closer to the axis center line the better.
