Cool to see Persson Sound on your side of the pond. They recorded very close to where I live. I recently got the LP "Sov Gott Rose-Marie" that they did under the name International Harvester. They later became the more famous Träd, Gräs Och Stenar (Trees, Grass and Stones). Classic Swedish underground music. Cheers!

@3:00... OK this 20secs might be the best musical description I've ever heard. lol. I'm going to try to remember that and use it. Incredible if that simply rolled off the tongue like that. lol... Clearly what you're smoking is alot more potent than what I'm using. Haha

The Joe Bauer looks interesting. Weren’t Game Theory similar to the Paisley Underground thing going on in LA.

Yes I forgot to mention they were in the center of that particular scene.

I am indeed a big fan of that Parson Sound. The quality doesn't bother me and so incredible that stuff was as early as it was. I've known about the Dom lp for obvious reasons but I am stupidly waiting for an opportunity on an original. Probably won't happen and should just get this. I love where this one goes. Amazing record. The Joe Bauer looks interesting too. You continue to be in a league of your own when it comes to finding these major label obscurities.

😂 I’m all alone in that major label one-off club. I had a few OG heavy hitters hit the shop once again just yesterday. Can’t wait to share ‘em by the end of the year.

On the back of their hit with 'Get Together', Warner Brothers generously (if misguidedly) gave the Youngloods their own label, Raccoon, and they sure made the best of the opportunity to record and release some wilfully uncommercial albums by the band and their friends! As you say, there are two by Michael Hurley, and two by Jeffrey Cain, For You and Whispering Thunder, both of which are lovely rural Marin County singer-songwriter gems, and not expensive. There are other Raccoon treasures to pursue: Jesse Colin Young's first solo shot is a sweet record, and there's a terrific jazz-improv piano album by the mysterious Kenny Gill. There are two excellent hippie bluegrass albums by High Country, and Banana put a fun band together and released Mid-Mountain Ranch by Banana & The Bunch. Most extreme Raccoon LP is the notorious Crab Tunes Noggins, which is a collection of completely spontaneous free-improv pieces with Bauer, Banana, Gill, and Bill Mitchell on board, which makes Moonset sound positively melodious and conventional ... it's either a joyously outrageous hippie response to Warner Brothers' misguided generosity, or possibly the most unlistenable major-label album of all time, depending on your mood. Either way, it's guaranteed to clear a room in two minutes flat. Banana says he's never listened to it since they recorded it in his studio in 1972! Love it! There's a good case to be made for collecting everything on Raccoon - the Hurley albums are expensive these days, especially if the cartoon booklets are intact, but otherwise they won't break the bank. I cherish the scenario of the Warners execs holding their weekly meeting, listening to Crab Tunes Noggins, cradling their heads in their hands, and murmuring 'Dear God, what have we done?' Exquisite!

Kind of a fun offer from Warner. It comes across as just throwing ideas out there whether they stick or not. Yes, Banana & The Bunch was the one I was trying to remember. I like some of Hurley’s work, but ultimately have passed them along.

@@PsycheDerek. Yep, I'm with you on Hurley ... he has a rabid cult following, but he's an acquired taste, for sure. Josh Rosenthal devotes a whole chapter to the Raccoon saga in his excellent book The Record Store of The Mind, which is an essential read for us vinyl junkies. Hope you take the plunge and acquire Crab Tunes Noggins, Derek - it's a uniquely brave thing!

Just found a NM stock copy of Ragnarok, "Electronic Funk" on Limelight Records at our local co-op for $20! Are you familiar with this electronica classic? ...That Joe Bauer LP sounds cool - need to find that one - as well as that Dom LP!
@PsycheDerek.Ай бұрын
Not familiar with that Limelight title, but they are always interesting. Don Robertson is the next one I’m curious about picking up.

Hi Derek Are you familiar with Freakbeat or Galactic Zoo Dossier magazines?
@PsycheDerek.Ай бұрын
I am familiar with Steve's work concerning the Galactic Zoo magazine. But I'm not much for reading mags or books. I do a lot of my own research through the web.

Very cool stuff. I’m going to look into a few of these. You wouldn’t happen to know if "Are You Samson" by Samson is ever going to get a reissue, would you? Has anyone heard anything? It’s been oop for over fifty years. I’ve been debating dropping the $$$ but if a new one is coming along I’ll wait.
@PsycheDerek.Ай бұрын
It’s very possible to see a reissue of that one in this decade. I am familiar with that one, but we shall see.
