Hi, I think last learn bit for adaptations is related to probe heating, couple times start cold and leave on idle until warm up. It works for me anyway.

I just installed BMW standard tools so I can install and use ISTA+ to reset nox adaptations. However when I open INPA my n53 engine is not there, also no n43. Do you know if this would be a problem when using ISTA to reset adaptations? I have never used INPA or ISTA so I would really appreciate your answer.

Hello, I tried this last year with the same problem on my N43 318i. My experience is: you must replace deNOX cat (in Czech Republic by JMJ brand as aftermarket - ~260€, remove the whole exhaust pipes, cut off the old denox cat and re-weld the new one ) and than you can use your re-soldered NOX probe and it will works like with OEM parts. Because the storage of denox cat is damaged by years of storaging of soot. Soot is chemically acid and fatty. And this 2 things kills the precious metal in your old original denox cat. LAST CHANCE FOR RESCUE THE DENOX CAT IS: remove exhaust pipes, cut off the denox cat and flush him with kitchen detergent or flushing liquid for diesel DPF and pressure water, weld it back. *But you should to buy a NOXEM-130 and fix that nightmare forever. That's pretty cool and easy solution of this problem and generally you will save your money.* Cheers!

@@tlendiel Hello, I have noxem for a 3 years (maybe), works very well without any prolems. After 1 year the oxygen sensor (LSU 4.9) which is mounted in NOXEM module, stopped working, so i bought another one and improve it with add a connector (soldering on wires) for easily exchange in the future. I fully recommend to you. This oxygen sensors (lambda probes) are very sensible in that position in the exhaust (too far from the engine) because water condensation and that's main problem of sporadic damage. But new oxygen sensor cost 100$ once a 2 year. Have a nice day.

Moi! Thorsten from germany my mum´s from Finland ;-). So i have a sharan 2010 with dpf. I got the no start countdown because of Nox problem. Rest ist 750km. Today we made a new dpf in because the flextube was damaged and killed several Adblueline, whiles blasting on it till we found the problem. We tried several times the testcycle to clear the error but with no luck but also no error appearing. yes I delete before the nox sesnor error which appeared some weeks ago (and it was severel times before). So i thing it is the sensor right? So i have a unit from Mercedes brand new orign (the scond hand seller sended me a wrong unit i kept it because he didn´t had the vw unit anymore he was offering me first and price was o.k. for a new one). My questions : Can i take the probe from the Mercedes unit (also Continental 5 pin) an dweld the wires on the ecu of VW as you did ? Does someone know if i have to reset the adaption for VW too? And in general what about the protocols from the units are the maybee all the same , so what are the difrences between Merces/BMW/VW etc. Units? I have a 5 pin output Unit. My motor is 140 HP/ CFFB 2.0l ~1800000 km.

thank you for your videos, they are interesting and instructive. i have e81 116i 90kw with an n43b20 engine and 120,000km. from the 100.000 km periodically appear various errors for the nox sensor 2af2, 2af4, 2af6, 2af9 and sometimes errors for rich or poor mixture on the lambda probes. since winter errors 30c1 oil pressure and 29e0 fuel-air mixture are common. i talked to three mechanics and each said differently but they are all undefined. I decided to drive until it fell apart or stopped somewhere. all parameters are fine, except for the smoothness in the cylinders, which is sometimes over 200, and should be -200 to + 200. and the engine error light appears when a 29ce or 29cd combustion dropouts error is detected in the 2nd or 1st cylinder. probably accumulated carbon deposits on injectors, because it helps a lot when I put liqui moly injector cleaner. cold engine runs restlessly from the moment the revs drop to 800 and a few minutes. greetings and big hello from croatia!

