Here's my first ambient soundscape on strymon BigSky reverb pedal and Novation Supernova 2 synthesizer: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKHUnZqOrdhplZY Titled "And The Angels Cried", it's an emotional, slowly evolving ambient space music piece. The Novation Supernova II provides the melodies, while the Strymon BigSky provides the atmosphere. Enjoy the video montage -- I hope the music and visuals take you on a journey within, and beyond. #strymon #bigsky #reverb #pedal #novation #supernova #supernova2 #synth #snthesizer #synthesizers #ambient #chillout #drone #soundscape #music #relax #relaxing #meditation #space #spacemusic

I have a big sky and the supernova 2 rack so this simple but heart meltingly beautiful music has inspired me to experiment. Whether I could match this is another matter!? This was one of the last things I listened to in hospital before a triple heart bypass op in 2015 & could have been part of my epitaph but as you see I survived it!

Ahh wow this is really nice.................starts so lovely..........Supernova's are awesome looking synths if you ask me....very futuristic design. It's a shame Novation don't make another one. Blimey those BigSky's aren't cheap are they.....they do sound the business though!
@snuppssynthchannel6 жыл бұрын
One of the greatest Virtual analogs, not that the Novation synths are the best at emulating the classics, but they sounds stellar in their own right!
@synth4ever6 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed, they have their own character for sure. Great virtual analogs.

Cool soundscape man. It's always a joy to listen to your fiddlings. Also nice to see the BigSky used on a synth. Been eyeballing the BigSky for a while now, but I only found videos where the effect was on a guitar. Makes me want it more ;).

Thank you :) Big Sky is an amazing reverb, it really helps inspire new ambient compositional possibilities. Major props to you guys for creating this fantastic unit -- I am seriously blown away, this ambient piece wouldn't have been possible without it. (Out of curiosity... do you ever feature user's compositions w/ your gear on the Strymon YT, FB or Twitter feeds? :) ... just wondering (and would be forever grateful if so) :) Thx again.
@strymon9 жыл бұрын
synth4ever Thanks :D Love hearing that. We do feature user's songs in our blogs and on our social media. We are constantly listening to all the online goodies and we flag things that we'd like to feature. I can't promise a feature, but will definitely be listening and considering, so please make sure to continue to tag us, so we don't miss something :D

As beautiful as your landscapes with the 12 voices Poly Evolver. Could you compare the PEK with the Supernova 2? What is your favorite?
@synth4ever9 жыл бұрын
frjv78 They are different synths -- Poly Evolver is digital/analog hybrid (analog osc + digital wavetable osc + analog filter), SN2 is strictly digital (no analog components or wavetables). Both have their pros and cons, I'd say the Poly Evolver has a very unique sound I haven't heard from many other types of synths, but the SN2 is really geared towards live performance/multiple effects etc. That said I like them both :)

How do you hook this up to record it in Stereo?
@synth4ever7 жыл бұрын
1/4" stereo L/R cables from synth output to pedal L/R input, then stereo out from pedal to stereo in on computer audio interface.
@factckzone75336 жыл бұрын
The Ultranova has built-in effects too. But maybe the Strymon will be an upgrade?

I am wondering how to hook up pedals to my synth? Cant find much on the web, and it looks like its a little more complicated then with a guitar (seeing all the cables that are being used) I have a minilogue and a focusrite 2i4.. would be much appreciated!
@synth4ever7 жыл бұрын
It's pretty simple really... audio out from synth into pedal input, then output from pedal into next pedal's input (if you have more than one pedal), then output from pedal into audio mixer or USB recording audio interface.
@CB-nd9ki6 жыл бұрын
got a hardware question. Ultranova Synth, Novation Circuit, and a reverb pedal. I am painfully trying to figure out how to get my 2 devices to play simultaneously. I have them now setup as an aggregate device on my Mac and it works, ok , but, there are clipping issues. Do I need to just get some kind of mixer or 4 input audiohub to make Ableton see these devices seperately? In ableton you can only select 1 input device. I understand how you are doing it in this video but, cannot comprehend how to get both going.
@synth4ever6 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris, I don't use Ableton so can't help you there. I would think if one device is the master clock, or the DAW is master clock, it should sync the other devices. If audio is clipping make sure the output levels (volume) is not to hot from the devices. Otherwise you could try a mixer to control each source's level independently before going into DAW and see if that makes a difference. Cheers

Beautiful video. One question here... I despise software/controllers and prefer hardware synths. Any advice on a budget synth that is catered for "ambient/space" kind of music ? Thanks !
@synth4ever7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Well if you are looking at digital synths then Supernova 2, Novation KS4/5, or Waldorf Q rack... also Korg DW-8000 or Alpha Juno (analog). Depends what your budget is.
@exionem7 жыл бұрын
Spot on, although these are really hard to find where I live. Any new product similar to this ? I tried the mininova but those small keys are too uncomfortable to play.
@synth4ever7 жыл бұрын
If older synths are hard to find locally on Craigslist, there's always eBay. :) In terms of new gear, I would look at the new Behringer DEEPMIND12 (analog) or Roland System 8. They should be more than capable. DeepMind 12 is particularly interesting since it has some great FX onboard, if you don't have outboard gear. What is your budget?
@5meo7 жыл бұрын
slight hijack here, but have you tried the deepmind yourself? curious to hear your thoughts as your taste in synths and sounds appears to be similar to my own, based on what i hear in your videos :) i've always liked the supernova but never managed to get my hands on one. i have a KS, which has never quite satisfied me in the same way.
@synth4ever7 жыл бұрын
Hi, no I haven't tried the DM12 myself yet... hopefully will get a chance at some point. As for KS series, I did enjoy the KS5 when I had it... nice liquid filter, and decently flexible at a good price. Keep your eyes peeled for an SN2. :)

I respectively disagree, the knobs are what allow users to shape the sounds to their musical needs. :)

Not at 67. I just want to play not fiddle about and get so lost, I don't know my ass from a hole in the ground.

Ah... perhaps a standard piano keyboard with presets vs a synth would be more appealing then.... less knobs to tweak.

Used to be times when I loved playing with sound, I cut my midi teeth on Roland D50 and JX8P..The Kersweil 500 I think it was and Hammond organs and Technics KN 2000. Just too old now to be bothered, but i do like to push buttons and things, just like to know what effect or sound i,m going to get. Got my eye on the Yamaha ps770 and Korg 700 I Have a KR 2000 but replaced it with a Roland FP90 Amazing instrument. Oh and I have a 76 note WK 210 Casio ITs fun.
@factckzone75336 жыл бұрын
Cool! I'm 69 and retired for 11 years. I don't know my ass from a hole in the ground either but I do have a passion for keyboards with lots of knobs, buttons and faders! My old synths were gathering dust in storage so last Spring I took out my Korg Triton and Accent Virus KB and started playing. The Triton has limited knobs but a large touch screen for menu diving. The Virus has a small screen with lots and lots of knobs. What keyboard did I use the most? The Virus. Yup, those knobs were a pain in the arse at first but then I couldn't stop tweaking them. Long story short, I sold both synths and bought a DeepMind12 and a Monologue in August. Still lots of knobs, but I couldn't be happier! Doctors say that if you want to keep your brain young it needs new challenges. If the task is too easy the brain isn't getting a proper workout! My brain must be getting a good workout 'cause it's a lot easier to tell which is the hole in the ground and which is...you get the point! Good luck and happy playing!
