NOX SYSTEM status - AFTER 1 YEAR - BMW E91 engine N43
#NoxSystem # #NoxSensor #ExhaustLeak #30EA #2AF9 #BMWE90 #BMWN43
00:00 Intro
- The car has been working fine for about a year now!
- The statutory annual inspection must be done on the car this month
- Before that, let's see what the situation is right now!
- What is the situation with the NOX system?
00:14 Found NOX sensor fault or Exhaust pipe leak?!
- 2AF9 nox sensor, nox signal: coast mode check
- Let's take a closer look at the fault code with ISTA-D and INPA
- Diagnose BMW MSD80 DME with INPA software
- Read the error code history from 277696km to 285125km
- Delete history of error codes
- Let's take a closer look at the initial adaptation values
- Offset type adaptations are ok within -0.99 .. +0.99 mg/stk range
(for N43) and different from 0.00
- Check the desulfurization level of the NOX system ( Shift + F3 )
- Desulfurization level is ok at the moment ( 391mg )
- Injectors menu... ( Shift + F6 )
- Learnbits are ok
- Chemical efficiency tests of injectors in Homogeneous mode
- The differences in the measurements are fine!
- Injectors stratified charge -menu...
- The Stratified charge -values are ok in idle and partial load!
04:35 Test run with INPA monitoring
- Let’s take a closer look at the fuel mixture menu
while the car is running
- Injectors mechanical efficiency and flow rate are ok
- Lambda probes are heated (This N43 motor has 3 lambda probes)
- Stratified charge mode works
- NOX sensor -menu... ( Shift + F2 )
- NOX sensor goes to online and starts report lambda values
- Trimming of Lambda probes starts
- After this, the stratified charge mode should start working!
- Unknown fault location: P127A NOx Sensor Signal (Bank 1)
- For this reason, the Stratified charge mode does not turn on!
- Fault code 2AF9
- That potential exhaust leak needs to be investigated further
- Delete fault codes and let see if stratified charge -mode goes on...
- No fault codes at the moment...
11:28 Clean NOX sensor
- I can't find any leaks in the exhaust?!
- Maybe the NOX sensor still needs to be checked and cleaned!
- The NOX sensor would seem to be just fine visually
13:16 Test run after cleaning NOX sensor
- One more test run and see if any fault codes appear
- Stratified charge mode works when there is no fault code
associated with the NOX system!
- Poisoning level of NOX catalytic converter on 423mg
- Two weeks later! Let's check the error codes again!
- Same error code again: Exhaust leak fault 2C7F! As well as 30EA!
14:45 Perform a forced burning run for NOX catalytic converter with INPA
- The temperature must be above 580 degrees
for the burning run to begin and the lambda to change to 0.96!
- No error codes! Let's see how it goes in the annual inspection ...
Let’s continue with the next episode! Stay tuned!

My purpose is to encourage people to do things themselves!
Plus, this is a nice hobby for myself and at the same time I have the opportunity to save a lot of money by doing all the maintenance myself!
I’m not a professional with cars or motorcycles, I just want to learn how to do things myself.
If you do this service yourself, always check the correct instructions in the official service manuals. This is just my way of doing it!

Been watching your videos - I wonder how much fuel ⛽️ you’ve used testing and going through the adaption. Nice work.

Does the desulphurisation automatically take place when you drive it faster than 110 km/h (68 mph) on a journey longer than 30 minutes or do you have to force desulphurisation through INPA/ISTA-D? Thanks.

I dont have any place to drive minimum 110 km/h. can I try cleaning procedure at lower speed. ?

Leak in the exhaust system could be your flexi pipes, very common, hook a smoke machine up to the exhaust pipe, easiest way to spot small leaks 👍👍

In fact, I replaced that flex pipe with a new one in 2019, when it had a leak. I think the problem is once again related to the NOX sensor, but it still needs to be investigated with like smoke machine... 👍

Itsellä on suunnitelmissa ohjelmoittaa nox järjestelmä kokonaan pois käytöstä.

Hello, i have the same n43 engine. First I has the P122E default and i change the sensor (same as the video) but after a few km/miles I have two other default : P114D and P2272. Can you help me to solve my problem if you can ? Sorry for my English I am French

I can't imagine to owning that car if I would be only a user driver. This video is nice example, that BMW has a very specific and difficulty technique. Thanks for your video and motivation to create this! Btw. I am thinking about say bye bye and look for E91 LCI 325d M57. For engine N43 price of new OEM injectors today cost 415€, in 2018 i bought a new OEM at the dealer with price 162€/pc. On the other hand, I have a NOXEM-130 from Bimmerprofs and works well for 3 years. Last summer appears some fault code as same as yours - lambda coast-mode check. I solved it, after a few mails with bimmerprofs, by a new lambda probe on NOXEM and now works as well. So, NOXEM is better solution, but lambda probes can damage too. Fortunatelly there is more simple to repair it. What about measuring of NOX emissions of your country at the technical/emissions inspection station?

If I had fixed all this stuff in a car repair shop, it would have become really expensive !! Hobby mind here has been some sense 😉. So I would almost say that this engine requires a bit of hobby! I can't say exactly about that emission measurement at the inspection station, but luckily it passed. 👍

Yes, you told it exactly..this engine is a hobby 😁 this winter i am planning to swap my 318i 105kw to 125kw like 320i. I will need to change a intake manifold with integrated swirl flaps and motor actuator (cable is there but only blinded connector) change catalytic converter and add 1 oxygen sensor - there is a little bit problem, i dont know yet where i have to pin the wires into DME and reflash DME software for 320i. Maybe I make some video too. Actually, if I found the source of rattling what I asked you in another video

your flex pipes are destroyed partially, they shouldnt look like that. check how new ones look, they have one more layer. Though, Im not sure that will fix your error. But, I would replace them. ah, im sorry seems like some models do like yours! so i dont know..

My car’s flex pipe looks just like this and doesn’t have to have a separate layer around it. They come in different models in different engine versions. 👍 It is like this: www.ebay.com/itm/223139584381

In your opinion is this a good engine to have on an E90 ?
@JaniVoutilainen
@JaniVoutilainen 2 жыл бұрын
The N43 engine is a good engine when it is in good condition! Powerful and low fuel consuming engine. But when it comes to problems, it has so many variables that affect many different things, etc ... like the NOX system. If you own the same engine (N43 or N53), you should keep it in good condition. The longer the fault is "on", the more challenging the fault repair will be. For example, leaking injectors destroy over time a really expensive NOX Catalytic Converter, etc ...

I have it in my E90 and while I haven’t had any major issues up to now (100k miles) I have spared no expense with maintenance. I wouldn’t recommend buying one now (in 2021) unless you know it’s been extremely well looked after.

@@wrongmark What have you done to keep it in maintenance? I bought one with a full BMW history - the previous owner kept it 100% serviced as and when required, fixing all issues that arose though BMW. It had its timing chain & guides, tensioner, sump gasket etc. all done by BMW before I got the car. I bought it in 2020 with about 45,000 miles on the clock and it has only done about 9000 miles since then.