@@JaniVoutilainen there is no solution. The N45 / N53 is an unrepairable engine. it is a most complicated bmw atmospheric engine and required the right care from 0 km. now it is late. conceptually and structurally it is an engine like on (super)sports cars, but they are not driven every day and cover 2-3,000 km a year. most of these engines after 100,000 km are "irreparably destroyed" with oil change intervals of 30,000. it is an overcomplicated engine for everyday use and maintenance carelessness when they are "young". on mine I can replace all expendable parts, and there is no guarantee that it will work properly. it can happen that there is a problem like yours, with the head and block gasket, or some of inbuilt errors in MSD80

Newer BMW’s are curious creations. When I bought my E91 it had a small exhaust leak in the flexi tube and a faulty pressure sensor on the high pressure rail. My last BMW was a E30, so it took some time and several hundred pages of technical data. Before I realized how much problems the software creates. I still run the original 2009 nox sensor. But I will be using Noxem when I change it. The amount of issues this engine can compound within operating margins is astounding. And your problem might not even be related to the sensor or the cat. It can be other systems compounding errors trying to adapt within operating margins. And nox can interpreter the changing values as errors. I programmed the speedometer on my E91 to show the actual speed. It was only about 4% correction. But it made the engine misfire and shake. The transmission didn’t shift properly. And the diagnostic generated 3-4 error codes on the nox system every 5-10 min. And a lot of error codes in other systems as well. I tried deleting them and re adapt the new values from a 4% speed correction. I managed to get rid of half of the errors. But I gave up and adjusted the speed setting back to stock. All the errors disappeared. And it started running just as it was supposed to.

What's more,the engine works in the HOMOGENEOUS mode ALL THE TIME. The oil consumption gets high again.I’m confusing about this problem can you give me some tint about this? Appreciate!

Seems that yours stratifield charge is not work if your consumption is not normal. Normally if there is fault codes related on nox system, it disable stratified charge. Check yours Nox catalytic sulfur status and make forced clean for nox catalytic converter if needed. Delete adaptations and re-learn those again. It takes some time when adaptations are Ok again. Hope you get it sorted out 👍

Hi @Jani Voutilainen and all fans of N43/N53, i have changed my Nox sensor on E90 325i with N53 at 1.8.2020. I bought aftermarket senzor by METZGER producer. Sensor cost me around 300€ including 21% VAT insted of 540€ by OEM. Due to covid situation and fact that E90 is my weekend car I have done only 4.000 km to this day. But stratified mode works well (y) I have checked a several times by diagnostic. Example of consumption: 125 km journey with avg 83km/h = 6. Trip back also 125, avg. 82 km/h = again 6. Another 130km trip from 200m to 1000m above sea level -> 8,3l/100. Trip back 6,5. On highway 130gps cruise control :) All has been on 100 octane gasoline.

Hi Jani, first of all a big thank you for these videos. They are, in combination with bimmerprofs.com, a must-have for any N43/N53 owner. I was wondering a couple of things: 1. Did you in the end (before rebuild) get all adaptations OK? And then only with new BMW sensor or also with your rebuilt third party sensor? 2. Were you able to drive those 250.000km with original NOx cat? If yes this gives me hope that I can continue to use the original NOx system for a while (N43 at 130.000) before “surrending” to NOXEM. 3. What is your trick to get the desulphation going well? I do get 30EA codes and I did a burn session but it was really hard to keep going, basically had to drive 140 in 5th gear to keep temp high enough.
@JaniVoutilainen
@JaniVoutilainen 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! 👍 1. I haven’t been following the adaptations for a while now, but there have been problems with one of its adaptations. The 30EA fault code is still present even though the NOX sensor has been replaced with a new as well as a rebuilt NOX sensor. The car works great otherwise, no jerking and no running disruptions. I got a little tired of this problem so I’m waiting for a little inspiration for it again. I thought about having to clean the NOX Catalytic Converter physically. 2. The original NOX Catalytic Converter is still in place which has now run 283 tkm. 3. Should be able to drive a bit like "Traction" on all the time. In fact, it is advisable to drive in 6 gears (with 5 gears it is harder to keep the heat) so that the heat in the NOX system remains high. If the heat tends to drop while driving, you can also apply the brake lightly from time to time while driving but keep the gas constant at all times.

@@JaniVoutilainen short update: even driving long distances at 130+ on our holiday to the south the 30EA kept reappearing. I got tired of worrying about this so I installed NOXEM last week. Re-adapting was a breeze. The engine now no longer sounds like a diesel and is much more smooth when driving off: sometimes our clutch was shuddering but that problem seems to be gone.
