Foster, Elliot and myself head back out to Hydro for my third attempt this year at completing Hydrophobia. After two failed attempts I was hungry to finally finish it. Poor Elliot wasn't sure what he agreed to, but nonetheless, he gave it everything he had. Solid day and great meeting a few other phenomenal climbers that were there.

Excellent! Your videos really kept my stoke up for ice climbing this winter despite the intense cold, rain storms, Covid illness, work and family responsibilities. Plenty of reasons not to climb, but I kept getting out. Deep thanks bro.

I had so much empathy for him until he yelled he's done it twice 😂 Wanted to say, awesome job doing the buddy check at the beginning, and even awesomer job leaving it in the video. That's the first time I've seen someone leave it in and I think it needs to be normalized in all climbing videos. That said, please don't stand below the icicle at the bottom of the first pitch. I'd like to keep watching your videos 😅

Is the waiparous approach the way to go over coming from the N ghost past the Sorcerer? And I assume this was recent? Thanks!

Dude 10000% it's way better than the North Ghost. Easier driving and (IMO) better walking. It's a bit longer of an approach but it's all flat.

I always believe you are supposed to keep your braking hand on the belay rope. Or is there a device which allows you to take your hands away safely?
@amiller0185
@amiller0185 7 ай бұрын
The ATC is in guide mode, the orientation allows for the climber side of the rope to pinch down on the brake side to auto-block.

@@amiller0185That’s not what was asked. 11:10 I think both hands are off the ropes, even in guide mode you should always have one hand holding the dead rope, it’s basic climbing 101
@jumper5971
@jumper5971 5 ай бұрын
yes you should, also never rely on 'guide mode' it will slip and can fail, particularly with these thinner diameter ropes@@samuelscarisbrick6189the only reason to not have a hand on brake strand is if you are using an autoblocking technique WITH a prossek

I’m very confused by your belay technique. Constantly letting go of the break strand.

I usually don’t comment videos but this time I felt compelled to. Sincerely, the worst belay technique I ever seen in almost 4 decades of climbing. Boisterous and laughing at climbing partners having a hard time. Top ridiculous video, definitely more attitude than skill.

Did you just leave your partner at the belay 1 pitch of the ground waiting for you to climb another 3 pitches and abseil down to pick him up?😶😶 I don't even want to think about the outcome in case something happened to you two while climbing... If you were only 1 pitch of the ground... wouldn't have made more sense to just lower him down to the ground where he could seek shelter and wait for you in a more comfortable place? Considering how he fought to climb it UP I wouldn't count on him to downclimb it ! Anyway, great video, as usual!

Lol you're not wrong....we were two pitches off the ground and there was two parties so I figured it was relatively okay. What would you do?

@@canadianboyz5520 They're referring to a friction hitch backup when you're rapping, means you wont slide down the ropes if you let go for any reason. 👍

Usually a prussik / machard taking both ropes under the belay device (free rope), so it auto-locks in case you fall. It’s paramount, please do it!
