Gracie was homeless, pregnant, and scheduled to euthanized. After a couple months at Vet Ranch, all of her problems were solved. :)

lordSeaworth Not all in certain situations they won't but many cases if the male feels threatened by the puppies for example overpowering the father's rank or if he doesn't know he is the father they will attack the puppies though again if the male has less or no status then the female, the pups aren't sick, and if he knows he is father he will not attack, but even if the male is friendly shouldn't let him roam by the puppies as he still may accidentally hurt them, I have had many experience with dogs and cats as well as the much research I have done with them ever since I was 6 years old with includes breeds, vaccination (which you should never over vaccinate), natural treatments on diseases, the dangers on certain dog food and treats companies, fixing dogs and how in breeds like golden retrievers you should never fix the males but if having to fix the atleast when they turn 2 no younger and there is this doctor who created a surgery which actually makes female dogs live longer, I can go on forever but I know I will never stop talking so.... welp

It's very sad, and it's good to know people can help these dogs out! But there's an important reason that this is done. Is the puppies were born, most of them would die because pups (especially from strays) could have unknown illnesses, not to mention some shelters don't have that space. There's just a lot of health risks that come with puppies, and sometimes it's more cruel to let them start to exist then to not.

well yeah I suppose it mainly depends on trust like my dog was completely chill with me and mom helping her take care of her babies from day 1 but not so with my sister with who she never had a close attachment to.I also think it generally depends on how aggressive the dog is like I have a calm and friendly lab/golden retriever mix but a more aggressive breed dog could be fiercely protective of her puppies even if she trust you.
